My first was a non-retro game, 11. I hated it. Went back and beat DQ1 on NES and loved it. Beat 2 and loved it even more. Just started 3.

III on a SNES emulator. Fucking peak JRPG imo.

I'm about 60 hours into VIII, on the bossfight with Doulmagus and I've realized that i just don't like it at all. The graphics, music, voice acting is great, but literally everything I like about III is gone and the gameplay is so much worse than the old ones. I hate the character progression system and have no motivation to grind. I hate the fucking alchemy pot with a burning passion and I hate that the combat is completely unplayable without a fast forward button and even then it's still sluggish.

This game badly needs a remaster. Not a remake, just a few QoL features to make it better without sacrifising the music like the 3DS version does.

Dragon Quest, the original, on Famicom
