But it's the type of pretentiousness I can love. Creators trying to tell a grand story they care deeply about, even if they don't fully nail it. You can tell the whole thing is dripping with love too, including for mecha anime and all of their other inspirations. It's pretentious in a sense, but still awesome and fun. You get the sense you're playing something made by a couple throwing all their favorite stuff into it. It's more pretentious in the way of an RPG Maker dev trying to make their epic dream game and falling short, than in the way of an indie art dev making a walking sim about depression.
