UUUHHH ROMS????
Post the roms faggots. I know one of you niggers have them already
I cannot believe how good they are. If these two were launch titles Virtual Boy might've sold a handful more units lol.It really does piss me off cause they really could've kept it as their third pillar if they had weathered the storm like they did with the 3ds.
>>12731513not that i'll ever check it out but it's nice that nintendo is using its tens of billions in cash on projects that aren't expected to make huge returns. because there's no way there was enough interest in these to justify making them

>>12731667What, the two newly released games? Those were completed in the mid 90's and just sitting in their archives.
>>12731640Impossible that racing game is any good. Navigation in Red Alarm sucked and the racing game is pretty much the same shit just worse since you can't turn around.

>>12731680I obviously haven't played it all the way through yet but from a few races it works really well. Red Alarm is a joke in comparison. You don't really need to turn around and moving up and down aren't that relevant. It surprisingly works well.

So no one uploaded the nsp for the latest update for the virtual boy app, and naturally no one extracted the roms using a switch emulator. But idiots and grifters have been already advertising some fpga stuff or a meister core for the virtual boy, coincidentally today, just to have a yuzu moment and enrage nintendo.Don't be the sucker who uploads the rom first here as the world premiere and then gets doxed to Nintendo's lawyers, if you have interesting things to share do it elsewhere on some pastebin or equivalent and it will find its way here eventually almost immediately but at least it won't be you. Don't share it it on your favourite semi obscure rom site (or at least wait a while) because it will be shared to hell by normies and meet the same fate as myrient one way or another.Remember to dump all regions of the rom just in case.>>12731693Neat surprise that they didn't desecreate the title screen just because they lost the trademark, it's beautiful. Didn't expect Nintendo's jumping flash.

>>12731898I wouldn't call it basic, the controls will filter the vast majority of people.

It was planned to be released about a week or two ago but some issues were found so it was delayed, they were not waiting for the NSO update to release it, nobody even knew the games were coming today until Nintendo made a surprise announcement about it a few days ago. Nobody was sharing roms on the mister Discord either.>>12731894>So what they just sat on two completely finished games for 30 years?Yup, they basically did the same with the finished version of Star Fox 2 as well, and likely have others we don't even know about too. The Gigaleak showed they archive the shit out of their stuff, even what were barely running tech demos. Some of the 30 year old never used sprites found in that leak ended up being used in Super Mario Maker 2 IIRC.
>>12731918>The Gigaleak showed they archive the shit out of their stuff, even what were barely running tech demos. It's still crazy that they held on to random assets from almost two years before the Super Nintendo was even out. And that pic related was one of the first things ever made for what would become the SNES. And that they held onto beta builds from other developers like Konami and Capcom.
>>12731923Wasn't aware of that one, I recall a bunch of Sim City graphics that included Toad smoking among other things.

>>12731640It pisses me off that the gay ass subscription is the only official way to play them. Now im going to have to get a flashcart just to play them as intended.
>>12732417At least Nintendo didn't encrypt the roms, unlike what M2 did for all the new ports they put on the Genesos Mini
>>12731936I hate very specifically the retards with social media access who chose that timing to talk about the virtual boy as if they want to maximise the chances to get a kotaku article "if you want to piss off nintendo, here's the latest hot tips about the surviving emulation solutions and rom sites and communities they haven't shut down yet, so that you avoid buying nintendo's overpriced junk", endless videos with "fuck nintendo", until senpai notices them and goes scorched earth like with what happened with the entire switch emulation landscape after the zelda totk media circus.Nintendo being shit is all the more the reason not to help their legal department notice your favorite place or leak sources. You're practically begging them to shut it down that way. That's not a matter of opinion, any rom site that's not gatekept or gets press exposure in any way is on borrowed time.>>12732491That's another example of what poking the bear too hard does. They were not particularly against emulation but what enraged them was that they were planning a repro cart for some master system game but not only was the digital rom everywhere online, some low iq mongrel produced repro carts competing with m2's collector thing. So they stopped supporting original hardware altogether and put all sorts of anti-emulation drm in the games on top of the drm (which nintendo technically has, but is useless due to switch emulation exposing everything)
>>12731513what a shitload of fuck
>>12732565M2 honestly should have tried to get their own official carts made. Obviously obsessed retro gamers are going to go that route regardless, might as well give them what they want and cash-in on it.
Holy shit Zero Racers is loud on original hardware.
D-Hopper feels like a game that should have gotten a chance at release. It's such a good use of the VB's depth rendering and actually makes the game fun.
There's more than four vehicles but no one knows how to get the other four yet (apparently this was done by fucking around with the game's FRAM so they may be cut cars or may not).
>>12732303>3DSnobody cares about your 300 dollar hunk of shit

>dig VB out of storage>plug it in>left eye slot is going schizo>hit it>it works
>>12732784100% of Virtual Boys had a design flaw where the glue deteriorates and the data ribbon for each eye comes loose. It'll fuck up again with the slightest movement.
>>12732168Works great on New 3DS.
>>12732790I paid SAG to fix mine. Not ideal but that is definitely not something I'm getting into when I heard you can fuck up the optics for good if you're not careful.
Zero Racers on Master is fucking insane. There's no goddamn way anybody was beating this on original hardware without giving themselves a seizure.
>>12732491>At least Nintendo didn't encrypt the romsIronically Nintendo, unlike SEGA and Capcom of today, seems to understand that it's pointless when outside of very rare instances such as this the roms for the games in their NSO service have been available for 30 years anyway and it's just throwing money away on something that 99% of people won't even bother with vs just downloading them online, and even if they did people could just emulate the entire Switch to get at them.... that or they're just lazy. They do seem to instantly stop giving a crap about piracy on a system as soon as they consider it obsolete, that happened with the 3DS, Wii, and WiiU.
>>12732784The Virtual Boys were practically prototype level hardware, they never sold long enough to have proper hardware revisions. The ribbon cable for the displays is literally glued on, and now since it's been over 30 years the glue is wearing out. Usually this results in a display either not working at all, being pure red, or having lines all over it. Generally you need to fix it by soldering the ribbon cables on, there are kits to make this easier. There is a mod called the "Virtual Ribbon" that converts the setup to using proper ribbon cable connectors, and an additional small 3D printed add-on for it called the EZ Mount that just makes soldering it on easier, especially if you aren't super skilled in soldering. Plenty of videos showing it being installed both with and without the EZ Mount.
>>12733063As someone who has installed these once I would say these are... I dont want to say expert... but they are tedious to get soldering correctly. There is another replacement that is more permanent called eyepatches that you just solder a new ribbon directly on the pcb that is supposedly way easier, I havent tried those yet though to say for sure.
>>12733063>The ribbon cable for the displays is literally glued on, and now since it's been over 30 years the glue is wearing out#1 using glue is industry standard#2 a cheap electronic toy for children lasting for 30 years without any maintenance is somehow bad?god you are retarded
>>12733045>that happened with the 3DSThey added ownership checks to the CDN in 2018, though.
>>12733113Why are you talking to him that way?Are YOU retarded? Using glue is not an industry standard you fucking retard. Industry standard is using flex ribbon sockets.Dont ever come back here or I will slap you
>>12733113>gluing ribbon cables on is totally industry standardgod you are retarded>derp, it's a toyFunny how no other "toy" from Nintendo has a problem of ribbon cables separating because they were in proper connectors instead of being glued on
>>12732764Are you implying the new stands work with the original systems? Because that crossed my mind as well as only reason i would buy that new one.
>>12731513I thought this was them rereleasing the actual Virtual Boy
>>12733160Yeah, they do. I got confirmation before I bought one.
It makes me so sad playing Virtual Boy because I just imagine another world where it actually lived a few years and got a decent library built up. It would be one of my favorite consoles if it just had more ambitious titles like Dragon Hopper. Bound High is already one of my favorite non-home console games. It's like a gameboy on 3D steroids and I love that, there's absolutely nothing like it out there and we'll never get another system with those limitations.
>>12732491Honestly I wonder how much that would matter, since modded Switches were needed to extract this in the first place. With the right utility even if it was encrypted it should be readable while it's decrypted to extract the data from memory.
>>12733129>Funny how no other "toy" from Nintendo has a problem of ribbon cables separating because they were in proper connectors instead of being glued onThe Game Boy has the ribbon cable glued to the screen and it has the same problem with missing lines.
>>12733219Very little considering that the Switch can be emulated, so you don't even need an actual Switch to extract them from memory if it came to that.
Zero Racers barely having music is lame
>>12733258I wanted to say that but I wasn't sure how much the NSO classics apps store locally and how much they pull in when the user launches a game.
>>12733263Considering that they can be played with no internet connection, it's obvious they download the roms to the system.

>>12733217I'm upset homebrew on it has never really taken off on it like the gameboy and nes and it sounds like gutting original carts is still the only way to do repros on it.
>>12733296you can emulate gb and nes on a pc with no significant difference from real hardwareto properly emulate the vb you need something like a vr headset or 3d monitor, at the very least anaglyph glasseson top of that the thing wasn't around long enough to create the popular culture impact or nostalgia of other consolesof course there's going to be less homebrew interest
>>12733129gluing the cables was industry standard. Connectors make for customer support issues because they wiggle free. New connectors were invented and now they glue the ribbon cable and not the connector end. Progress.
>>12733304I get that, but there still hasn't been a single major "new" release on the thing in all this time when even stuff like the Jaguar and CD-i have gotten ground-up new games for them. Closest i can think of for one in the works for VB is that racing game that was supposed to go up on kickstarter. I would just have expected some super fan in 30+ years to have been working on a dream project for it.
>>12733317there are multiple vb homebrew titles, just nothing goodin fact, I think there's even a vb studio type program, not that I'd recommend using something like that since they only output slop
I’m out of the loop. Does the switch virtual boy work well or work just like the og? Like for someone who is a super fan would this be worth it?
>>12733327It's a nice way to enjoy them but if you already have an original vb and it works well and you have a flashcart I see no point. Same thing with a VR headset. The Switch one does technically feel more accurate thanks to it being a replica and having red lenses. But for actually sitting and playing Virtual boy I still prefer to use my Quest 3.
>>12733337Word, appreciate the response. Unfortunately for me I got rid of my VB and games way back when for some n64 stuff iirc. Wish I still had it.
The bar is admittedly low, but Dragon Hopper is one of the best VB games I've played. Good use of 3D, solid platforming, fun music, this would've been a nice send-off for the system. I can understand why it was shelved (N64 around the corner, VB was already on clearance at retail) but good on Nintendo for finally allowing it to see the light of day.
>>12733291Well that's sad.
Is Dragon Hopper not loading saves for anyone else on Red Viper? I don't have the update, what's the easiest way to update the emulator on 3DS?

I'm glad the mister core added a side-by-side mode so it can be used with a 3D TV, as well as a way to assign more colors through a palette. The 3DS screen is too small for me, and using the shoulder buttons is not comfortable.>>12733296>I'm upset homebrew on it has never really taken offWhat? >>12733045Those releases *are* encrypted, it's just futile when the game code is exposed via emulators and dataminers focus on any new nintendo format so hard they get unlocked days after release.>>12732576>obsessed retro-gamersThere's no passion or respect to be found in a scammer looking forward to sell you a $50 plastic with a rom he downloaded slapped on it. They ruined everything.Keep in mind that devs tried to charge full price for nes roms (Rockman Perfect Works, Nintendo's GBA lineup of NES games that was hilariously overpriced and filled with DRM/anti-emulation checks uncharacteristic of the GBA) then they realized no one would pay $40/$50 for it and then adjusted offer to collections with worthwhile fan disc like content (the Sonic collections) and extreme generosity for a while (Zelda collections with restored unreleased content, Konami Castlevania PSP with all-new localizations) then affordable bargain bin $10 virtual console/psn releases with no extra content. When devs see that customers are willing to pay for a $200 second-hand old game that might be just a rom slapped on a bootleg cart with fake stickers, an entire parasitic market sprawling around it, and none of that money goes to them, that's exactly how you get $50 ps4 releases with just (one) emulated rom with zero enhancements and some generic art downloaded from the internet, and in M2's case had they not done that that parasitic market wouldn't miss the chance to say "their offer" is better.I would forgive M2/Capcom because while they lock the new versions to their emulator they at least add stuff like automaps, or overlays that compensate for flaws in the original (the turbo controller content in the goemon/bomberman games, the bestiary cut from castlevana CoM, etc)
>>12734253you know that emulator devs put literally 0 effort into security so it's pretty trivial to hide a payload in a rom that will infect any pc running the targeted emulator, right?
>>12734342Trying to charge more than like $20 bucks for a bundle of all your company's games for some deprecated console just isn't going to work in current era. Personally I would never buy a rom unless it was a game I already had some kind of attachment to and they actually put in some effort beyond simply charging for a gimped version of a rom I already have on my network drive. Plus "official" emulation generally sucks compared to modern emulators/devices.
>>12734506Absurdity aside,You know that these roms were lost to time for 30 years and the amount of time and effort to insert them into the roms within hours of release wouldnt have been trivial right? not to mention to keep them correct virtual boy rom size and have the games still be fully intact
>>12734545>exploit already exists>inject it into rom>doneits that simpleI'm sorry you're too retarded to understand technologyprotip: even a jpeg can carry a viral payload if there's a vulnerability in the image viewer
>>12734565You're probably the stupidest person I've responded to in a while. Congrats. You should try learning how to program before you speak of all the EL1TE HAX0R skills you know about. You're literally fucking retarded. Lmao
>>12734542That's not the point.Official developers and publishers were perfectly fine selling roms for cheap ($10) and they'd have the rom sitting unencrypted in the main folder, and going as far as expecting it would be emulated (like a multi-region Monster World IV by M2 that only makes sense on fan emulators) and interviews leaning into that and how they tested it on real hardware (why would they need to if the official emulator was their commercial product? After all pokemon gba on gc emulation and sega's md on saturn emulation were buggy and only supported the specific single game they released for that collection)For the dreamcast and various collections they'd even leave behind comments for how to mod the emulator or how to fix it on external emulators. It's irrelevant that you're not willing to pay M2 those 20 bucks, what's relevant for M2 and the like is that their (original, new roms) work gets pirated AND then sold for 60 bucks or 200 bucks or used to sell something else while the sellers are yelling on the rooftops that their product is superior and that M2's product is trash. It's irrelevant which product is superior too at that point. M2 is investing time and money on being cucked, with dwindling revenue, despite the player interest, because others are making profit off THEIR work and the parasite is killing its host. We're long past romantic talk about reviving the console or fan experience coexisting with developers (the word "fan" is abused these days even by full merch store operations that refuse to give the dev their cut like other merch), it's a full-on revival of the chinese famicom bootleg situation and M2's offer is then also attacked. Something has to give at that point. Either M2 stops all original retro development or they solve the parasite market issue.
>>12734545Nintendo maintains their vault really well, the issue beyond legal complications (already happened with Dragon Hopper's trademark) is their insistence on the quality control. For instance there's a semi-final unreleased SNES port of Quinty by Game Freaks which they vetoed because it wasn't finished enough for a playable release (Ubisoft would have released it, like they did with the Rayman 1/2 single level prototypes)
I think...someone needs...to draw porn of Dorin.

>>12735497Yep, ran it on my MiSTer and noticed that too. Don't have a 3DS to try Red Viper on. Would be nice if it was perfectly emulated on the most common platform, though.
>>12734506Considering that the last time we even heard about this concept was an ancient version of Project64, I would say it's not at all "trivial" to break out of the emulator's sandbox in a way that would allow malware to infect the host system. Furthermore usually each emulator is different, this is especially the case for the Virtual Boy where there are a handful of a few random and mostly outdated emulators here and there so good fucking luck even predicting what emulator most people would be using, much less finding an exploit in it. The most popular Virtual Boy emulator runs on the 3DS of all things, have fun infecting that if you even can I guess?Just about every Virtual Boy emulator on PC sucks and has been abandoned, the only ones considered "active" are only technically considered that because they are part of a multi-emulator that also emulates dozens of other systems, the main emulator and some of it's other systems might still be actively updated, but the Virtual Boy portion sure as fuck has not been touched in ages. IIRC there is not a single emulator on PC that can run Test Chamber correctly, the only things I am aware of that can run it correctly are the 3DS VB emulator Red Viper, a Mister, or using the original hardware. The fucking 3DS has better VB emulation than anything on PC, even if you ignore the 3D!>>12734565>>exploit already existsName it. Here're the other machines. They're all faster than the default ones and go at least 875km/h except Sledge (the one highlighted in pic) which I guess has infinite speed but its acceleration is absolute dogshit
>>12733217Hudson would have had a Bomberman and a Bonk game (that would be the actual latest game, and would be a decent full-size 6 worlds / 24 level platformer) finished by September 96 and released that holiday season if it wasn't for Nintendo and retailers discontinuing that thing. It's really weird how Gunpei made the mistake of succumbing to the pressure of the marketing suits and releasing the hardware basically unfinished and painful for more than 15 minutes with the disastrous color choice. If the RGB model was expensive and too much R&D was spent on it, then why not do an arcade version of the hardware with those 30 minute games and save packs you could take home or share like the Mario Kart GP games, and then bide your time one generation later for a console experience? Their modified SNES consoles for hotels are already expensive as hell so they could have included arcade rgb virtual boy games
>>12736015A VR bomberman game with multiple levels sounds really good, what a shame. Not sure about Bonk, I'm sure it would have been a good game by pedigree but not sure if it would be a good VR experience.
