There's so many you barely see mentioned out there. Are any of them that good? From 8-bit games like Musashi no Bouken to GBA titles like Magical Vacation, what are the actually obscure fan-translated JRPGs worth playing?
>>
>>12707256
Mother 3 is very underrated obscure hidden gem
>>
>>12707256
Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia are excellent. Star Ocean came out just a few months before FF7 and pushed the SNES to its absolute limits. Its basically a PS1 RPG crammed onto a SNES cart.
>>
>>12707256
I wouldn't call picrel hidden, but it's not tremendously well known either.
Best Front Mission game.
>>
>>12707452
Best Front Mission game is Front Mission: Gun Hazard. Highly recommended OP, it has a translation patch too. Not exactly a JRPG but its adjacent.
>>
Oh, and Bahamut Lagoon is another nice SRPG.
>>
>>12707256
Metal Max Returns on SNES. It's fucking awesome.
>>
>>12707457
>Front Mission: Gun Hazard
I enjoyed it but I wouldn't compare it to the main series, wildly different genre.
>>
>>12707256
Linda Cubed, Scenario C is the best the medium ever produced. It's a shame it peaked too early, a real 32bit Linda with pre-rendered BGs would be ultimate ludo.

Metal Max Returns comes close. Racing Lagoon if vroom.

While not an RPG but a TBS game, Hybrid Front has all the craft and superb writing as Linda Cubed
>>
>>12707820
Hybrid Front is awesome. If you want a corpo controlled Earth (from space) setting while being people that salvage scrap while operating military vehicles it's worth a look. Also you can level up your characters and put them into different vehicles so they wouldn't be "class locked" like other games but still would have stats that would favor certain vehicle usages.

I have to get back to it. I got through the first handful of missions and now they were granted access to travel North American roads for junk.
>>
The Sailor Moon RPG, the Dragon Ball RPGs, Sweet Home, and Mother 3.
>>
>>12707458
it's too fucking easy

Gunmans Proof
>>
oh didnt see the JRPG part
>>
>>12707256
Sorry but AI translations are just so much better
>>
>>12708027
Second this. It's literally ALttP if it were a light hearted western with guns. Lots of fun.
>>
>>12707458
The cuck game...
>>
>>12707256

Chaos World (Chronix translation, the two AG translations are broken), Emerald Dragon.

pretty much any SFC ROM endong in T-Eng is worth playing for a couple hours. Weirdly enough I didn't enjoy Hourai High so ymmv.

If you like Musashi no Bouken there are other lesser known "1 party member" DQ1 clones worth playing on Famicom like SD Keiji Blader or The Magic Candle. Still with only 1 party member but not as a dungeon crawler I loved Shadow Brain (make sure to check out the 30 mins VHS intro video). Still with only 1 party member but more like Sweet Home, Namco Prism Zone Dream Master is also great.
All of these are translated and lesser known even in Japan.
>>
>>12707905
Hybrid Front really looks interesting. In the same genre, Jyutei Senki was okay, it was carried by the unique setting.

My pick would be Radia Senki for NES.
>>
>>12707820
racing lagoon is a fucking terrible game beloved by people who have never played a racing game in their life
>>
>>12707420
Maybe I should make a game inspire by it but add gay niggas
>>
>>12707820
>metal Max
boring garbage
>>
>>12707448
Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia are beginnings to big franchises. Not obscure
>>12707458
Squaresoft games also aren’t really “hidden” at all at this point. At least the ones that have been fan-translated already for 20 years

Can't believe this hidden gem is only partially translated.
>>
>>12707256
Is that Hourai High?
Also Rudra no Hihou.
Its cool but not mind breaking.
>>
>>12708027
>>12708079
The dungeons are terrible though.
>>
>>12711028
>Rudra no Hihou.
One of the worst JRPGs I've ever played. It's no coincidence it was never officially translated.
>>
>>12711143
I hate people like you who post nonsensical shit like that. Opinion discarded.
>>
>>12707458
Cuckold game
>>
>>12708494
I need dq1 clones to have some sort of gimmick, like double dungeons had, being pseudo real-time, or having sports/racing/etc. battles. Most of them fuck up the simple but effective flowchart that dq1 had so they might as well do something differenr.

dudes who've never even seen a pussy in real life worried about cuckolding
>>
>>12711586
WOOOOOW YOU LOOKED AT A HOLE, COOL!
>>
There are none. Most weebs are like gamefaq megaman fans and will be obsessed with any shit even sounding remotely japanese. Most of translated jrpg's suck balls.
>>
>>12711153
NTA but rudra is a shit game. barely anything memorable from it outside of the multiple protagonists, and that was done better by live-a-live
>>
>>12711586

i see strays cats every day

>>12712376
Hi OP
>>
>>12712376
It looks pretty good for an SNES game, and the magic system is fun to mess around with for a while, but other than that, it’s absolute dogshit.
>>
>>12713078
>>12712376
Yeah, I remember playing the translation around 2006 and found the game underwhelming. I agree the presentation is great and the OST is awesome, but the rest is pretty bland. The gimmicky, imbalanced spell system doesn't help.

Energy Breaker, another sRPG, with awesome graffix, interesting gameplay and a funny script.
>>
>>12711586
You sound upset. Hit close to home, huh?
>>
>>12713701
The short duration was a bit disappointing. I remember starting the game after lunch then reaching the ending the same afternoon, but still had a good time.
>>
>>12713716
I liked it being short, long games are a chore

Yes it is Hourai High
>>

Cool.
I remember getting interested in it but never played it.
He looks very whimsical. Your opinion?

The entire PS trilogy is in English now that they had some basic quality control and didn't just mix MTL with translations from a gamefaqs guide the instant tools were out. Poporogue's patch had an actual proper playtesting for its initial release.
The PS2 games are pretty but the plot is poorly executed enough the fansubbed anime series based on it is a superior experience.
>>
>>12716541
Do you know if the souvenir transfer function from game to game works on emulator in the ps1 pietro games?
I’ve been meaning to replay popolocrois 1 and go onto poporogue but I want to collect all the souvenirs this time.
Is there an effort to translate the ps2 pinon games anyway? I’d like to play them anyway even if I agree the anime is the superior experience
