The NES version is better and more iconic. Fuck Kojima.
For me, it's Snake's Revenge.
>>12721814>Average nintendie take
The real backlash only began later, when MGS took off in popularity and the sayings of Kojima about it started circulating. As late as 1997, magazines like EGM were still praising NES Metal Gear as one of the best 35 games of all time, which is wild.NES Metal Gear sold over a million copies, it was definitely not considered a bad game. And it's not like Metal Gear was an established franchise so it's not that people only bought it it for the name.
dont bother with it. play mg2 instead
So why am I supposed to hate NES MG? Please remind me.
>>12722185The entire intro sequence was tacked onto the NES version which doesn't exist in the MSX version. So you just wander around the jungle fighting dogs instead of just starting out at the entrance of the base. It's pointless
>>12722185You don't actually get to fight Metal Gear in the NES version which is kinda of lame. I think another boss is missing as well.
>>12722263Technically, you don't fight it in the original game, either. You blow it up before it's activated and the only defense it has is a pair of laser cameras.
>>12722268It's still a pretty cool battle. You have to plant the plastic explosives in a particular sequence to destroy it.
>>12721814>The NES version is better and more iconic. Fuck Kojima. It's not better in any way, it's basically the same game but with a lower color palette and removed parts, like the final fight of the fucking game.Should have gone for something more sensical, like Contra.
>>12722029Hell yeah, son.
>>12722291Based>>12722286You either haven't played NES MG, MSX MG, or neither.NES MG is not "the same game with removed parts", it's a different game with the same setting
>>12722286If you wanna see something truly awful though check out the PC or C64 ports. The NES version is at least playable, those were pure jank
>>12722308DELETE THIS
>>12721928>As late as 1997, magazines like EGM were still praising NES Metal Gear as one of the best 35 games of all timeThey would have rated Metal Gear even higher if they played it on the MSX. In isolation, the NES version is not a terrible game, but it exists in the context of being a strictly inferior version of something much better. If you are passionate about a thing and want to share it, it's very frustrating seeing people experience a cheap imitation of that thing and think they've gotten the real experience. I think that's why bad remakes cause such vitriol.
>>12721814MG1 barely even exists anymore. MGS might as well be the start of the series. In other words no one gives actually a shit which version is better. People are only posting in this thread to push back against entropy.
>>12722669I see it the other way around, it's kinda sad that because of people knowing that the NES MG is deemed like an inferior port it's completely ignored nowadays. As a MG fan I say both MSX and NES are worth playing.NES MG is not "the msx game with less content", it's an entirely different game in terms of level design. Basically Metal Gear Gaiden, if you will.
>>12722683I've only played Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid 2.
>>12721814troll or mental illness
>>12721814>tendie shilling for a shit non-canon game just because he hates Kojima because he raped Nintendo 64 and GameCube with MGS and MGS2
>>12725021Based console war-coded anon
>>12722683>MG1 barely even exists anymore. MGS might as well be the start of the series.I agree. I tell everyone who wants to start in the MGS games to just start at MGS1 and work your way up by release date. Or literally any game released after MGS1 at least. MG1 and MG2 are basically proto versions of their superior brothers. I would say visit the original MG games if you're a big fan who just wants to explore what those games were like back then.
>>12725312MGS is the casualized cinematic demake of the superior Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
>>12721814It certainly has better music, but it's also easy mode of an easy game>>12722237It's a tutorial segment teaching you how mechanics work, but I guess it was too subtle
>>12722304it's about 80% the same gameouting yourself like that, embarrasing...
>>12725985No, they are significantly different. The NES version of Metal Gear is not a direct port and alters far too much to be considered "80% the same." While the core concept and some general building maps remain, the pacing, layouts, and entire structure were heavily modified by the development team.Key differences in level design and structure include:The Jungle Infiltration: The NES version adds an entirely new jungle maze sequence right at the beginning, which isn't present in the MSX game.Building Count: The MSX version features only three main buildings, whereas the NES version expands this to five by rearranging and transplanting basement floors into standalone areas. The Maze Sections: The NES version incorporates a confusing, Lost Woods-style maze in the outdoor sections to pad out gameplay, requiring players to guess the correct paths.
>>12726085>Key differences in level design and structure include:
>>12725312>MG1: Snake infiltrates Outer Heaven, destroys Metal Gear, and kills Big Boss (though he survives because he either had a body double or he's rebuilt as a cyborg)>MG2: Snake infiltrates Zanzibar Land, destroys another Metal Gear, fights Grey Fox to the death, and kills Big Boss (for real this time, or at least for much longer)That's all the MSX games amount to in the greater Kojima lore nowadays.
>>12727259>>MG2: Snake infiltrates Zanzibar Land, destroys another Metal Gear, fights Grey Fox to the death, and kills Big Boss (for real this time, or at least for much longer)also Miller and Campbell were there
>>12721928I was alive back then, there was a "buy Metal Gear" ad in every single magazine, TV Guide, even normie shit my mom got like Cosmopolitan and posters all over every gas station and grocery store, designed to ride the Terminator/Aliens wave of success. Probably the most heavily advertised video game of all time.
>>12721814Sensei Hideo isn't hearing you because he doesn't care about some NES port of his work from 40 years ago.
>>12721814>Contrarian AI thread opener GO!
>>12728837Hideo doesn't care about anything other tham being friends with hollywood people and fucking western girls(male)
>>12725021GameCube has the Kojima approved definitive version of mgs1, the twin snakes
>>12728856
Playing through the MSX version of 1 right now and just beat a tank boss and so far the game has been really boring at best and super frustrating at worst. Completely stuck trying to find a costume, so when I play it next I guess I just have to completely back track through the entire game.
>>12721814Jeff Gerstmann says it's better than MGS1
>>12729307I could see a case being made that it was better for its time, but even as someone who played MG1 first that's still a bit of a stretch.MG1 was just a cool game with an interesting progression that wasn't typical of its time but MGS1 is the definition of a landmark game.
