>is basically Max Payne but in the wild west
>and has more content, multiple playable characters (almost 50 in the multiplayer mode) and lots of replay value
>still one of Rockstar's lesser known titles
How come? It is because no PC port?
You'd think being the first game in the Red Dead series would make the game popular, but the game seems to be less popular than Bully

It wasn't really a rockstar game, it kind of just got rolled in when rockstar bought angel studios who were making the game for capcom. It got shelved, rockstar ended up buying the rights from capcom so they finished it up and released it then it didn't sell too well. Midnight Club was making money so angel studios got relegated to making midnight club games. They only went back to red dead after midnight club stopped selling and the games are hardly related at all outside of a similar name and setting. I think rockstar would prefer if people didn't remember it.

That's just not true.

Now that you mention it, the game kind of remind me of God Hand. The art style is similar, and some bosses does share the similar absurd tone
>I think rockstar would prefer if people didn't remember it.
I mean, you can still buy and play the game on modern consoles

The level design ain't the same, but it's still a third person shooter where you can slow down time, and levels are mission based

People didnt really dig the way it played, compared to what else was out at the time. Its better that way though I think, it deserves to remain niche while its title carried on to fame.

You forgot to mention you move terribly slow. I hate Dead to Rights, but that has more of a claim of being a Max Payne game than RDR.

>and levels are mission based

Well RDR has a few hub segments, making it further not like Max Payne

I bought this for my PS2, never played it yet. Should I play it? That would mean I have to connect some cables, do some other jazz... what a pain.

It's not terrible, but you should whip out your PS2 for an actually good western game like Samurai Western.

I have enjoyed Way of the Samurai since it came out, I have II as well but haven't played it. I just got it like a decade ago before prices for everything went to crazy town.

That's as samurai western as you get.

Arenas with bullet sponge enemies just gets old after a while. I like the game but they could have changed up some of the levels
>>
Because it sucks. Boring levels and shit gameplay.

Played it on release and still remember it fondly, especially the soundtrack

This, kek. Sounds like the way I'd try to sell it as a "good game" back when I cared about whether or not people thought I had good taste. It's no more like Max Payne than Red Dead Redemption is like Max Payne.

But I digress, I really loved RDR. It's an oddly comfy game with a great art style and satisfying arcadey gunplay. Has a great OST as >>12722293 points out as well. Never got a chance to play it multiplayer, though I imagine it was probably a lot of fun.
