What would your ideal controller look like? I made a rough sketch of mine.It would use the standard Gamecube controller as a base, although the controller would be sized up a bit to accommodate for a few things. The Y, X, B, and A buttons would be laid out in a similar fashion to the Super Nintendo controller. The right analog stick and d-pad would remain the same, although the d-pad would be made significantly larger. For the c-stick, I would have it be one of those flat circle-pads found on the 3DS. As for the back buttons, I would have them flattened out a bit, and a second Z-trigger added on the other side.
>>12710464dual shock form factor (really just the dpad/joystick placement with a decent dpad) but with paddles on the back and six face buttons
modern generic xbox controller is perfection
>>127104643DS flat stick is horrible though and has way too much tension.>>12710467>with paddles on the backGay.>>12710468Pretty much. You could probably add the white and black buttons though and put the back and start buttons where they were on the S Type on OG Xbox controllers to improve it.
there is no ideal controller, you need at least one D-pad centric controller and one for analog games
>>12710562this, picrel and saturn pad is all you need
>>12710464>rough sketch >fully completed including coloring it with crayon
>>12710624I know but my lines could've been a lot better (also I used Crayola colored pencils)
>>12710464>circle pad like a 3DS>the only joystick that literally breaks from being used>Gamecube design as a baseEither retarded or Mad Katz employee
>>12710464You need to be 18 to post here.
>>12710667What's wrong with the 3DS circle pad?
Anon, your drawing is adorable. GC controller is horrible though. Hate the travel on the triggers or whatever and it's just a gross shape, absolutely enforces the feeling that you're playing with a children's toy. It was an improvement over the Nonce 64 but that's like saying getting piss in your eye is better than getting shit in your eye.The Playstation layout is my favourite although I see the merit in Xbox style controllers, which feel great but I need my sticks in line. (Sixaxis/DS3 were awful, though). Honestly think the Dualsense is the best right now, normally I hate controller gimmicks and turn them off, but I really like the haptic triggers.
>>12710708That's fair. I guess I've just grown accustomed to the GC controller.
>>12710713Someone in another thread said that Nintendo designed the controllers around their flagship games and to hell with anything else that comes out for the console and I think there might be some truth to that. The N64 abomination actually works quite well with Mario 64, for example. It felt like "Ok, this is weird but it makes sense in the context of this new 3D movement, mebbe this is the future..." then almost everything else felt like dogshit to play with the thing. I guess the GC controller works ok playing Smash or Mario Sunshine, but when I used it for Resident Evil 4, 0 and the ports it was horrible.
>>12710464Cool drawing, Chris Chan
>>12710560>>with paddles on the back>Gay.Fuck you faggot. You can't think the trigger feels good on the N64 and think paddles and trigger buttons are gay. And if you think the trigger buttom was bad on the n64 then go kill yourself
People ITT roasting OPs drawing are boring normiebrained summerfags and should fuck off back to /v/.

>>12710756Nah, N64 works for anything made on that console. For instance, Banjo Kazooie on a dual shock just is awful, it was designed for a six face button layout. Gamecube is just a shitty controller design held up by nostalgia.
>>12710464Try a PS5 controller bros. Hands down the best I have handled in my life.
>>12710464Xbox Duke with bumpers. That's all you need.
>>12710464
>>12710464The best (and only) good thing about the GC controller in my opinion is the face buttons layout and shapes.A is your main action, B is the smaller but very conveniently placed secondary, X and Y are the dutiful sidekicks that you won't use as much so they stay in their corner but ready to go. Only thing is they could be different colours as I sometimes forget which is which. It's just a lot better than all buttons being identical.Screw everything else about the controller though. And RE4 doesn't feel better with the 8 direction joystick, everyone's full of shit.
>>12711091Fully agreed. Everything about the controller I can't stand but having the buttons be different sizes and shapes was an excellent decision.
>>12710997God damn, you are one autistic BTFO sperg if you can't handle criticism of your favorite toy.
>>12710464>What would your ideal controller look like?Take a modern Xbox controllerMade the d-pad Plus-shaped and use microswitchesGive it TMR sticksAdd a C and Z face buttonThat's it, don't touch anything else, don't fuck with it or add a touchpad or stupid LEDs or other nonsenseDon't even give it an internal rechargeable battery, the current design where in the back you can plugin standard AAs, rechargeable AAs, or a rechargeable battery pack is far superior to the internal proprietary battery crap everyone else doesBAM perfect controller for both wired or wireless that will LAST and work for both modern and 99% of retro games, about the only systems it would not be ideal for were ones that had a numberpad in the controller like the Atari 5200, Jaguar, or Colecovision, not really a big loss.SO WHY DOES NOBODY MAKE ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO THAT?
>>12710664I think you did a great job. I also like the gamecube controller, the triggers are very satisfying to pull.
>>12710708vidya are toys, anon. The GC controller is great. I love the travel of the triggers, gives you great control and the shape is real nice. The z-button is trash though. Too small and feels cheap.Nowadays controllers are all mediocre compromises and modern games suffer from that.
>>12710464Something like this probably
>>12710464this with gulikit es pro d-pad and button hardware.
>>12711039sovl
>>12711820>and work for both modern and 99% of retro gamesIt works for 99% of retro games, but it's also not ideal for 99% of modern games. Most controllers manufacturers probably see it as not worth the trouble, rather than having one controller that kinda works for everything, it would be better to have a controller that works well with 99.9% of the games, and it's just a bit awkward with N64/Saturn games.
goat
>>12710464Xbox Type S controller with the 360's transforming d'pad, black and white buttons back in their original position and with added shoulder buttons.
>>12711039You forgot to fix the sticks and that disgusting fucking melted rubber looking ass excuse for a d'pad
I've never had a PS4, but the DualShock 4 is what I use for everything that isn't keyboard + mouse. It's the perfect controller. They even spread the sticks out a little from previous ones to counter the thumb angle argument.
>>12715471>>12715506>>12715534>>12715992>>12716061these are so fucking retarded i can't help but laugh
>>12716069don't be jealous
>>12715325Near perfect only problem is micro usb.
>>12711954The sticks are useless
I could reasonably manufacture a modern Saturn 3D pad but we would be talking:- min 3000 units initial order- $25,000 tooling - $6,000 if wireless for UK/EU/US certifications - $20/unit if amortising dev and carriage costs- Let's just add $10 to allow some shipping overheadThat's around $40/unit cost to cover for the first run. Will 3,000 people pay $80-$100 for a well constructed modern 3D pad?
>>12715315fuck you asymetrical fetishist
>>12711961I still have a working Hammerhead digital somewhere, it'd be perfect if it had a select button.
This is my favorite controller design but it lacks rumble so it's disqualified from being my favorite ever.
>>12716349Fuck, fucked up.
