I replayed the game and tried some things with it but I just got let down about the later half of the game. The first half before you arrive to the harbor is goty and maybe it's more in close quarters and grounded compared to later levels? Talking about gameplay but the settings also feel better because it's not just bunkers and commandos.
>>12713990It's pretty much perfect until you hit the final mansion level.
>>12714001Yeah so the mansion at the end of part 2?I feel the game overall peaks in the ragnarok showdown - first drug nightmare - escaping from the basement. The rest of the story isn't bad but the levels are just somehow generic except the skyscraper thing at the end had them try some ambitious tricks. You can actually fall to the ground from the top, there's the helicopter following around and some traps. Some people say the multi-level carage in part 3 was awesome or something and it's the most bland level.
The second game holds up to the end but the middle can maybe drag gameplay wise even tho the gameplay is more tense and challenging there.
Behold the Czech game on the Max Payne engine(Its not very good)
>>12713990Part of that is a lack of investment on your part, part of that is not appreciating the atmosphere of the docks which is fucking incredible, and part of that is that the mob guys are some of the most entertaining enemies to grace video games.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoddXdZxFkI
I remember this being the first game I beat on the hardest difficulty, because the game was so much fun I wanted to keep finding more to do. Only hard part was the Satan guy.
>>12714517The music was so repetitive
>>12713990The GBA version is one of my favorite retro demakes
>>12714517I never knew the Max-FX engine was handed outside the house. I wonder what they paid for it but I mean the engine obviously became immediately outdated fro Remedy once MP2 released when they started doing another more advanced one for Alan Wake.
>>12714545I think part 3 suffers how you can just use the pinpoint accurate colt commando for everything and half or more enemies have it too + more long range combat. They do introduce the jackhammer at one point which is limited but cool and closer to early part of the game where the guns aren't most accurate except deagle for some reason.
>>12714008I'm thinking the carage level could be salvaged if it ran other way around where you start from bottom and go up because fighting uphill is more challenging and you would also actually have to fight the black van with turrets. Even just a minimalistic fight but something. The source maps for levels have been reverse engineered the last I checked.
>>12715432And I know story wise no sense because BB is supposedly trying to flee but he's not even fleeing most of the time but actively waiting for you.
>>12713990Hmm… just realised that the name «Max Payne» might have a double meaning. It’s his name, but it might also have been meant as «Max Pain». As in Maximum Pain. If this is the case, it’s a cool hidden meaning made by the devs. Am I overthinking, or am I onto something here?It would be really cool if this hidden meaning would be found after so many years. But I’m probably reaching. It just seems to fit so well.
>>12716206They first registered the name Max Heat and 15 minutes later someone came up with Max Payne. There's an easter egg tv show/ad in MP2 where Max Heat is some porno.
