Did they ever perfect N64 on this thing?
>>12706951Yeah it was perfected over a year ago, Saturn and PSX too. It runs laps around software emulation
>>12706956That's pretty cool. I saw people showing off a disc drive thing and it made me want one a little bit
>>12706959Tru fax
>>12706957MiSTer is slightly more accurate than that, but the tech is basically the same. MiSTer also supports everything up to and including 5th gen
>>12706959How exactly is it snake oil? You can make the argument that it's not worth it for the price but it does what people are paying for it to do
>>12706951No but its pretty decent.>>12706956Is a liar. Saturn is good but definitely not perfect. Even with dual ram.
>>12706951It's not 100% cycle-accurate, currently it's believed that it's not possible on the current hardware (Specifically the DE-10 Nano), though just a few years ago people believed N64 and PSX were not possible at all on it yet the same person managed to do both within around 2 years. Granted, that same person is the one saying it's not possible to get it to 100%.That being said, it's on par with other accurate implementations like the Analogue 3D or ares. It's not a 1:1 comparison though, there are a few things ares is more accurate in and a few things that the MiSTer core is more accurate in over ares. Definitely far better than just about any other N64 emulator, especially older ones like Project64 that for some reason many people still use.>>12706957You're likely thinking of the SuperStation One, it's a MiSTer consolized in a PSOne-like case, it has an optional dock that adds a disk drive as well as several additional ports.>>12707035It's just a troll, ignore it.
>>12706957The disk drive doesn't work yet fyi.
>>12707035hOw ExAcTlY iS iT sNaKe OiL? *farts loudly*
>>12706951I love this little Nigga like you couldn't believedThe N64 pretty good better than most emulators but I rather use my real n64 with a summer cart>>12707035they're really cheap now got mine for 150+ shipping

>>12707112Open source project, retard
>>12706951no. wait for the m64 to be ironed out or for them to get off their asses and port mister to the de25
wait for M64

>>12707132>de25Wouldn't make much of a difference.
>>12707151He’s not trying to sell it. He wants to feel better about wasting money on it.
>>12707132I don't think the DE25 will get it to 100% either, memory access latency is one of the huge problems, a bigger FPGA isn't going to fix that, and the dedicated 1GB of DDR3 for the FPGA the DE25 has would not help either as while it has more bandwidth then the SDRAM, it has worse latency, and it's latency that's the problem.>>12707151That's like arguing that talking about software emulation means you are shilling for whoever made your CPU.>>12707156Sounds more like poorcope for not being able to afford something cheap
>>12706951It's not 1:1, but it is at the point where I sold my rgb modded n64 and flash cart and could say I don't feel or miss it.
Mister general??you guys ARE playing the new virtual boy core that as of yesterday is running full speed and you can play in COLOR with gameboy pallettes that add dimension to games while playing in 2D, right?(only works on DE-10 at the moment, not superstation)
>>12706951How did they fit an entire N64 in there?
>>12707360
>>12707360It's not ai jeet code is it? I'll try it out later if so
The M64 is built off the Mister core with the goal of using better hardware to be more accurate.
>>12707418No it wasn't made in a week out of nowhere if that's what you're asking, took a long time to get to this point of 1:1 playability I believe. the discord thread for it was made a few years ago and only the other day was it perfectly playable and has new color options and 3D glasses options.
>>12707435VirtualBoy_20260721.rbf
>>12707435Neat. Lately there have been lots of cheap or badly made "cores" using claude and other ai agents. This shit kills the point of "cycle accurate emulation"
>>12707441Yeah I cant say I've tried any of those. I kind of just wait for the core to be established and decent beforehand.Anyways when you try it later, you can find the gameboy pallet folder in the fat/games/gameboy/pallet directory IIRC. Might want to copy them to a new folder location that is easier to access. The core also just has an option for "multicolor" if you just want to test it without pallets, it will look like that wario game pic there colorwise. These pics were taken from Red-viper 3DS emulator on google images but it looks exactly the same on the mister core.
>>12707425Seems like all it really did was use the hardware to overclock it more. I don't think its more accurate but I haven't seen the tests, just the reviews.
>>12707217My phone costs $2,100 and my PC $3,200. “You’re poor!!!” is a retard argument.
>>12707516The only rebuttal you have because the device is pointless in every scenario otherwise.
>>12707523Get a job.
>>12707526Once again, your argument is completely empty because there is no way to prove anybody here has money or not. Present a real argument or go grow your foreskin back.

>>12707545It’s 5 in the afternoon. You either work a menial retail job or you have no argument.

>>12707598Still no argument in support of your retro game pog box.
>>12707604Still no argument in support of your consoom box.
>>12707605>Poorfag with no argument goes into broken record modeYeah, you're done. Let me guess, you will predictably respond with "Still no argument".
Is talking about anon's financial circumstances the new gay meta in this godforsaken board?
>>12707618And there we have it.The same tactic you guys use in every mister thread. Saying it out loud.
>>12707624If you never justify your awful purchase then it’s very justified to insist on a real response. Still no argument.
so what's the usecase for this thing? Unless there is a list of "secret" cores, every system listed on github can be emulated significantly faster on a pc.
>>12707651For me it's good emulation and 240p out to my crt. The wii is also good for that but struggles a lot more with 5th gen consoles and I have trouble getting some controllers to work with it.
>>12707651How much voltage do you need for that pc?How much space do you need for that pc?Mister only needs 5v 4a, usb-c cable to power.Mister takes up a very small space. slightly bigger footprint than a credit card length and width wise.Mister has a built in scaler, it also can do analog output.Mister every "emulator"/core is consolidated into one easy to use UI, not having to use shitty retroarch. That's not all, but the benefits are immense for some people/modders.>BUT it costs 400!!!I paid like 170 + tax for mine with all the extra shit.a switch costs more than that and it doesn't play even a fraction of the shit mister can.
Apple iigs core landed which is nice.

>>12707748Saturn is unplayable without runahead which fpga doesn't have
>>12707748Gonna need more tests.https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Saturn_MiSTer/issues/509
>>12707787Doesn't have it because it need it.
>>12707787MiSTer Saturn core has identical input lag to original hardware. Saturn is not inherently laggy, just that most saturn emulators have a shitload extra input lag
>>12707854> Saturn is not inherently laggyhe doesn't know
>>12707857I do know, Saturn on MiSTer is extremely responsive, just like a real Saturn on a CRT
>>12707862sigh, I'm talking to a wall here am Ifpga shitboxes have a particular target audience
>>12707787>runahead
>>12707651It has nothing to do with emulating "faster", the whole point is for accuracy and native output to analog as well as native support for original controllers without the added latency of USB adapters. Practically no software emulator can compete with the accuracy of many of it's cores such as Saturn or even NES believe it or not. It's practically the only way to use your original lightguns again without the original console. Many software emulators of more obscure systems it supports have also been nonexistant and/or long abandoned. People forget that it supports dozens of old computer systems, it was also the first to finally have DVC support in CD-I emulation, 3DO emulation without an ancient emulator from 2015, even recent advancements in Virtual Boy and of all things game.com. There are many cores not listed on the github.>>12707787You sound like you don't even understand what runahead is. The whole point of runahead is that it's a hackish way to try to (many times poorly) mitigate the inherent latency in software emulation, which does not exist in mister or just about any FPGA or real hardware.>>12707803See >>12707051Just because it passes all those tests does not mean it's perfect, but it's far more accurate than any software emulator. Software Saturn emulation has been about as big a mess as N64.
>>12707868>>12707864>Kneejerk reaction to runahead among fpga sissiesYou love to see it.
>>12707873Why would anyone with an fpga need runahead?
>>12707873I love my mister fpga and I hate trannies. Please argue properly. What is runahead? And why is it needed?
>>12707903Trannies are making the best cores. Dont hate.
>>12707903>What is runahead?Basically, emulators running multiple copies of themselves and save-stating every frame so that when you press a button it auto-loads the save-state of the version that is furthest ahead to attempt to counteract that latency that is inherent in all software emulation. It's a hackish way to attempt to "fix" a flaw that exists in all software emulation simply due to how all software emulation works, and is very hit-or-miss, even when it hits it can be stuttery, is not a one-size-fits-all setting for every game and needs to be adjusted, and significantly increases system resources.>And why is it needed? If you're using a FPGA? It's not. It's purely for software emulators to use significantly more resources to replicate a FPGA naturally not adding latency.
>>12707863You're just an ill-informed dumbass. MiSTer has identical input lag to a Saturn on CRT, which is not laggy. Saturn software emulators have created the laggy Saturn meme
>>12707921All they're good for.
>>12707963>Did you boys order up some mistah cores? ^_^
>>12707921No, I'm sorry. They raped all our media, and hard target children's and jap mediaI will be friendly and not care so long as you don't fly tranny flags or make being a tranny your identity.T.work in translation and "localization".
If a game runs at 15fps on original hardware (like Perfect Dark), does the MiSTer also run it like that? It would be accurate, after all.
>>12708061You can get special turbo cores that run games faster if you want for n64
>>12708061Yeah, I think some cores have Bizarro stuff where you can overclock it but the goal is accuracy and people figure out the tinkering later
>>12708061>If a game runs at 15fps on original hardware (like Perfect Dark), does the MiSTer also run it like that?Yes, but with the special overclocked core and the Perfect Dark performance patch you can get 60FPS in some instances, usually around 45FPS when things are happening. Night and day difference.
>>12708061Yes, the whole point is to try to make it run exactly like the original hardware, including any slowdowns, bugs, and glitches that the original game had on original hardware. Not to try to enhance the game. Some cores have some optional enhancement features like disabling sprite limits or overclocking some of the components, but in most cases they are not a drastic difference.
>>12707054>>12707064Nope, you can play using your physical discs, check it out: https://github.com/Anime0t4ku/Main_MiSTer_Physical_Disc

I tried Aliexpress but the seller tried to pull one on me after placing the order and changing the product from a complete Mister to just a Mister shell and PCB board missing fans and god knows what else. I don't want to DIY this shit, I just want to put games on an SD card and get on with my life.
>>12709285Dunno if they're ever going to be in stock again but Retroremake
>>12709292Yeah I've seen these, I missed the preoder window by 2 weeks. I can see they're at batch 4 so I am hopeful for a return.
>>12709292>>12709297They probably will but they're having a hard time getting a hold of the actual fpga chip. Apparently they have a bunch of superstation boards fully assembled just sitting waiting for an fpga to be soldered in. Batch 4 has apparently been delayed like 3 times. It's supposed to start shipping probably at the start of august.
Has anyone here tried the superstation one with mikes' nes core that mimics its exact video output?
>>12709297>>12709330I dunno why people want a super station personally.I'd rather have the De10 stack.Like unless you ONLY want to play PS1 games, it would feel weird playing like gameboy on that thing. Definitely an autism thing on my part but yeah.
>>12709372Definitely autism man. I just want it because of the good quality analogue video. Dont care what it looks like.
>>12707360Should be working on superstation now with latest build
>>12706951Why would you want N64 emulation that's truly accurate to real hardware when most games on the system look like you've got cataracts and run at framerates comparable to correspondence chess?
weak bait
>>12709413I love my 64 as is. I don't want some faggy upscale or "recompile". The mister lets me enjoy these games right while outputting clean hdmi or analog video.
>>12709285Sure you didn't choose the wrong option? A lot of the listings on Aliexpress look too good to be true but then if you pay attention it's defaulting to just a case or something under the option to select your "color" and you need to manually select the actual product.I am not a fan of the Aliexpress ones though, they have altered the design in a way that makes them incompatible with many accessories or able to go dual-RAM, I think a few cores have had problems with them too. There was zero reason to alter the design as well, the RetroRemake ones are also Chinese but they are 1:1 compatible with standard accessories.>>12709292>>12709297>>12709330I think the guy is currently focusing on the SuperStation One, hopefully once the first few batches of those are sold he will make more base MiSTers again.>>12709372I think Taki has a lot of nostalgia for the PSX and wanted to make a consolized MiSTer based on it. I would rather have a standard DE-10 stack too. Just about any of it's benefits are possible on a base mister too, like it's GUI or adding a disk drive. I think the only thing not on a base MiSTer (yet) is M.2 drive support, though, you can use a USB enclosure for that.>>12709413Many people want to experience the games as they were when they played them originally, and many of those enhancements don't work well if you are outputting to a CRT.
>>12709728The superstation also has specific sony dac chips for is analog video.
mister is more accurate than original hardware
>>12709774This. So much this.
When outputting over analog, can the mister output the exact resolution of the console its emulating? Or can you manually adjust the "viewport" as it were? Like if I were play gba games would I be able to play them full-screened without scaling artifacts?
>>12710628Should ask in the mister discord where everyone owns one and would know. /vr/ is full of haters that are without
>>12710628Default is native res. Handheld cores output in a 240p window I think. There's an .ini option to output scaled video over analog but scaling 240x160 to 320x240 would look terrible. 15 KHz isn't enough for nice scaling. There's a bit of discussion here https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=5856The easiest way to fill the screen would be to use a border image like these https://github.com/Dinierto/MiSTer-GBA-Borders
Did they ever add picture offset for all the cores? I get that SNES and Mega Drive are offset in real life due to their clock signals, but I don't want to adjust my TV settings every fucking time I want to switch between them.
>>12706956i would rather use software emulation. it's cheaper
>>12706956>It runs laps around software emulationNo. It doesn't. But I guess if you spend so much money on it you have to tell yourself these exaggerations. For example software emulation of PSX is way better because of all the features and enhancements.
>>12711545post your hand
>>12711545I like to use original controllers with no lag.
>>12711524I think there is new crt settings in the update area or something that lets you fuck with crt picture, you have to google it first though because I barely remember what it does
>>12708867Agreed that it was disappointing the dock does not work yet, but maybe some of the code or at least the knowledge/lessons from the MiSTER implementation of physical discs can help the Superstation One along.>>12709002Of course. There are so many games I enjoyed playing on that platform. If your taste in games is similar to mine, there's a lot to like from those systems.
>>12712520Honestly the dock makes more sense for the extra snac ports anyway.
>>12712520I believe someone else got the dock working already, that or just usb cd roms
>>12712164i haven't experienced any noticeable input lag

i am not a competitive gamer. why would i give a fuck about having input lag?
>>12712639Do you play fast paced games? Or just boring jrpg shit?
>>12712710what is considered fast paced? the spyro trilogy? yeahmy tv's input lag didn't prevent me from finishing the games

I'm never buying an fpga shit because input lag is important and it will never have run ahead.
>>12713497same i heard that it cant even run ps5 gamesthis shit is for the birdsim sticking with emulation where my wallet is safe for my next steak dinner
>>12713494>making the game harder for yourself for absolutely no reasonwell if that makes you happy

>>12717621I didn't, never gave Discord my phone number or any other ID
>>12717739Its what it says for me. Thats the GBA channel btw lmao.
>>12707651Theoretically it will give you the highest accuracy possible, but only if the cores can provide that accuracy (and I guess they can now for some consoles). Whether accuracy is important to you or you'd rather play with good enough accuracy on Zsnes which is full of audio and color inaccuracies, that's up to you.
>>12717935As far as home consoles are concerned I think they might only be there with the nes. There was an experimental core released a while back that accurately emulated the nes' particular composite signal that made games look kind of wavey and shimmery. Some devs took advantage of that look like with gradius for example. I don't think they've gone to those lengths for other consoles even though something like the genesis could really use it.
>>12707552Lol bodied that freak.I like ghese devices for what they are. Emulators for just about every console have gotten so much better in recent years, I am glad to see people making dedicated hardware devices for old games. It's neat. I probably won't buy one for myself anytime soon because my computers do it just fine, but these types of things would make great gifts for friends and family. Assuming the ass mad retards itt have any.
>>12717798Wow that looks absolutely fucking miserable. I was on the fence but I just downloaded discord and now I'm going to delete it.
>>12717961>just downloaded discordWelcome to the current year + 11
>>12717964Enjoy your special club then, I guess.
>>12717972I don't enjoy it. I just stick around for experimental core releases. As you can see, I can't even post. Not like I'd really want to anyway.
>>12717798I never connected any personal information to my Discord account and I can use the server just fine, any channel on it.>>12717935It's not just accuracy, it also has several other advantages like no additional latency, being able to natively connect to analog screens, being able to natively use original accessories (Those last two are about the only way to use original lightguns outside of the original hardware), it's rather small and compact for what it does, and you need a rather powerful system that would cost far more to emulate N64 on a similar accuracy level.
