well, the reason is that they looked at what people were doing in the original game, and what made it interesting, and then they intentionally layered more challenging additions and inversion of expectations to keep veteran players tense and new players scrambling. The extra effort with making the save room backtracks harder with red heads and surprise zombie attacks is the best illustration of this.

I expected to see female zombie maids or female zombies scientist, but no luck.- The only unlimited weapons you get after beating it are the infinite rocket launcher(too slow) and the infinite "samurai" pistol(too weal). Why there was not a infinite magnum like the one of the director cut version.- In the original game all the rooms had different colors, making them unique.In the remake, they all have gray colors making them look almost the same.- The crimson heads, instead of making the game challenging and different, they only made it more annoying.

The original had so many different paths / story sequences that could take place depending on the player's actions and decisions, that the vast majority of players never found them all on their own.Most of that is gone in the remake.
