After thoroughly enjoying Warioland II, I decided to play the first Warioland since I heard it was better than the second one. Unfortunately, I'm not having a good time with this game.
Most of my problems with the game revolve around Wario himself. First, he moves and jumps at a snail's pace; furthermore, the ability to take damage and shrink is quite annoying, especially when combined with the first issue. Compared to Warioland II, Wario in Super Mario Land 3 feels like a neutered version of Mario. Admittedly, the game does have 'MARIO' in the name, but that still doesn't change the fact that playing as Wario is not a fun time.
There are some parts of the game I do like, such as:
>Sprites
>Level design (for the most part)
>The hat system
But to me, they don't balance out the bad stuff. This is all just my opinion, and I can see why some people would enjoy this game. What are your thoughts on Warioland 1?

Wario being slower and bulkier made sense to me, dashing and tackling enemies was and and different, more aggressive than Mario games. Also ground pound.
I honestly feel like it's an amazing game.
I never played II though, or the others except for Virtual Boy Wario Land which I loved as well

I understand Wario feeling bulkier, but I personally think Warioland II was slightly better when it came to making Wario feel like a walking tank.
Perhaps I was too harsh when writing the original post

Warioland 2 is the best of the three. 3 is close, but annoying because it doles out your base abilities really slowly and makes you backtrack through the same levels repeatedly. 1 is just incredibly slow, clunky and boring, a really half baked concept that 2 got right.

Warioland 1 has short levels and you can move faster when you have the Flightcap. Or when you're charging.
