Is there any game that has a better understanding of the human condition, a more nuanced philosophical take on life, or a better commentary on the world in which we live?A game to be cherished. A game to play in times of joy and in grief. An intergenerational game that you can share with your children and they with their own. A game that isn't just a game, but a lifestyle, a religion.
>>12726061Xenogears a shit
>>12726061just treasure games in general if you look at the deeper lore (which goes past actual game plots most of the time)
>>12726140Idk, I made this post ten seconds before firing the game up the first time. I was just doing my best to imitate how people on /vr/ and Reddit talk about it. I had to stop and take a break during the opening cutscene because it was too obnoxious. Maybe I'll get into it. I got like 10 hours into Xenosaga two months ago before forgetting that it exists (I still plan on finishing it at some point).
Ignoring the OP's bait and sarcasm, yes, if you actually stop to analyze it seriously, it turns out that the deep dive it does is immense. Unfortunately, modern communities stop at the taxonomy ("wow, it quotes X, so it must be deep!") instead of reflecting on the actual meaning ("what purpose does X serve in the narrative?"). It's a genuinely unlucky work, because those who read ignore or snob it out of hand for status, while those who play it likely praise it for superficial reasons.>>12726140This distinction between lore and plot is fundamentally wrong to me, but regardless, it doesn't exist in Xenogears, all the worldbuilding is in service of the story's themes and the characters
>>12726061I've been looking for a retro game luke you've described. Some close calls but not quite there, although Xenogears is still in my backlog
>>12726061Huh???????????
