>>12714803>Why do some people hold this game (Final Fight) on a pedestal?>What makes it so different compared to other beat-em-ups?It more or less defined the genre going forward, before Final Fight most beat em ups were Double Dragon clones, post it, most took inspiration from Final Fight.
>>12714803Final Fight (1989, Capcom) is often placed on a pedestal as one of the most influential and definitive arcade games of its era, especially in the beat 'em up (or "brawler") genre. It didn't invent the side-scrolling fighter—games like Double Dragon, Renegade, and Kung-Fu Master came earlier—but it refined and popularized the formula so effectively that it became the template many later titles followed (and sometimes directly copied). ricedigital.co.uk
Gameplay-wise it's subpar. But graphically it was amazing for its time. Giant enemy sprites with high levels of detail blew away what else there was at the time. I remember seeing it in a run-down pizza place in like 1990 and the fight against Damnd is still burned into my mind. Keep in mind this was years before the SNES was available so going from NES graphics to arcade Final Fight was the first "the future is here" moment.

CPS1 games still hold up graphically, like NeoGeo games.>>12715039Going from NES Double Dragon graphics to Arcade Final Fight was like night and day.

>>12715054>Giant enemy sprites with high levels of detail blew away what else there was at the time. It's such a shame that subsequent FF games were straight to console. It resulted in FF2 and FF3 looking graphically inferior.
