I want to like it but I think making a racing game around a JRPG gameplay loop isn't actually for racing game fans.

So, Gran Turismo Simulation Mode?
>>
>>12700142
Gran Turismo doesn't commit you to sitting through lots of story sequences and roaming an overworld looking for your next objective.
>>
>>12700142
No, nothing like GT Sim Mode you fucking retard

There is no need to be upset

Then don't make me upset and make higher quality posts.

How about a Car battler jrpg?
>>

i should play MetalMax but i'm slow on my backlog and i heard it's boring compared to normietoast fantasy JRPGs like Dragonquest.

Final Lap is the only racing RPG I've ever been aware of. Grew up with and had a love/hate relationship with it.
Neat that there are others

Where did you come from where did you go

Rage Racer, Ridge Racer Type 4 and Ridge Racer 5 have some very light RPG elements sprinkled on, and it's the perfect amount for a racing game, really.
>>
>>12699926
how much rpg is it? Lots of talking and town exploring? Car customization? Romance choices?
>>
>>12700282
For me it's Road Trip Adventure AKA ChoroQ HG2
>>
>>12702301
Basically, yeah.

There was never a need to put RPG memes in racing games when cars themselves already have a natural progression gateway in the form of currency and your literal skill as a player to handle whatever car you wind up with.
Even then, a "proper" racing game should always leave upgrading as a last resort compared to things like course knowledge, choosing your battles in locations that favor your vehicle (not really possible in games that force races on specific circuits under specific starting conditions, but is the cornerstone of Tokyo Xtreme Racer games), and other skill-based factors.

Those Japs are truly sick sometimes
Perversions of this magnitude...
>>
>>12700282
This is way better.

>she doesn't know that even if you lose against the racers you can grind against civilians to get competitive parts

I find the racing on this game quite addictive, and the RPG part takes the best from the medium at the time, the problem is the amount of grinding it has while at the same time, how small some windows for special events are. It's a game you need to replay a lot or take the time to save (a lot too, if playing on hardware). Also, it's not short of obtuse impossible-without-a-guide stuff.

Still love it tho, top 5 PS1 games for me, it has everything I could possibly want in a game

let me guess you lost all your car parts didn't you anon?
