This game is unfairly hated on, same with Final Fantasy III. I think there is a hypocrisy here, people love and view the original FF as a masterpiece despite it sharing similar flaws with the 2 games after it. Unbalanced, broken spells and mechanics, etc. I think for what they are, they changed the genre for good and pushed the limitations of their respective hardware and all deserve appreciation. 2 especially was the first truly strong JRPG narrative for the franchise, it was cool how developers back then experimented with every new game and didn't want to overuse the same formula that clicked the first time. Retro will always be superior because old game developers experimented, which is why the criticism of games like this nowadays seem very unfair when we're so spoilt for game options and mechanics.

Every Final Fantasy is worth playing, every Dragon Quest, If youve heard of the game then its worth playing. If someone is attempting to denigrate a video game around here there is an almost certainty that they are arguing in bad faith or misguided intent to where they think only 1 game needs to exist on earth, presumably so they dont have to play anything and can just argue on the internet.

Overcuration leads to not being able to appreciate what makes the best things good, since you don't have the point of reference for how good ideas go wrong. There are plenty of games that are varying degrees of bad but have great ideas that wouldn't be refined until sometimes decades later, which makes those cases where they later get perfected that much more impressive. People trying to treat enjoyment from a clinical lens are fucking miserable.
