Why is Soulcalibur 1 so highly regarded?
>>
It's good.
>>
It was basically the first 3d fighting game that felt amazing to play with a combo of killer graphics and being super big at the sunset of arcades. The fgc crowd will probably tell you that SC2 was bigger but I honestly don't remember anything about sc2. But I do remember Sc1 being everywhere and everyone talked about it
>>
Because Namco made it.
>>
>>12727627
Namco is and always will be the face of arcade gaming.

II had even better T&A.
I hate to admit it, but I used to have fantasies of Link dicking Sophie
>>
>>12727547
It was a good fighting game, had a ton of content, looked breathtaking (really drove the Dreamcast as a next gen platform), and had animation quality unseen before. You could spend hours just looking at the individual character demonstrations in the theater, because it looked like actual shaolin monks performing the moves. On top of that all it also played very well and the 8-way move system made it more "3D" than other games before, except maybe it's immediate predecessor, soul blade.

My only complaint is that it lacks "fast" attacks, even the quickest moves has a lot of windup so it feels a bit slow sometimes. And that I still don't know what the fuck if any is the point of the Soul Charge move, especially as it has two versions (normal red glow, and if you cancel it with block it turns to a golden glow, but both of those are so short that because of the aformentioned windup, you can't use it for anything but the quickest weakest singular poke attack).

It's okay because Link is (You), that's why he's called "link"
>>
>>12727547
smooth controls, easy to pick up, movement isnt behind an unintuitive execution barrier like in Tekken
>>
>>12727734
>And that I still don't know what the fuck if any is the point of the Soul Charge move
damage boost, makes some moves guard break or go straight unblockable, applies counterhit properties on normal hit

ah, also, one more thing I forgot: the sequels all sucked. They kept making the character designs more and more retarded and added nothing to the gameplay, and didn't necessarily looked better until the x360 anyway. The guest characters were, um, let's just say they could be a bit out of place.

But I guess that's what happens when you reach perfection on the first (technically second) attempt.

VI was pretty good.

>reversal edge
no thank you
>>
>>12727757
Completely fine when playing the single-player modes, which is what SC is all about.
>>
>>12727746
I know that's what the manual says but I mean how do you practically use it during a fight. It lasts bugger all if you don't let the animation complete (and leaves you wide open if you do) so it feels completely pointless. As far as I know the only legitimate use is in mission mode where some missions come with dumbass limitations like you can only do damage by counters or your life drains nonstop but you recharge it via soul charge.

In actual fights it's basically a taunt.

Fighting games are just the boss rush mode of beat 'em ups.
What do you do when you want to play but have no one to play it with at the present moment? You deny yourself the game entirely?
>>
>>12727962
soulcalibur is not an e-sports slop franchise. it's always been about fun singleplayer with rpg mechanics and casual versus matches

yes, I would rather not play a fighting game at all than waste my time playing a fighting game single-player.

That's disgusting, NTRfags go to hell, Link would never cheat on his wife like that

That's it. It's carried by that.

Soul Edge is a great game with or without people to play. Do you want to play it or do you want social interaction?
Cuck.
>>
>>12727547
Because of great gameplay, incredible graphics for the time, and a overall polished and luxurious experience.
>>
>>12728064
zero fighting games are great single-player.
zero.
>>
>>12728064
I want to play a fighting game. And by that I don't mean i want to mash buttons against a dumb bot that can't implement any real strategy or be conditioned.
people who play fighting games single player are sad, sad people who don't understand the genre.
>>
>>12727979
>>12728064
Based real gamers.
>>
>>12728259
>bot that can't implement any real strategy or be conditioned
And what differs it from any other videogame with bots to fight against? You could always have AI that responds immediately to your inputs but then you'd complain about it cheating anyway
>>
>>12728542
i'd rather not play quake 3 arena or rocket league or any other number of competitive multiplayer-focused games at all than play solo against bots.
what a sad, solipsistic existence.
>>
>>12727547
Because it was not just an ARCADE PERFECT PORT, but also BETTER. Not even the expensive Neo Geo AMS carts achieved that.

In the end, the final result was a big surprise: the perfect example to by a DC because it looked like a real next gen game.
>>
>>12727757
... is total garbage and never used in competitive play, especially after they nerfed it because casuals like you kept whining about.
>>
>>12728584
>competitive multiplayer-focused games
This doesn't apply to SoulCalibur, unlike most fighting games.
>>
>>12728584
>a sad, solipsistic existence
Such as yours for being so dependent. If you have a fetish for denying yourself over something so inconsequential, that's your problem.
>>
>>12728749
you're retarded.
>>12728752
the only thing I'm denying myself is the privilege of doing something I don't enjoy, like play against dumb bots in games where the fun is found in multiple human intelligences trying to outwit each other.
you're weird as fuck.
>>
>>12727801
It changes the effects of some attacks like Anon said
For example an attack that normally just hits might launch when soul charged, etc
Of course if you're playing casually it doesn't matter as much
>>
>>12727805
Tekken did not have weapon users. SC just looked more impressive with its animation, just look at Kiliks or Maxis theater demo.

SC had some of the most ridiculous attack inputs too, way more insane than even Akira's Stun Palm.

Yeah it had one, who fights mostly by punching and kicking or using the sword as a helicopter or a suicide move.

And that same character is also in SC.
