one of the comfiest games ever made. Kinda sad that besides 3, nothing else in the series really compares, and even that game has a totally different appeal to it really. they tried to recreate the magic with 11, but failed. 1 2 and good but prototypes. 4 I havent tried yet, but having an AI party sounds awful. 5 I dropped out of sheer boredom, interesting start followed by a slogfest with nothing but weak monster party members. 6 has an amazing first half but bad second half. 7 is the most bloated game ever made. 9 and 10 are multiplayer slop.

3 and 8 are the only ones that nail everything, and only 8 has the production values, characters and story that elevate it into one of the comfiest jrpgs ever made. Discuss the best DQ.

8 is the worst retro DQ game
tedious movement, slow ass battles, bland characters, boring story....
it was baby's first DQ for fags like you that's why you are blinded by nostalgia

7 > 6 > 4 > 5 > 3 > 2 > 1 >>>>> 8

Not OP, how bad is the intro sequence in 7? I’m asking in good faith, not as a troll.

I hear it’s an amazing game, but the intro before it opens up is a slog.
>>
>>12720843
It was fairly boring.
The fact that it never got rereleased on steam speaks volumes.
>>
>>12721059
the intro is immersive and comes with interesting puzzle sequences, this boggles the mind og the Jarpig who can't fathom spending a couple of hours without enemy ecnounters
>>
>>12721062
There was the 3DS port obviously, but handheld games seldom get PC or console releases like that.

Dragon Quest XII was built was multi-plat from the get-go, and they made the extra effort to incorporate the 3DS content into the "S" version later on.
>>
>>12721074
Thanks for letting me know
>>
>>12720843
I dont even like jrpg's but this game hooked me. The artsyle, characters, fun battles and simplicity kept me playing until I finished it. It actually got me into jrpg's and i ended up playing a bunch of them
>>
>>12720843
I wouldn't listen to the opinions of someone as ignorant as you.

>Dragon Quest XI was built was multi-plat from the get-go, and they made the extra effort to incorporate the 3DS content into the "S" version later on.
S didn't have the 3DS "chibi mode", and it also didn't have the alternae graphical styles for when in the old DQ games (S just uses the same DQ6/7 style for all of them).

Which dragon quest is the one where your given clues about where to go next and if you figure it out based on the clues it doesn’t work. But if you find the random npc that solves the clue for you it does work. Like they’ll tell you to go somewhere with a lot of sand and so you go to the desert you just passed and nothing happens and then you talk to an npc that doesn’t even have a unique model and they’ll be like “the desert has a lot of sand” and then you go to the desert and the game can progress. I think it’s also the one where you play over an hour before your first combat and you’re restoring island through time travel.
>>
>>12721241
Sounds like 7
>>
>>12721248
Thank you!
>>12721007
Hey asshole, fuck you. 7 sucks.
>>
>>12721059
its the opposite. the intro is actually interesting and by far the best part of the game. the slog is the 90 hour macguffin hunt that comes after it.
>>
>>12721241
thats 7, but 6 also has a lot of that "you MUST talk to multiple NPCs in this exact order to progress!!" bullshit. Shame because 6 is the coolest game in the series in many ways but has some seriously retarded design that brings it down, and then 7 doubles down on all the bad stuff from 6 but without the good qualities.
>>
>>12721007
I agree on 8 but your list is retarded as fuck, 7 and 4 suck harder than 8

8 is aaa slop.
-No difficulty.
-Dungeons are worse than pokemon caves.
-Game is only known for production values.
-Terrible level up system.
-Boring characters.Yeah the underage redhead sorcerer is hot,but that is it.
-Exploration is not rewarding.
-Crafting is boring and makes a easy game easier.

I can go on,typical 6th gen l level 5 overrated garbage.
>>
>>12721527
that redhead slut is not even hot, Goku faced bitch the only reason subhuman coomers like her is the big tits
DQ8 is really a coomer-core slop, they even replaced the mini medals king with a coomer bait, Level 5 have no shame

A good game like all Dragon quest but damn what a downgrade in terms of scope, writting and battle system compared to 7

The beginning of the casualisation

You know, there's a big difference in how you design a game with a close-up 3D camera and a 2D top-down grid-based game. You can go wilder on the 2D game because the player can make his own map quite accurately, but in the 3D game you need to make the player aware of his location at all times so they don't get lost.
>>
>>12722065
>but in the 3D game you need to make the player aware of his location at all times so they don't get lost.
COPE
SMT jump into 3D with Nocturne had amazing well designed dungeons
meanwhile in Slop Enix games like DQ8 and FF10 the deungeons are linear corridors
>>
>>12721007
Fucking put these 8 babies in their place. Most of them didn't even want 8 they wanted the FF12 demo and just decided to play the game attached to it. 8 is fucking garbage surrounded by games in the series with class systems and choices. No game has been as barren as 8 since 5. Even 11 with pre-defined no class change gameplay actually has build choices other than pick one of 3 categories in a list and get something at some point. It's bottom tier DQ garbage that you can immediately out someone as not a fan of DQ if they love this one in particular

I don't keep saves of shit games.
>>
>>12722374
>Most of them didn't even want 8 they wanted the FF12 demo
This. Square-Enix had to dangle a demo for the newest FF game just to get the West to even notice DQ for the actual first time.

kys mudblood
>>
>>12722835
Kinda like how they dangled a free DQ1 with Nintendo Power subscriptions for you geriatrics.
>>
>>12723157
That was only because they manufactured too many copies and didn't want to repeat what happened to all that unsold stock of Atari E.T., but once Final Fantasy hit the US, "Dragon Warrior" was seen as inferior in comparison. That attitude kept going for decades and still does to a point.

I jumped from III to VIII and my god is it a massive downgrade. Going from an actual party based RPG with multiclassing to this garbage is such a black pill. I’m 60 hours in so I kind of need to finish it but I can’t say I was having fun. It’s a game I put on while I’m doing something else. If I try to actually focus on it I feel like I’m in detention again.

Which one should I try next? I tried a bit of VI but gave up on that stupid ghost castle. I could pick it up again. Do any of them touch III or did I just start with the best one?
>>
>>12723640
You started with the best one yes but 7 is great too
>>
I play V on my phone from time to time.
It's comfy.
>>
III gets sucked off by everyone since it was such a big jump from I and II but IV is simply better. The AI controlled party members only really matter in chapter 5 and they're rather interesting, even advanced for the NES, in how they learn and remember strategies for each monster while showcasing each character's different personalities.
There's a romhack that gives you manual control and every remake does the same.
>>
>>12722368
Nocturne also had GRID MAPS for their dungeons.
So did Persona 1, 3, 4 and 5 that I know of. Never played 2.
>>
>>12723979
Persona 2 is such a fucking bitch when it comes to dungeons, not because they are bad, they are your typical SMT dungeons with traps, teleporters, etc and are remotely large and complex but they suck because the game's camera is fucking shit, your character is too big, the camera is too close, rotating the camera will only make you get lost easier too
>>
>>12723640
>I tried a bit of VI but gave up on that stupid ghost castle
that's 5 with the kiddy ghost castle shit, it's reddit slop
6 is kino for adults
>>
>>12720843
random encounters make it insufferable to play
>>
I know people hated the 3ds version but it was comfy playing it
>>
>>12722368
>SMT jump into 3D with Nocturne had amazing well designed dungeons
You got a point there, it's amazing how smt3 feels like a great third person blobber
>>
>>12720843
Play 11 with draconian quests, no vendors, harder monsters, etc. it makes the game feel like a solo mmo, you actually have to farm a bit and engage with crafting gear. It's comfy
