What's the verdict on OG XBOX? Xbox essentially shipped with a Pentium 3 733 MHz, 64MB DDR, a (slightly customized) Geforce 3, and an 8GB HDD for $299. A GeForce 3 was a pretty high-end card for 2001 too, a GeForce 2 and Directx 7 were really the standards still in 2001. Halo, Morrowind, Doom 3, Half-Life 2, San Andreas had pretty high system requirements for 2004 and most PCs ran it like shit so the Xbox version was really impressive for its time. Halo PC was downgraded to the level of the GeForce2 MX card, which is much less powerful than the graphics processor found in the Xbox.

The OG Xbox was ahead of its time by being the very first "console" to be a jailed PC-lite (this isn't a good thing, btw).I'm glad it failed and Microsoft's plans to monopolize people's living rooms fell apart. We sorta live in a good timeline in that sense, I guess. Things would be far worse today if the Xbox had become dominant.

>>12699540The Xbox GPU was actually superior in some ways to the GF3, having some capabilities that would only later find themselves in the GF4 line. What constrained it was it not having its own dedicated VRAM, instead having to draw from the 64 MB of main system RAM, which severely curtailed what it could do in terms of textures, resolution, and other things.

But also there's a lot of other such PCs you can buy (or build) in the mini-ITX form factor.If you're really bold, you can actually tear apart a Gamecube and mod the shell of it into a PC. I've seen videos on youtube where people have done this. It of course destroys the Gamecube though, so you should probably only consider doing that on a broken GC.

It was amazing for that purpose and still is somewhat, though it's mogged by the Wii since that has native 240p. Some of the original games were pretty alright but I was never into Halo or Fable.
