Is spending hundreds on retro physical media some sort of coping mechanism or actually a based counter cultural move?
>>12692937You can essily emulate all this so it's dumb, at least buy something hard to emulate or archive
>>12692943Emulation on a flat TV without any hardware rituals is soulless and pathetic. I do not consider that retro.I would only do that for really expensive games like Rule of Rose.
>>12692937I'm speaking for me:It's about getting revenge on a childhood you feel cheated out of. Letting go of the resentment with every purchase. Sure, in an ideal world we'd all be bhuddist monks with iron willpower and 0 attachment but I'm just a normal dude so things make me happy (temporarily) and it's nice to have a bookcase with things to remind you of all the good times you had. So long as you actually play the games eventually, I don't think it's excessive. Once I felt like I'd spent enough time and money doing this I got it out of my system and calmed down. It does help, if you're self-aware enough to know what you're doing and why you're doing it.
>>12692948>crtUnderstandable but you can use just shaders>muh hardware ritualsDumbest shit ever, no one misses the annoying inconveniences of messing with wires, disc, cartridges, memory card, etc
>>12692953>Understandable but you can use just shadersThat's the same poorfaggot excuse as telling someone to use analog filters on their iPhone to simulate grain and imperfections. You know it doesn't look or feel the same and will never be.>Dumbest shit ever, no one misses the annoying inconveniences of messing with wires, disc, cartridges, memory card, etcFriction is very important actually and the lack of it is the reason why culture in the 2020s is non-existent.Keep letting streaming algorithms dictate your taste instantly from your smartphone.
>>12692937These people are gonna feel so dumb when the prices drop.
>>12692971>These people are gonna feel so dumb when the prices drop. They're only going to go up starting in 2028.
>>12692971The prices will stay high for the next 20~ years and then the discs will start rotting en masse and you'll see guys roping because there goes their retirement fund.
>>12692937You could say the same thing about any collecting hobby. People like to own shit that they enjoy. Sticking it to shitty companies that only want you to suck content out of their dicks with no other alternatives for access is a side benefit.
I do selectively collect PC big boxes because of thick manuals, posters, maps, keyboard layouts etc. But collecting plain cd(jewel)/dvd-editions is beyond me.
>>12692937gigacoping and addiction to getting a dopamine hit from buying stuffthere's no reason to buy this shit when you can emulate and upscale even on shit pc, kingdom hearts 2 looks great rendered in higher resolution
>>12692978Nailed it. These things will be worth ZERO once disc rot starts.
>>12692978>and then the discs will start rotting en masse and you'll see guys roping because there goes their retirement fund.Scratched up CDs from the 80s still function perfectly well and will outlive your children, assuming you're not an incel.
>>12693003Yes but they probably won't last 100 years.
>>12693013Sony executives said otherwise
>muh incel 4chinz really is just leddit now, huh
>>12692937The Jews must be really angry about this trend, we have threads up with you kvetching about it on multiple boards, new ones created as soon as the old ones fall off.Are you with Babel Media? Spit it out, OP.
>>12692978>>12693001Disc rot only affects burned discs. We've already been over this and you bots have already conceded defeat.
>>12693582>Disc rot only affects burned discsHow do you think factory discs have the data loaded onto them?
>>12693587A mother is made out of solid metal, which is used to cast glass daughters, which are then used to stamp the discs just like with vinyl. You can read all about it, clearly you didn't.Regardless, this isn't apropos to the topic - disc rot is a meme and only shills ever bring it up. It's a shill tell like 'migapede.'
>>12693590>A mother is made out of solid metal, which is used to cast glass daughters, which are then used to stamp the discs just like with vinyl. You can read all about it, clearly you didn't.You're right.I said something so obviously wrong and annoyingly stupid you felt compelled to educate me. And now I know more than I did before. Thank you.
>>12692937I know seething about it is a sign of being poor and jealous.
>>12692948why do zoomers give so much of a shit about molded plastic and cardboard produced in a jap factory 30 years ago
>>12693618It's because the new shit sucks ass, basically wokeness and DEI killed the golden goose.Seething about it and asking snide questions you already know the answer to isn't going to stop this. It just makes you look like a retarded shill. Make a point, don't just bemoan into the wind. Heck if you're bad enough at shilling people will just do the opposite, it's how Trump got elected three times. Now run along back to your chinkheld general and stump your throwaway garbage like a good shill.
>>12692937You are supposed to have acquired it upon release or near release 20 years ago and have held onto it till now. People who are acquiring 20 year old PS2 games for the first time in 2026 are posers.
Only justified if you're making a copy to share and preserve.
>>12693641>People who are acquiring 20 year old PS2 games for the first time in 2026 are posers. We weren't all spoiled rich kids, cunt.
>>12692937Funny how people will brow beat collector fags yet simultaneously gargle on Sony's or steams bollocks willingly handing over money to soulless corporate greed for a digital service they don't even own>>12693013You won't either, what's your point > entropy exists therefore all physical properties of the universe are purposeless This is your logic
>>12693623no i dont know the answer i stopped reading your post right there. no i dont know why everything being shit today is a compulsion to hoard price gouged plastic.
>>12692937There's nothing wrong with experiencing your hobby in a proper and soulful way. Collectors need to be kos, tho.
>>12693582Ok but what about when your house burns down?
>>12693894(cont'd) also you could die at any second, so your physical games will be useless.
>>12693001two more weeks
>>12692937I used to have lots of retro but now my collection has been thinned down to like 30% of what I had. Not even for the money, but just to get rid of the clutter. Ps2 in particular no longer needs discs to play games. The backlash to all digital ps6/xbox 5 is warranted, but more people need to be advocating for piracy
>>12694760I wish I had the willpower to cull my collection but I was raised by hoarders and I still get stuck in that mindset of needlessly wanting to collect things I know I don't need. I just spent about $500 about a month ago buying 2 N64 consoles and about 50 Japanese games only to realize they look and play like shit on original hardware and I can get a way better experience just emulating them on my PC. If I had any sense I would be selling my stuff now while the prices are high instead of just trying to acquire more. I really don't need the money though so it's hard to actually find the incentive
Buy movies, pirate games.
>>12693727You're the only person here who uses your specific terminology, why can't you mix it up a bit? Shilling is an art form, you have to learn it before the Jewkraine ceases to exist.>>12693894>>12693929You talk like a kike, are you kike-ish?
>>12692937You're missing Up Your Arsenal
>>12692937obviously some kind of cope with some underlying issues. There's a real argument to be made for original physical things from a gaming standpoint (you know the whole point of all of this) but a lot of this collecting stuff has very little to do with the act of gaming
>>12692937enriching scalpers is always dumb when softmods and piracy are an option
>>12692937I don't really care, as long as the game collection always remains small enough to be held in two hands (even if it's heavy and awkward). In the long run of course the world moves on to various forms of emulation, but for now I simply feel a little better when I put a real original cartridge in than I would if I loaded a file onto a flash thingy and stuck that in instead. This does lock me out of playing certain stupidly expensive games (except via emulation) and if that ever became a major obstacle I'd change my ways. But it hasn't yet and I think can't at this point, since I already have almost every old game I want, and most of the stupidly overpriced ones just aren't within my scope of interest (I don't care much about Pokémon for example).
>>12692937>Collecting games>Counter cultureWhat sort of dumb zoomer shit is that?
