I love these games but would never ever play them.
>>12713405Pc grognards really tried to push these as Uber mensch games.
>>12713407they're just so fucking slow
A lot of these old computer RPGs have abysmal combat
Is this the thread were we complain and cope about being filtered?
>>12713410There's a combat speed slider in the settings, it's at the slowest setting by default, just max it out and also turn on auto-run out of combat (there is literally no reason to ever walk), the games are lightning fast once you do that.
If you don't enjoy retro CRPG's, just don't play them. There, easy fix. Personally I think they are the pinnacle of gaming.
>>12713405First playthrough of Fallout 1 was good. Afterwards the facade fades and the only good thing about it is the IDEA, the promise you get from it. And the visuals. But 30 years later it's fucking whatever millennialslop, stick it in some "top 20 oldies" list somewhere.
>>12713405>I love these games but would never ever play them.this sums up 90% of Fallout 1 & 2 ''fanbase''
>>12713437He doesn't play them.
>>12713407>Pc grognards really tried to push these as Uber mensch games.Go play your Zelda faggot.PC gamers are diverse folks. Most people never even played Fallout, it's all just the internet bubble.
>>12713596True. Fallout sold a hundred thousand compared to Doom's millions, so Fallout was basically a troon audience game until Bethesda made something good out of it
>>12713606so true, xister! the games that sell the mostest are the bestest after all! i'm gonna dilate and play doom later tonight!
>>12713431gotta walk to stealth
>>12713749He never played Fallout 1 or 2
>>12713749>>12713774Never used stealth to be honest, mostly ran the typical max AGI gunner builds. I've no idea if stealth is any good or even if you can sneak attack at all, I never felt the need to engage with it, as called shots to the eyes 1-2 shot everything with very little effort.
>>12713405I'm willing to replay Fallout 1. Not Fallout 2 though, it's too much of a slog
>>12713808Stealth is mostly for trespassing. No sneak attack bonuses like Bethesda games.
>>12713810I like the party aspect of FO2, but it does run on a bit long for what it is.FO1 is perfectly paced and wastes none of your time.
>>12713812Arcanum (next game from the same devs) has sneak attacks, i.e. backstabbing an unaware target has a 5x damage bonus which is crazy and you can abuse it by stunning everyone with the stun spell or stun grenades, because stunned targets count as "unaware".
>>12713808>Never used stealth to be honest, mostly ran the typical max AGI gunner buildsThis is why I ALONE have the right to honestly shit on these games, because I truly played them and came to understand them. The glazers are simple tourists who watched a video and played with a guide.
>>12713829nta, but how many hours do you have in classic fallout?how many different builds have you tried?
>>12713405They're unplayable. They aged like total shit.
>>12713835Do you want me to tell you how many playthroughs it takes at minimum, or do you fellas want to guess?
>>12713596>immediately starts crying about zeldaHoly rent free
>>12713829Nah, played them for the first time in 2008, shortly before the release of Fallout 3, mostly so that I have a frame of reference. Back then YouTube was incredibly small and I think the video resolution was capped at 360p lmaoThat said, I did follow guides for my builds, mostly Per Jorner's Nearly Ultimate Fallout Guide, I believe, just looked it up and it's still hosted on the Fallout Wiki. Very solid guide, explains the SPECIAL system, the traits and skills, as well as suggests some solid builds.ANYWAY, Fallout 1 & 2 infamously have a lot of underpowered/worthless skills, there's a huge amount of trap options, which I think is very bad design, but it's pretty typical when it comes to the games of that era. You were meant to make a shitty character, get frustrated or softlocked, restart, do this a few times until you finally figure everything out. So using a guide to skip this bruteforcing process was a no-brainer.
>>12713910>worthless skills>bad designWe agree on that one for sure
>>12713896no, i just want to know how many hours you have in classic fallout and how many different builds you've tried.
>>12713870Compared to a lot of other older CRPGs they're pretty playable and accessible
>>12713932The anon you replied to doesn't play retro games at all
>>12713925Hours and "builds" over the decades are hard to estimate. But the required playthroughs are easy to deduce (the game even gives the answer), so if anyone wants to flex their greater than 6 INT, now's your chance.
>>12713957i don't believe you've played the game
>>12713405Fallout 1 was SOVL. >Concise story. Unique setting and lore. Great artwork. Stands on it's own.Fallout 2 was DYLE.>Too long. Full of gimmicks. Slapped together story. Patchy artwork. "Bu-but I'm Fallout 1's sequal so you have to like me"
>>12713957Why are you being so evasive over a simple question?
>>12713407Yep. Fallout 1 is loved for 'what it represents' moreso than how it plays or what it actually IS at the end of the day.
nu-gamers are such whiny faggots.
>>12713405they're very overrated games. I gave up finishing fallout 1 because a bug prevented me from going into the super mutant hideout and fallout 2 was so vague and open I just uninstalled
>>12714849Fallout 2's was funnier than 1, if only for the "it wuz aliumz n shieet" twist at the end.
>>12713405I love Fallout 1, it's my personal favorite CRPG. The setting, atmosphere, music, and RPG mechanics are all awesome. That being said it's definitely flawed, notably how the amount of content in the game is very limited and some parts even being broken or unfinished. I wish Interplay/Black Isle had the chance to refine the isometric Fallout games more and create something truly great, but oh well.
>>12716943>I wish Interplay/Black Isle had the chance to refine the isometric Fallout games more and create something truly great, but oh well.Has the genre gone forward at all? I believe it was a dead-end.
>>12716976>Has the genre gone forward at all?Post-apocalyptic CRPGs? Idk, I guess Underrail was pretty great. Regardless, I think Fallout itself never really reached its potential.
>>12716993What potential is there? Or is it just a feeling
>>12717074>Or is it just a feelingKinda. I felt that Fallout 1 despite being good was too short and the content/quests are too basic especially on replays. Fallout 2 did improve on this since there's just much more to do and the quests are much more intricate than Fallout 1. But obviously 2 suffers a lot from it's inconsistent tone and goofier world building than 1. So I thought if another Fallout was able to have the more straightforward writing of Fallout 1 with the sprawling content of 2, that could have been a truly great Fallout RPG. But that obviously never came to be.
>>12717128fans did that. fallout sonora is a total conversion mod for 2 that keeps the tone of 1
>>12717143Based
I want to crack every zoomer's head open with a sledgehammer (in Fallout)
I played a sex mod for Fallout called Fuckout or something like that. I remember you could screw Tandi, and there were two options to do it: gentle or hard; then you either saved her or left her there for the Raiders, and I ended up leaving her because screwing Tandi hard alerts them to your presence and I was too underpowered to kill them all.
>>12713774He's correct thoughever
>>12717718>thougheverkys
>>12717718The anon who said there's no reason to walk is not correct
>>12717712Powerful
