I always loved Diablo 1 over all other entries.Did someone summarize what the lore in D1 was exuding the cringe trash they added later? I remember the lore being very obscure like they did not go into>Ah yes angels fights ....>And the battle of....Where Angels even mentioned in D1? It is truly a incredible game. Considering that the implications of someone called a witch being one of the good guys (D3 and later are not canon!) the world to me presented some questionable morality. Or maybe a situation where there are only humans and demons no angels no other bullshit and for a zillion % none of the "humans are le nephelim and stronger then angels and demons!!!111ONEONE" cringe!Did they exactly explain how demons worked in this time period? If not in the game in some extra materials like the manual or some books (before D2)?
>>12716431Can't remember angels being mentioned in D1, at least not in game. A lot, if not all, of the lore is probably in the manual (which I haven't read). Old Blizzard game lore is much more interesting, it gradually became more and more soap-opera-y starting with D2
>>12716431Basically same. I liked Diablo 2 as well, but it lacked a lot of what the first game had in this department (and some others). I did not think 3 looked good (and it did not sound good), so I avoided the rest of the series. The story and lore in 3 and beyond sounds utterly fucking brainfucked and cringe, and I just disregard their existence.>>12716534>Can't remember angels being mentioned in D1, at least not in game. One of the tomes uses the wording of "... while the forces of heaven were constantly battering upon the gates of hell." or something along those lines, so that feels like it'd allude to angels.
>>12716534the manual was an integral part of the experience, thoughbeitto this day I still think about that angel trapped in hell, in a hall of mirrors with his eyelids torn off, forced to watch his disfigured form for all eternity
>>12716592>The story and lore in 3 and beyond sounds utterly fucking brainfucked and cringe, and I just disregard their existence. Not only this. I tried to beat the game recently to experience the storry. It was beyond comical even in the late game and even when fighting diablo my attack does so much damage that boss voice lines about some lore shit get interrupted. I literally killed a boos before he was able to finish his lore dump by simply holding down the attack button!I was not mad grinding for 8h or some shit only walking and picking up items. That is a new level of faliure.>cringeNo really cringe however stupid (zoomers say anything that they do not like is cringe) you know you have the stupid power fantasy of humans actually being more powerful then demons however what really got me is that they retconed Adria.>AWCHUALLY SHE WAS ON DIABLOS SIDE ALL THIS TIME!>AWCHUALLY IT WAS ALL PART OF DIABLOS PLAN! This is what really got me! I mean they ruined the deep lore of the franchise. Here was a character that sounded like she is evil however was on the good side. Like this world did feel so interesting when I played D1 and did not know about the rest, like clearly the world was inspired by Christianity however they do not speak of god or even angels. And all of it did feel so dark and interesting.1/?
>>12716592>>12717089Here are some interpretations:1) God is not helping He exists however deal with demons on your own. Maybe god is only for moral and philosophical guidance while demon invasion is something you need to deal on your own? While simple it has some interesting theological implications that also mirror (and improve on!) real christian positions on demons and Satan. Basically instead of the standard Angels VS Demons clown show (no christian sect I know does this) instead of god getting angry and throwing out humans for eating a fruit and god cursing them.... What if humans with their original sin invited demons and Satan to enter paradise? And god is basically>You did think you are smarter now go and deal with satan/demons on your own.>You made this mess now live with itMaking what I like to call a darker version of Christianity, basically the cosmic equivalent of inviting a vampire into your home or doing something very stupid with your evil friend. There are some christian sects who go in directions similar to this.2) There is no god (there never was in diablo as I know) and there are no angels. There are only humans and demons of hell and us trying to deal with this. I think this is the most fascinating interpretation. I like the dark idea of it and it fits the dark world of D1 perfectly. Like all humans do is search for arcane knowledge how to deal with demons.2/3
>>12716592>>12717090>>12716734>ManualI did never read it since it did not come with my copy of the game . I like the idea of disfiguring an angel however this creates incredible problems and diminishes the demons in game. The same way you go wait what? After you learn about Hephaestus in Greek mythology. >Wit if we throw gods from tall mountains they will be crippled forever?>Is this all it takes to cripple a god?>Wait so we can kill gods with atom bombs then? Basically we are introduced to the idea that angels and presumably demons have faces who can be disfigured, they have a true body and body parts who can be removed. If it is possible to remove eyelids from an angel is it possible to destroy his eyes? Can we permanently blind demons? Even diablo? If yes how?Similar to the story of odysseus and the cyclops now it becomes a game how do we destroy the organs of these magic creatures. Diablo can be powerful however he is fucked once we destroy his eyes. This is the main problem if you introduce ideas like this. I was thinking that demons/diablo do not have areal body to destroy or cripple.
>>12716592>I liked Diablo 2I never liked D2. It is literally a generic story sabotaged by its own retarded gameplay and existing in a game engine who is not made for it to work.In D2 they basically make canon that humans are magic and stronger then demons and angels themselves. They do it by the fact that you are basically on a world tour to kill the prime evil demons. And you simply do that. Travel the world and kill ultra mega demons for fun!And it is real killing not fake killing like at the end of D1. >Yes go here and kill/capture Diablo>Congratulations Diablo is dead/captured in your pokeball! >Yes go here and kill/capture Baal>Congratulations Baal is dead/captured in your pokeball! >Yes go here and kill/capture Mephisto>Congratulations Mephisto is dead/captured in your pokeball! Undermines the horror idea and turns this into ultra demon lord slaying extravaganza all around the world. The biggest comedy that the expansion to Diablo 2 ... has literally no Diablo in it only his brother. In contrast D1 is about this 1 town who is going to hell. The title diablo refers to the 1 guy named diablo who is the final boss and that is it! Making diablo not literally satan the ruler of hell also helps in the narrative Imagine needing to deal with 1 powerful demon and there are others like him in the lore.1/3
>>12717173>>12716592D1 is also fundamentaly different it teaches you based on game play. There are many moments where the player will fuck himself over. My personal part was when the game spawned the gate to the next level right next to me. So I decided to simply walk to the end of the game ignoring all the monsters. And I got instantly killed because I was under leveled. This did teach me that you need to clear every level and kill every monster to get the XP! Not only this there is no D2 WOW bullshit where the monsters re-spawn and you can grind forever. No the monsters are 1 time. There is no possibility to grind. This also means that gold is limited and every potion you buy and use is not coming back. D1 Is not some retarded grind fest in sunny locations like D2.As for the atmosphere it is perfect. Imagine you enter a town 1 town that got literally hell opening under them, the dark night atmosphere. You get familiar with all the towns people and the towns layout. And all the shortcuts who open once you get deeper into the underground are in places most people who finished the game know by hart. This makes the place familiar to you. instead of you know>LOL Overlord of hell #2 killed/captured into pokeball lets move to a different location. LMFAO!With some random retarded other camp you will be staying in. Because of how resources work in D1 the fight against diablo is intense. And even if you "win" the game the ending makes clear that you did not really defeat diablo and live a cursed existence a dark ending for a game.In contrast D2 is your average power fantasy where killing a demon lord means killing him and you can simply grind like some autist for more XP and loot the same re-spawning monsters. On top of that D1 magic system is better then anything in the rest of diablo. There are no classes. There are only stats and if you have the stat to use a weapon you use it! This is interesting.2/3
>he won’t just shut the fuck up already
>>12717204>>12716592What I like about D1 is that it is the perfect blend of RPG and real game. Instead of wasting hours to grind to get that random drop of the sword who has bigger numbers only for the level of the monster to increase to a bigger number so you waste more time grinding for that random drop.... Others pointed out how boring and stupid these kinds of game are.The RPG element in D1 can not be grinded for XP or loot. It only exists in this perfect balance where it is hard however not to hard and lets you feel that the monsters on the deeper levels are more dangerous. PS: Also there is the comedy of D2 where the game tries to make a forest in a game engine that uses trees like walls in the jungle.
>>12717205Something about D1 and Blizzard in general brings about some weird ass spergs.
>>12717206>What I like about D1 is that it is the perfect blend of RPG and real game.I liked it too, and the atmosphere.D2 really went overboard with the grinding after LoD more specifically. Before LoD, gear was simpler, quest items were more useful, and enemy difficulty wasn't over the top. LoD added so much more stuff to grind for and then the synergy patch forced you to grind for that stuff too. D2 still had some odd design choices before LoD like no mana potions for sale and it still has old bugs that can mess up a game but I still enjoyed it more in some ways than later versions.
