So, can we all agree this was the peak of the series?
>>
>>12711743
Nfs4 and porsche was the peak for me
>>
For me it's pic related. One of the coolest soundtracks ever.
>>
>>12711743
I enjoyed it, but I was also 13 years old so I thought spinners and putting neons under your car was cool
>>
>>12711743
Carbon was better than botu ug and mw
>>

It's great but really drags on in the last 2 acts

This game was a step down from MW 2005 and started NFS' decline that carried through until HP 2010.

Shit, didn't include picture (I was originally going to make a standalone thread for this until I saw this one).

I'm of that age where for me NFS Underground was the first game in the series. I do sometimes wonder how the series looked like before dwelling into the street racing culture and if I should give older entries a go.
>>
>>12711772
Is that a screenshot from Idiocracy?
>>
>>12711743
lol, lmao even. Absolute zoomer opinion. UG2 cemented the series as slop forever. Still hasn't recovered from street racing brainrot and never will.

All driving games that don't have an El Camino are trash.

I loved it. Still do. This shit was my fucking life for a few years. Really tickled my autism. I didn't even like cars, I just loved the gameplay, the customization, and the city.

This came out before MW, you stupid idiot

I still remember playing The Need for Speed on 3DO at the local game store and being blown away by it at the time.

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 PS2 version was made by Blackbox and served as the foundation and tech demo for what they wanted to do in NFS Underground. The handling model should feel familiar enough for you to have fun with it. There is a 60fps patch you can use in PCSX2 if you are a baby about it.

Most Wanted (2005) is. Carbon had its moments but feels too slow

Nope.
Too repetitive.

>>12711757
The goat, but a bit cringe to play today due to the blacklist mid 2000s personas.

Watered down NFS.

NFS HP 2 and NFSU are the ones that aged the best overall.

Which NFS has the best carrier/story mode? This is the thing bedside driving and tracks I care about if I'm putting more that a couple hours into these games.

4 (on PC) has the best career mode. It has more tracks, comparable amount of soul (not quite as much) and has loads of mods (on PC). 3 wins out on the car list, imo. No concept cars and the mediocre lowest tier (Z3 and SLK only) is kinda weak.
Overall I like 4 more, but I can understand why people might prefer 3

I have strong nostalgia for Carbon because it was one of the first games in the series I played along with HP2 and I loved the music, the atmosphere, the city and the canyon duels
I know it's inferior to MW now but I still replay it every few years and always have a blast

>>12714376
Underground aged the worst out of the Black Box era games

the last time i played this i got hit by massive anti-nostalgia with the handling making cars feel like they are on rails, the rubberbanding which admittedly is on other games too and worst of all the endless url races

I miss when need for speed had different gearing for vehicles depending on if you picked automatic or manual,m reflecting what the cars had in real life at the time. Your corvette has the choice of a 4 speed slushbox automatic or a 5 speed manual to really portray that sports car experience.

Carbon is by far my favorite of the series, and one of my favorite games of all time. One of the first games I ever played on the ps2, the sound of the crew members and the soundtrack feels so cozy.
When I got my first paycheck one of the first things I bought was the 360 version. I know the whole map like the back of my hand after playing it more times than I could ever remember
When I was young, for some reason I liked "camping" in the shed in our backyard. My parents would haul out the sleeping bags, snacks, old crt, vhs, ps2, and our late dog Cashew, and we'd watch movies and play NFS Carbon all night. I miss it all so fucking much
>>
The only thing carbon has going for it is that palmont does look pretty nice (bet than bayview) but beyond that it is lacking as a game. It has very few career races, the touge parts are minimal and the challenge series is still a bad fit in the rest of the game.
>>
>>12717187
The challenge series are fun, way more varied than the ones in MW
>>
>>12711743
No, MW was and this was established years ago.
>>
>>12714639
based anon.
nfs3 is the best and the only one that got pursuits right.
>>
>>12717208
The idea behind the challenge series is good but given it doesn't really have anything to do with the main career - which is the meat of the game - means you are left with doing more of the same for the most part with no real pay off. What they should've done is rolled the challenges into something you can do over the main career and tie a few unlocks to that to make them more engaging.
>>
>>12717236
It lets you drive a wide variety of cars unlike the career mode
I remember it took me years to complete the one with the dump truck
>>
>>12717292
>It lets you drive a wide variety of cars unlike the career mode
Well more of that is carbon flat out does not give enough money to actually use the car selection it has. Regardless of challenge mode is the game doubled payouts the career would be more fun.
>>
>>12717236
Also the series unlocks stuff like vinyls and spoilers while the 2 collectors edition challenges unlocks 2 new cars

Reward cards was another interesting feature though I never managed to get all of them and some are only obtainable online
>>
>>12717187
If you thought the career mode was too short and easy you should definitely try the Battle Royale mod
>>
>>12711743
Nah, open world and the races are too samey
>>12711838
I don't understand the dislike for Carbon. It's Most Wanted but at night time.

Carbon, UG1 and MW are the peak of NFS
>>
>>12717314
People were disappointed because it was too short and cops were an afterthought
>>
>>12717314
It feels slow by comparison and the crew mechanic feels horribly afterthought-y and arbitrary.

I did like the drift mode.

the older i got i really don't like the fucking police chase shit
i'd rather take high stakes at that point anyway
also i prefer the playstation version of nfs3 better than the pc
aside from the first one and the blackbox titles they're all better on playstation
really loathe late 1990s chicness shit
lived thru it and had enough of
and yes
indeed not nfsu2 but the first underground is undeniably the peak of the "series" that changed the game for good gathering proper attention
mw was kinda the culmination with the fucking police shit again
the old games are the classic era
and btw that pic is soulless crap af
at least play it right at 1024x768

>the older i got i really don't like the fucking police chase shit
It isn't like you have to engage with hot pursuit mode to unlock 99% of content in the game and the last few items are the pursuit vehicles which if you hate pursuit means nothing.
>aside from the first one and the blackbox titles they're all better on playstation
No way amigo - II is way better on pc, 3 you can't go wrong with either, 4 is better on psx but porsche is way better on pc.
>>
>>12718119
even the gameplay is better on playstation not just the aesthetic and graphics
there's more weight to it while driving on the road it just feels right
on pc the cars look fucking squashed too
anyways whatever
