I went into Earthbound thinking it was going to be sad and heartbreaking like Mother 3. Instead I got an ominous, creepy acid trip like I never experienced in my life with great atmosphere, story as well as nostalgia for a game I shouldn't have had almost instantly. Then you jump into Mother 3 and it's just generic anime melodrama with linear pathways. Mother 3 is overrated
>2026>juxtaposting
Earthbound crowd are the same kind of troons who would suck Toby Fox cock. Fuck that. Shit game with childish humor meant to be played by lonely faggots.
>>12691607>undertale out of nowhere
>>12691614He's not wrong tho.
>>12691621He is wrong. The fact undertale/homestuck fans also claim to like Mother doesn't equate to Mother fans being undertale fans, especially when Mother is retro and the other is not. They are not even similar games design-wise, Undertale is western made and has western sensibilities despite being inspired by Japanese games like Mother and Touhou
>>12691601Mother 3 survives on its superior presentation, but there's a reason fans seek out EB64 builds. Though we know by now that it's all but a rough draft of the GBA final, so I really think "Mother 2.5" would be a more worthwhile find - the version of Mother 3 that was on SNES-CD and halfway-finished before they decided to scrap it to chase 3D trends.
I guess I don't get what people see in this. I made it a few cities in, got bored, and quit playing
>>12691645You have a valid point.
>>12691661EarthBound? It doesn't get going until you get Jeff sadly, then the HP bar system really becomes a major focus and the battle system becomes a lot more interesting. Shame the early-game when you only have one party member is a slog.
i played earthbound as a kid. then emulated mother sometime in the early 2000s. i was anticipating the mother 3 translation and played it the day it finally came out. i found the game incredibly disappointing and have no desire to play it again. tonally off and trying to do too much with what should be a mostly whimsical story. it didnt work at all.
I suddenly no longer like Mother 3.
>>12691757calm down schizo
>>12691614Damn what a cool and big world I can't wait to explore it in the fan remake
>>12691648I thought I was an EB64 deep lore nerd, but either I forgot about the SNES CD Mother 3, or it was mentioned only once with no information. Do you remember where you heard that? Similarly obscure lore: Pokemon began development on SNES, which nobody talks about or knows. In both cases, could just be planning though without any programming.
>>12691661It's really hard to judge RPGs fairly without seeing them through.Trying to tell if an RPG is good or not from the first five hours is like trying to tell if a movie is good or not from the first five minutes.A lot of Earthbound's most iconic and memorable moments occur in the second half of the game, with the very ending being particularly lauded.
>>12692276Completely disagree, eartbound greatest moments are the first half, everything after fourside sucks except Giygas and Magicant
Why most of the Earthbound fags troon out?
>>12691757Yeah retards on this forum are way too negative about it. You really can't trust stunted 4chan lifers to judge any story-based creative work.
>>12692286Mother 3 makes fun of troonism doe?
>>12692304They are literally the good guys and the only one to reject his tranny side is the evil one
>>12691607I'm so god damn sick of Undertale being compared to Earthbound when they share basically nothing in common besides very, very vaguely same-y graphics.
>>12692170Here's a development timeline that incorporates newly-translated info from magazines and other stuff that was uncoveredsince Mother 3 released: https://tcrf.net/Prerelease:Mother_3The SNES-CD thing I don't believe was widely known about. No screenshots were ever shown. It's also likely it had the same overall premise as the 64/GBA versions.
>>12692306They are also not human
Earthbound fucking sucks
>>12692924stinks*
Never got the hype around Mother 3. I didn't find the story particularly sad, I guess because the game does a poor job of getting you emotionally invested in the story.>sad thing happens ):Is not impactful writing unless you care about the characters.Earthbound is a much more enjoyable game. Events that took place in that game genuinely felt a lot more meaningful and affecting.
>>12691601>Earthbound>an ominous, creepy acid tripYou didn't play it.
>>12693019
>>12693019No u
>>12691704>i played earthbound as a kid. then emulated mother sometime in the early 2000s. i was anticipating the mother 3 translation and played it the day it finally came out. i found the game incredibly disappointing and have no desire to play it again.Same for me. I think part of the problem was how the game handles the first few chapters. Repeatedly switching characters like that just left me feeling like there wasn't anything cohesive happening, and I didn't feel invested once I started playing as Lucas either expecting it to happen again.
I didn't want to play earthbound because it wasn't linear and I got lost within 30 seconds and had no clue where to go, will I have a good time with mother 3?
Mother 3 is good, and has more modern sensibilities, and might make you cry a little.>Mother 3 fans are usually ok but act like literature nerds sometimes. Hmm.Earthbound is excellent, has older design sensibilities, and thrives on cheesiness.>Earthbound fans are some of the most idiotic and autistic people I've seen. Hmm.EB0/Mother 1 is in many ways legendary, and a lot of things people think earthbound give credit for are already in this game. I wish more people played it. Fuck.>The fans are just normal people, as long as they aren't Earthbound fans who transitioned. Hmm.
>>12693693>a lot of things people think earthbound give credit for*a lot of things people gave earthbound credit forwoops
>>12693117yep i thought the whole chapters thing was a mistake and like you said the character switching and never feeling like you have a real party.
>>12691607No there's a zoomer subset of EarthBound fans who just adopted it as a pick-me accessory. They would be the type of fags that would also like Undertale because it's esoterically gay and not really understand anything about what makes EarthBound great in the first place
>>12691773the "fan" remake's world was scaled back drastically to appeal to zoomer sensibilities
>>12695645i am a zoomer new to retro gaming. have played neither earthbound or undertale. but i sense you are right about the gay esoterism of undertale. can you please elaborate more for me?
