Is Mother 1 improved by the Easy Ring or does it take away from overcoming the challenges? Me personally I think it could be good as practice but it shouldn't be a substitute for beating the entire game, the fact it's optional is a nice addition though.

Mother 1 is improved by the recent SNES fan remake it got
no reason to play with that ancient NESlop graphics anymore
>>
>>12713070
NES graphics are sovlful though.
>>
It's kind of a band-aid solution, but I get why people want it, because the game's encounter rate makes it kind of a slog.

>>12713079
They are.
>>
I don't understand the question, JRPGs aren't challenging in any way, shape or form, as opposed to shmups, so I'm curious why OP thinks you can remove challenge from something that never had it in the first place.

Obsessed tranny
>>
i would recommend either using the easy ring or just using emulator to disable/enable random encounters at your leisure. there is really no defending the encounter rate especially when considering how vast (and empty) a lot of the game is.
>>
>>12713180
Shmups aren't challenging either, you just re-do the same level until you memorise the pattern.
>>
>>12713068
i didnt think it was necessary. it's not really difficult or grindy compared to other RPGs of its time
the average earthbound fag isnt really into old RPGs and just want characters and story so i understand why they'd want to use it, it would probably improve the experience for that kind of person

>wasting time playing "fan" mod remake shit

The game is much more fun without it. Instead of using all the tools at your disposal (assist PSI are actually great in this game), it basically turns the game into press attack to win. The easy ring is really only good for people who absolutely refuse to play the game otherwise, and just want a cakewalk to experience the story.
>>
>>12713070
I would agree but they butchered the overworld, making it a worse first experience and better replay experience
>>
>>12713370
That seems like a divisive point. On one hand, the game world in the first game is truly vast, it's enormous, but on another hand, like probably 70% of the game world is also functionally empty space, with no reason to actually explore almost anything off the main paths, which is probably part of why it's a hard sell with its high encounter rate.

I think a lot of people would be more tolerant of walking far stretches of land, dickfencing so many enemies along the way, if there was actually neat stuff to find here and there, but there just isn't.

Mother barely punishes you for dying, you just go back to your last phone and lose some of your on-hand cash. Tons of Japanese kids were able to beat the game just fine without it. I beat the game when I was 12 without it.
Man up.

People who suggest shit like this should be permabanned.

Post your Etrian 3 endgame save.

I can't tell if this is a genuine shmup player post or a falseflag

This.
I'll add, rather than the easy ring that changes the whole game, the added item to the GBA port makes the final area a lot less dangerous by letting you warp to Magicant for free heal and then directly back to Mt. Itoi (you can't teleport there using PSI)
Anyway, the fear of Mother 1's difficulty mostly comes from Itoi famously saying he told the programmers to do "whatever" during the final area, but to be fair a difficult, even unfair final area is a common trope, DQ's final areas are worse and yet they are normiecore. Come on.

This is not a flex. Quite the opposite, actually, it means you were one of the autistic kids who jumped on the bandwagon because of Smash.
>>

What a hopelessly low value and retarded post.

Happy 36th anniversary to the original MOTHER by the way.

>does it take away from overcoming the challenges?
Grinding isn't a challenge. If you use the easy ring AND grind then yeah you're a dumbass.

Not really, I thought EarthBound looked very gay, I was just confused why I had "Earthbound Zero" in a romset my brother gave me and checked it out and ended up playing and beating it.

NO CRYING UNTIL THE ENDING!

Hobonichi is releasing, bit by bit, an interview with Shinbo Minami (cult underground mangaka, who was the chief editor of legendary Garo magazine for many years).
He did the original character design for Mother, not every character (for instance, he doesn't remember drawing Starman), but he did at least Ninten and Ana, as well as many of the animal enemies like gorillas, tigers, elephants.
There's still 2 more parts coming up, today's part ended in a cliffhanger with Itoi entering the room (the interviewer of Shingo is another person).
The interview is made in a funny tome where Shingo feels "interrogated", and he tries hard to downplay his role as a designer, so the interviewer has to make an effort into making him "confess" that he indeed made the designs.
First part nothing was really said at all lol but on today's part he confirmed it.
Also the Ninten doodle that appears in pic related is probably it (maybe more illustrations will be posted later?)
So this drawing right here is likely the very first apparition of a Mother character ever.

It ain't a flex. Just proving the point that even random children can reasonably beat a game with any amount of persistence.
