People either love it or absolutely despise it
>>12722531I have never played a quake game, as a zoomer I am more accustom to Team Fortress Classic
>>12722540>zoomer>playing team fortress classic
>>12722543Shit is fun as fuck, played it with my dad all the time. I wonder how the game is doing these days
>>12722531The level design is boring, the game looks drab, you feel aimless going from one area to the next, there are only so many brown corridors you can go through before you get sick of the color. The enemies are not as fun as the first.I honestly don't get how anyone can like it.
>>12722531At least everyone can agree it has the best soundtrack of the series
>>12722558>brown corridorsIsn't Quake 1 even more brown and colorless?
Level design is absolute shit. Too cluttered. Too many boxes, containers, stupid nonsensical mechanisms and machines made of three-four polygons and other useless trash.
>>12722531I like the game in it's entirety, the campaign was somewhat static and monotone though. You hardly ever hear the voice of another human except in the intro (?), most objectives are just press this button, get this card, backtrack and use card to open door. I still love the game but the campaign could have been better.
>>12722531My biggest complaint is that every level looks the fucking same.Seriously, it feels like there are about 8 different textures in the whole fucking game. It looks the same from start to finish.
>>12722569It's got a palette with lots of de-saturated blues, oranges, and greens, and to be fair, Quake 2 has a lot of color in it as well: If your only memory of Quake 2 is playing it on software mode without all those colored lights everywhere, then yeah it's a very grey and brown game.Something that they're both lacking - regardless if it makes sense or otherwise - is the lack of anything relatable, anything "lived in": You'll go through Quake 1 without a single chair, table, bookshelf, bed...Quake 2 mostly continues that trend with a few exceptions.
>>12722531There's nothing polarizing about it. People who enjoy games for superficial reasons like it. People who enjoy games for gameplay do not.
it had good mods and multiplayer
>>12722531I don't love it nor absolutely despise it.I think it's fine.>>12722609>most objectives are just press this button, get this card, backtrack and use card to open doorThat's exactly the same formula for all previous id fps.
Has anyone made a re-texturing project that makes the levels look a little less like they were designed for a software renderer with a highly limited color palette?
>>12722609You're constantly hearing radio chatter, what the hell are you talking about
>>12723771Wut? Radio chatter is extremely rare.
Only literal trannies from the quake 1 community spread this bullshit, quake 2 was such a huge release followed by early stuff that it was nearly impossible to beat, it took battlezone to dethrone the mp for a while til unreal HL1 and quake 3 took over a year after. The console ports that had cut stuff also did great.
id turned to shit after Bromero leaving but Q2's multiplayer is outstanding.
>>12722562Agreed, Rez's garbage "atmospheric" bullshit on the first game's soundtrack fucking sucked
>>12724759I loved both soundtracks. You can't deny Rez's is super creepy and Quake 2's is badass.
Played it twice on the Ps, but strangely never cared to play the pc campaign, there was always new custom stuff to play. Played Ground Zero twice though, and it still was hard the second time around.
>>12722558>>12722558>The level design is boring, the game looks drab, you feel aimless going from one area to the next, there are only so many brown corridors you can go through before you get sick of the color. That literally describes Quake 1
>>12725603Yes it does to a degree, but it still has more variety in levels, caves, dungeons, castles and scifi bases but is just way more visually interesting, better level design and the enemies are more fun to fight against.Quake 2 is just scifi bases only and the enemies are mostly just very straight forward.
>>12724759Absolute shit taste, thanks for letting everyone know what a faggot you are. I'd ask you to post something that you like, but I don't care to hear your gay opinions further.
>>12725635I love Reznor's soundtrack just like I love Doom 64's soundtrack. But I can understand that dark ambient could be alienating and unpleasant to a lot of normies.
Quake II is fun. Gibbing enemies and corpses is satisfying. The setting is potent sci-fi horror. The super shotgun is one of the best ones in classic boomer shooters (you can run up to heavy enemies, crouch down, look up, and shoot, which will punch so hard that the enemy is lifted up from the ground). And the levels are pretty funThe only real downside is that the final boss can be cheesed so easily because the game handles pickups as inventory items. Previous id games had everything activate instantly. But here, you can collect quad damage and invulnerability. So just activate those for the final fight, hit him with the BFG a few times, and his different forms are smoked. But, the easy-to-find developer Easter egg after the fight is pretty hilarious
>>12725625>Quake 2 is just scifi bases only and the enemies are mostly just very straight forward.Quake 1's lacking anything resembling an "archvile" archtype whereas Quake 2 has the medic. Q2 also has a more varied mix of avoidable and non-avoidable hitscan, more engaging bosses than Cthon and Shub-Niggurath, and a wider enemy roster in general.Beyond Q1's initial techbase levels, their levels and environments are similarly varied and run into the same problems: >>12723364>>12726209>The only real downside is that the final boss can be cheesed so easily because the game handles pickups as inventory items.Ground Zero's final boss had a fun solution to this, provided you played on the higher difficulties.
