I'm hoping for Spyro ports. Apparently Spyro 1 is almost ready.

Nothing stopping you from doing that. Nothing stopping you from playing on original hardware. Nothing stopping you from putting these through a CRT Monitor at 640x480 and 60hz either. The point of a proper source port is total flexibility.

The first Snowboard Kids is the one I want the most. SBK2 recomp is sublime and feeling that uncapped framerate without shit framepacing had me wanting for more. I prefer the first game.
>>

I just want fade to black that isn't a chore to play.

I want Kings Field 4 and Shadow Tower Abyss recomp with modernized controls, and 60FPS
>>

Luckily the same dude is working on a SBK1 decomp right now.
https://decomp.dev/cdlewis/snowboardkids-decomp?mode=history
89% matched in two months, his previous experience on the first project and using AI tooling has paid off.
https://github.com/cdlewis/snowboardkids2-decomp#articles

The recomp doesn't use AI vibe coding as far as I can tell, and is done to a high standard.
>>
>>12733419
That's cool, didn't know they started working on SBK. The SBK2 recomp is top quality so I'm looking forward to this one.

Speaking of recomps in general, is there a centrailzed place where I can look up for mods or is it a discord thing?
>>
>>12733419
>>12733440
Netplay is the most interesting part of these recomps, as racing games lend themselves to it quite nicely. Not sure if SBK is gonna be a huge hit or anything. There might end up with a FightCade like setup for old racing games using recomps as an interface.

Decomp.dev does track a considerable number of projects, but it's not a definitive resource.
They aren't tracking the Sonic Advance Trilogy decomp project, for example.
https://github.com/SAT-R/sa2
https://github.com/SAT-R/sa3

This is one I'm looking forward to as they're actively working to adapt it into a widescreen PC port with expanded viewing area, from 240x160 to 426x240.
It could also be a great candidate for Portmaster ports with 4:3 support on 640x480 displays, it should feel as natural as playing the Genesis games or Sonic Mania if complete.

>>
I have been so impressed by the PC ports / decomps that I consider them the best way to play. And I even have my orig '90s copies of 4/4 of the ports that I've played.
I'm all for it. They feel like how the games should have been all along, like how you remember them in your mind.
If you want to play the original, you already can so that's a moot point.

Decomps aim to produce code that is human readable and can be compiled back into the original game for its original platform. Dynamic recomps just use whatever to produce a native binary.
>>
>>12739883
You're doing it wrong, if you want to turn enulators obsolete you have to flood their pull requests with thousands a day of 9-page claude vomit of bullshit no one will read until they go closed source, and then flood the net with forks that have more name variations than a manga aggregator website, like with the healthy state of switch emulators today with vibecoded UI with more memory leaks than your tranny ax wound.

Shadow Tower Abyss requires a bunch of hacks to get rid of the blurry bullshit and interlacing and even then its not 100% it emulates like garbage unless in software mode.

plus they run in 30fps it would be nice to have 60fps support without breaking the game
>>
>>12747889
it looks like it's just raw asm
>>
>>12747889
Ridge racer is one of those games where I feel a decomp isn't really that useful - the game world basically doesn't exist beyond the 4:3 viewport and it runs at a locked framerate (25/30fps sure but it never wavers unlike most games of the time) so it is a game that just werks and works well. These projects are best done on games that don't run well on native hardware imo.
>>
>>12744870
Plays fine and it looks smooth and it's 60fps, but I don't know how to save in game
>>
>>12748078
Ridge racer is more akin to a demo for the PS1 than a real game. But having a proper 60fps port with full wheel support is nice, and you would't have to deal with the nonsense of MAME or anything.

But the bigger fish are the later Ridge Racer games, namely 4 and V which are considered fan favorites. New ports, with new options, hell maybe even new physics options? That would be nice.

I'm also really curious about some of the PSP racing games getting decomped and ported since they are stuck on a shitty tiny console and osme have nice graphics and depth.
>>
>>12748085
Oh and speaking of this, I do think there's a possibility (albeit small) of a fight cade system being created around these kinds of recomps. Right now a lot of the retro racing netplay is built around discord groups (ugh), which is likely teh best option now. But if enough recomps are made of racing games, then a single front end could be created, with netplay to allow to jump between them and challenge people.
>>
>>12748078
Considering the RRT4 tech demo exists, a decomp definitely would be useful.
Integrating full analog controls, 60fps and optional 480i could be a massive improvement for it.
>>
>>12733056
Both SM64 Plus and Ghostship have manual camera control now, but I think the implementation in Plus is much better. It doesn't feel right to me in Ghostship but I'm not really sure why.
>>
>>12748936
Never mind. I just realized it's because of how analog control works for the Lakitu camera in Plus. It works totally differently in Ghostship. I think the manual setting in Ghostship is the Mario camera in Plus. Idk man it's confusing.
Anyway the camera I like is the Lakitu cam in Plus w/ analog control.

For 1994 it was an insanely good tech demo. Don't look down on tech demos for being tech demos. Namco's early 3D games put the PS on the map and sold copies. Tekken, Tekken 2, Soul Edge, Ridge Racer, Ace Combat. These games defined the PS in 1994-1995, in a critical junction when it needed to show itself off.

Most of the very early PS games were barely playable shit 3D tech demo games.

Just tried this F-Zero 64 PC port that was finished recently. It works great
https://github.com/Zorkats/G-Diffuser

There's some tiny graphical issues, a little bit of pop-in but it's barely noticeable, compared to Project64 it's hardly anything, and it might have been like that on original hardware I'm not sure. It plays really well and the widescreen is really good, you can remove the black borders the original had too. Worked with my gamecube controller too. It needs 3 different roms to run it but I was able to find them easily.

I've tried Ghostship (Mario 64), Starship (Star Fox 64), pd-x86_64-linux (Perfect Dark), Ship of Harkinian (Ocarina of Time), and Zelda64Recompiled (Majora's Mask).

Of the bunch, Ghostship is the most prone to crashing, but it has enough cool features to motivate you to fight through it.

On the other hand, Zelda64Recompiled is completely solid. It is stable and perfect, and without a doubt the best of the bunch. They're planning on adding support for Ocarina of Time "soon," and I can't wait.

SoH has cool features but it has serious issues, notably analog stick diagonal input. Mapping C-items to the right analog stick results in a lot of misfires because of weaknesses in SoH's programming.

Perfect Dark is the game that benefitted the most from a recomp. It's a night-and-day difference to be able to play with a mouse and keyboard.

And I don't have a lot to say about Starship because I launched it and suddenly remembered that Star Fox 64 is kind of boring.

So there.

>Perfect Dark is the game that benefitted the most from a recomp
That's what I reckon too. It works great and the FPS controls are so much better with mouse and keyboard, and 60fps instead of 15 or even like 10 on the Chicago level on original hardware.
The F-Zero X one is probably my 2nd favourite so far with the full widescreen instead of being squished so much on the 64

PD was already playable on m/kb + 60fps with that special emulator, but it's nice to have a real port

Mapping C-items to the right analog stick results in a lot of misfires because of weaknesses in SoH's programming.

it's too bad because harkinian has a lot more cool new options included

The SoH crew should get back to basics and fix the broken stuff instead of preoccupying themselves with randomizers.

that's the part morons get excited about, so it gets more attention

mgs1?
theres a project on github but i think you have to build it yourself and it still ends up running on an emulator? so kind of defeats the purpose i would say
>>
>>12757948
its weird one of the most influential games hasnt been properly decomped yet, but mgsilauncher makes it trivial to play on modern systems so a "port" isnt really necessary
>>
>>12757490
i dont care about randomizer stuff, it has dozens of cool options outside that mode
>>
>>12757471
the emulator one doesn't run very well on my computer, it's like 20 fps with sound issues with glide and there's graphical issues with jabo. The port works perfectly though
>>
>>12757948
I'm wondering if the recent leak of the MGS2 HD port will have any influence. No idea how much of the original code is in there compared to the updated port, and beyond that how much the engine of 2 overlaps with 1. It could be entirely different for all I know, but if not I'd imagine they people can probably learn from it (while of course legally pretending like they never read it).

Wing Commander games are getting decomp aswe speak at wcnews discord.

I wish someone would do a recomp of Stunt Race FX! It's a great game, it would be awesome at 60fps and with smoother models, better draw distance.

Goldeneye is 100% decompiled now apparently, just happened yesterday
https://www.xda-developers.com/n64-classic-goldeneye-007-100-decompiled-paving-the-way-mods-and-ports/

I think they're still testing it or something. There's no releases yet on their github page. I've been waiting for this one for ages though, the Perfect Dark one was really good so hopefully it's similar to that

Hoping for more 360 games that PC gamers never got to play.

Gran Tursimo 2 needs a decomp, and I barley need to explain why: mods and netplay.

>suddenly can port a number of tracks from other games to it
>can compete on netplay
>can do LAN as well if need be
>could revamp the entire campaign and arcade modes
>could do total conversions: take another game and under the hood have it be GT2
>could restore all the beta and cut content

i would love if someone decomps the vr missions, just for the idea of being able to create more vr stages
>>
>>12733918
No you're wrong, if you didn't play at 20fps with drops to the single digits every time there's an enemy on screen, you didn't beat the game.

I don't know if this is the right thread to post this as this is not exactly a decompilation.

We're a small discord community that aims to extend Joey the Passion and maybe restore Yugioh Online 3: Duel Accelerator to a playable state and maybe put up a private server. The latter is going very slowly and a lot of people have quit. But when it comes to former, we've achieved a major breakthrough. One of our members, kekhan, reverse engineered the game in summer of 2025 and has written a program in C++ and C# that hooks into the game's process and enables scripting of the most basic engine primitives. Our aim is to eventually bring full GOAT format in JTP. Here are some videos of our progress:

When he's online again, I'll ask him to upload BLS - Envoy of the Beginning and Breaker the Magical Warrior videos.

Here's the link to the github repository if anyone is interested: https://github.com/bitemydusto/YGO-PoC-Toolset/releases
