Original on Famicom for the original experience that started the phenomenon.SFC and GBC remakes for replays.I still haven't played the NES one, but I didn't like the sprite changes, even if they added the different facing directions (btw choosing the direction from the menu was soulful)

NES (and presumably Famicom) version has the best-looking monsters across all Dragon Quest games ever - all versions, all platforms.
I like the NES versions best, but that's what I grew up with so I'm biased. Really they are all pretty good and fun to play.

The Dragon Quest+ fan remake is great imo
Dragon Warrior 1 & 2 on the GBC was what I grew up with, therefore it is the best version.
