Shmups were based when they were single-screen. Scrolling ruined the genre.
The background animation is technically scrolling an image on repeat.
Most single screen shmups are kinda boring to me tbqh. I do appreciate having to time shots and aim more I guess.What are the best ones? Galaga is obviously great.

>>12695390Of all the golden era arcade shmups, Xevious is by far the best. Galaga is too similar to Space Invaders. Xevious really pushed the Genre forward and still feels great to play today. Very underrated game nowadays.
Countless quarters and dozens of minutes wasting time at the bowling alley trying to get the extra shot abduction guy, getting him, and not really doing any better or getting on the high score screen. love galaga
