Has this ever happened to you, /vr/os?
>>
Happened to me with Paper Mario
>>
>>12704674
No, sounds like once again you only played shitty games that suck ass
>>
I remember Crash Bandicoot having commercials where they mock Super Mario. Then Nintendo dropped Mario 64, which is basically the Dark Side of the Moon of video games. Where the fuck is Crash now? Fuck that game, and yeah, it did suck
>>
>>12704674
Sonic Adventure and Somic Adventure 2
Although to be fair, I remember they really annoyed me even as a kid and I never completed them
>>
>>12704690
huge disappointments. I bought a dreamcast, first console I bought with my own money not mom and dads. I expected a Mario 64-esque game but with Sonic, but they were total shit. Gay as talking with gay voices. Not even a real game, you have no control of the character it's just zoomer 'wow look at this' shit while he runs through loops and shit. Sonic's transition into 3D was the biggest flop of all time, and those games are universally hated for a good reason.
Oh, and you might think I'm just a hater but I was a Sega kid and that's not how I wanted things to turn out at all

What I usually find out is that I no longer have the skills or the reflexes to play them like I used to, and that is even worst.
>>
>>12704674
yes yes, you saw the new AVGN episode when he no longer thinks for himself but is Silverswine who projects his views and humor onto James whom the latter has no say on the matter.

why dont you get your own opinions?

No

Hugo games for the PS1. The best one is Frog Fighter even though you can beat the game in less than an hour.
>>
Kirby Superstar. Literally one of my favorite rentals growing up, but going back to it, its pacing kills me as it's literally made for kids.
>>
>>12704674
Hm... Yeah I feel cheated. Like I go back and it's like, this straight up feels like a kids game. I just... Didn't have good taste as a kid LMAO. I mean there are bangers I'll revisit. But once in a long while it's like, what was I thinking??
>>
>>12704842
Following up. Other times I'll be surprised. Like Whacked gets dumped on a lot, but shit I'm 35 now and love playing it still. By myself even. The animation style and the fast paced combat is perfection.
>>
>>12704836
Interesting. I've only discovered Kirby games recently and I find them really fucking fun.
>>
Mechassault 2 was ass when I revisited it a.few years ago....hadn't played it since it was huge on Xbox Live.

I think Robotech was more compelling. I wish they had done much more with that IP on Xbox.
>>
>>12704846
The worst DKC game (Tropical Freeze) brutally mogs the best Kirby games.
>>
>>12704836
I never liked Superstar even as a kid. Love the other Kirby games tho, still do.
>>
eh not really. like I might find some of them to basic to hold my attention but I wouldn't describe that as me being crestfallen or disgusted with the game. the thing I liked about them usually holds through, charm/novelty.
>>
>>12704674
Yep for GTA SA
>>
Tenchu 1 and 2 are kino but their controls are such extreme ass.
>>
>>12704956
I'm usually fine with tank controls but the turning radius in those games is ridiculously large.
>>
>>12704674
I wouldn't call it complete shit but for me it's Mario 64 DS.
>>
>>12704674
I don't think Earthbound is a bad game, I loved it as a kid, but when I tried to replay it as an adult I just couldn't get past the first town. It's a snoozefest.
>>
Lunar. Both the first and its sequel.
Was let down playing it a few years ago, the first time since the early 90s, by how linear it is, even for an RPG of its era. And Lunar 2? Literally blocks you in so you can't do anything but the next story event. Very, very let down.
Other than those, nope. Platformers and adventure and puzzle games are just as enjoyable more as then. Popful Mail is just as great now as it was then. Even Snatcher, which is barely anything more than a VN, is more enjoyable.
>>
>>12704674
Yes, every old game I've tried in the last week or so is fucking terrible and made me want to kill myself.

Still poggers, though.

GTA3 is the only good one
>>
>>12704674
Redneck Rampage. Granted, it wasn't exactly one of my favorites as a kid or anything, but it was disappointing to see that it just sucked and there was nothing good about it.

Tank controls stealth was a poor idea to begin with. The series peaked with Wrath of Heaven but even that game fell way behind the competition, then the rest of the series was a slow stagnation into nothingness.

Actual non-meme answer here. I never played the first one and I liked this one well enough, but upon replaying I quit after the first boss. Man times were truly different when we put up with way more jank than today.
>>
>>12704674
Most games released before 2010 aged like milk. There's nothing wrong with that and you can still enjoy them but this board seriously needs to accept it.
>>
>>12704674
Won't go as far as to say it sucks, but DK64 just ain't for me anymore. Maybe it wasn't the intention, but revisiting it, I often felt like it was made to waste your time, and for a kid with all the time in the world it's probably fine, and there's a ton to do and lots of books and crannies to explore, but the pacing just kills it for me.
>>
>>12704680
If you said TTYD I'd agree. The OG Paper Mario is still fantastic.
>>
Sly 2 and 3. Game is like doing chores with a story only children can care about
>>
>>12704674

I had this experience with Shadows of the Empire on N64. Sadtimes.
>>

It also happens in Blood.

>game you thought was good but grew up to realize sucked
Hmm I guess Crash Wrath of Cortex? Those load times on ps2 are actually criminal but I powered through because "It's Crash he says WOAH! AkuAku oobajamana! haha!" But uhh yeah I wouldn't go back and play the ps2 port the GC version is better less load times.

I love kirby as a character and the basic proto smash bros controls of super star, but something that has always bugged me is the level design. I can't entirety put my finger on it, but they usually just don't seem to match the type of game play that the mechanics want you to engage with. Restrained feeling i guess. I think maybe bigger Sonic like stages might fit your movements better.
>>
>>12705816
>Man times were truly different when we put up with way more jank than today.
The majority of games released now are just as, if not more janky.
>>
go back to xitter
>>
>>12706547
>GC version is better
HELL NO. The performance is complete garbage on GameCube: usually 30fps with regular dips to 20fps. Just see for yourself: https://youtu.be/LqPaq9x7qT4?t=1001

The load times were fixed in later revisions of the PS2 version anyway.

The sly triolgy as a whole are only games you can play when you are 12
People complain about 4 for I don't even know why desu its a perfectly fine platformer that sticks to the sly formula well enogh. It's like the smallest shit to nag about but refuse to play it when I think the real reason is that you just aren't a kid anymore and if sucker punch made it on the ps2 it would be looked back as just as fondly as the rest
Rachet and clank > jak > sly easily for ps2 mascot platformers especially deadlock I fucking love deadlock still to this day
>>
Nfs underground 1 or 2.
Midnight club 3 and burnout 3 are just way more fun arcade racers than nfs

nfs mw on ps2 had no 2 player and cops were specifically programmed to never show up in arcade mode races in all versions but this can be fixed on pc by editing a little number value... why? I don't get it for what purpose the game doesn't even explode if you fix it why would they do this? well anyways ps2 version sucks ass the superior 360 version my cousin had must've messed with my memory because holy fuck kid me got ripped off hard on ps2
>>
>>12706619
The PS2 port does have 2 players it says so on the box, see?

I did not play it as a kid but I had dreamed and fantasized about playing this game since I was a child and saw a gameplay clip of it on tv. I grew up thinking it was an amazing game that felt so magical and fun to play. I also wondered why it seemed so obscure and barely saw anyone ever talk about it.

After I downloaded Duckstation and finally decided to fulfill this childhood dream it didn't take long for my illusion to be shattered and for me to realize why it's obscure in the first place.

Great music, at least. Incredibly pleasant and atmospheric.

Well if we're doing games we hyped up in our minds, Zombie Revenge. I remember seeing the Penny Arcade comic and Gamespot screenshots and thinking how awesome it probably was

>Stiff and bad combat made even worse depending on which character you play
>Flat out just inferior and less fun than Die Hard Arcade, which came out several years earlier. Only game it's better than is Fighting Force, but that games a pile of shit anyway
>Original mode is single player only for some absolutely retarded reason

Battlefield 1942.
Back when it came out, I thought it was amazing how it was massive maps with tons of people and you could grab the nearest vehicle and drive, fly, or sail it around. Played the fuck out of the Wake Island demo, then a shit ton of matches on the Normandy Beach level. Thought it was one of the greatest multiplayer FPS games alongside UT1999 and America's Army 2.x. Still remember the time I was a part of an engineer group in the supply truck following three tanks around and repairing them after battles. Then I finally got a chance to play it again around 2017 or so.
It's so damn terrible. AI is beyond stupid, vehicles and weapons are poorly balanced to the point there's 2-3 of each that dominate everything and the rest are a waste of your time, you can hit targets with tank-fire that you can't see because the engine won't load them at that distance, and grenade spam is so OP that the 2-3 multiplayer servers that still exist will kick you for doing it. There's only a handful of classes, and Assault is already pointless since Medic gives you an automatic gun AND the medkit so you can heal yourself and allies, so Medics usually beat Assaults in 1:1 fights.
AA 2.x is dead, and UT1999 is mostly highly customized servers and one 24/7 Facing Worlds snipefest, but at least you can still have fun playing UT1999 in campaign or with bots on Adaptive Difficulty setting. BF1942 isn't fun to play with the players still playing, or with bots. It's just painful all around. Unfortunately, it's one of those multiplayer games that's only fun when the playerbase is a wide range of skill levels filling up the servers and causing chaos. Once the meta is known(bomb people from out of visible range with planes/tanks), it stopped being fun.

The first game is still a chill game. It’s piss easy as an adult but there’s little story and it’s straight to the point with gameplay unlike the sequels. So if you played it as a kid, there’s still enjoyment from it. I’d rate it a 7/10

I just put the game down because I wasn't enjoying it again, maybe I was just in a bad mood, will try one more time but I may agree with you anon. I still vastly prefer TTYD

>>12704690
I played both recently, Sonic Adventure 1 made so sad because it was so bad compared to when I previously played it as a kid. Didn't feel the same with 2 tho, I felt 2 was still awesome
