Midtown Madness filtered me but Midnight Club just feels right. Cars finally have some weight but it's still full arcade fun.
>>12744435I installed Midtown Madness and I literally cannot get past the third checkpoint race. I honestly think there is something wrong in between the input and the physics, the mustang and roaster just homes into traffic with a mind of its own
I still can't beat The King. It's been 35 years.
>>12744496>street rod 2I tried the amiga version of sr2 and I hate it the fucking mulholland drive race is so stupid what do you mean theres fucking puddles and rocks everywhere isn't that where all the rich people live? Oh and then the wet cement part too... You can't even pass it unless you buy some higher level parts on the amiga version even if you slow down you'll get stuck so you need better parts. But the worst part of mulholland is how unstable the framerate when in the first game it felt like f-zero. All you can do is the aqueduct race when you start out. Grudge Night is fun though but I miss the stickers and car list of the first game man what a let down.
Imagine fucking up how an old game displays just because you have a widescreen monitor
>>12744604The black bars are out to get me!
>>12744435I just played Midnight Club on the GBA and it might genuinely be one of the worst racing games I have eveer played along with DS veersion of NFS Most Wanted
Really wish this game played better.
>>12744985Really unless they completely rebuilt the game to be something better the biggest flaw of the game we got was not having any fun cheats so players could really lean into messing about with the destruction.
>>12744985Are the sequels any better?
As i've gotten older i've really come to enjoy old racing games that let me cruise around cool locations - be it just doing a few laps in a single race/time trial mode (i.e no opponents) or for the few good open world racing games just cruising listening to tunes. I've certainly become more critical of track design.
Is it /vr/oom approved?
idea: time attack toyota estima around tsukuba, have fun trying to beat this admittedly bad time in your own "hot" toyota branded big milf vans
i know /vr/ likes to /vr/ooombut do you also like to /vr/aaaaaap?
>>12745914TT could've been nice if it had five opponents like in GT games, and more events with street bikes. The PS2 was too weak to handle it.
game over yeah
>>12745968super-bikes riding challenge(also on ps2) had way more bikes in races and idk if its more realistic or not but on the brakes its way more punishing. TT, while it was my gateway drug to motorcycles, it is also clearly a smaller scale game compared to its contemporaries
>>12746018I wish the music was better for a sega game
>>12746018this game is really odd but also really mediocre, it has cross promotion with sonic 06 which i find funny. the terrain deformation is kinda neat but the driving feels absolutely boring which isnt helped by this being a modern(not retro) racing game where they think that adding a million events with baby mode difficulty is how you pace a game. same issues as the later wipeouts, ridge racers and the grid games
>>12746058>later wipeoutsAt least HDFury gave you difficulty options that speed up grinding.I'm still coming back to get all elite medals which is brutal.
>>12746078>>12746796Stuntman is good shit. Hard game but very satisfying when you can pull off every stunt.
>>12746850That second level took me like a hundred retries. It is satisfying but the physics are so frustrating and maddening. Insane that it had long loading times for retries on real hardware, probably led to a few PS2s getting smashed in rage. It's the ghosts n goblins of car games.
>>12746058I feel baby mode is fine as long there is optional hard stuff that give you exclusive rewards.I've been dropping games more and more for gates on the main path.Fucking Dirt 3 and the obligatory gymkhana.
>>12745914Excitebike 64 is one of my fav racing games, was thinking on trying more motorbike games (liked top gear hyperbike & supercross 2000, was thinking on trying something on ps1)
>>12746893i think i worded it kinda bad but what i mean is im just not a fan of adding a million events, for some insane reason midnight club 2 is one of the best paced racing games and that one is open world. this isn't even really a MODERN modern problem as even something as old as underground 2 or mw05 suffers from this issue of bloat. idk if this is the right wording either because i enjoy genki games despite them arguably being bloated but i think it helps that they feel more like a car life sim(a-la GT or Forza) as opposed to a regular racing game stretched out
>>12746905People think the bloat was made so you keep playing the game, but the best way to deal with it is doing short sessions so you don't get burned out. It's easier than before to hop from game to game to always be entertained, but I do miss a well paced package. Gaming has become such a blur.
>>12746078>>12746796I totally forgot that game was a thing. It seems to work on emulator now and looks nice with framegen. It's odd there are no hdtexture packs though, because it certainly needs it.
>>12745914>>12745968>2 wheels>>12746018>>12746023>dirtpffft step aside - real gamers know the thrill of speed comes fro big engines in big vehicles.
>>12746997disabling the texture filtering gives it a nice ps1 pro look
>>12746997Any way to fix the broken AI or skip those levels?
>>12747080fork https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/issues/2990
>>12746058technically its retro since its from before the cutoff date>it has cross promotion with sonic 06i dont think its a promo with any particular sonic game, just some sonic liveries because its a sega game i guess. tho honestly the game *looks* like sonic 06 if it was able to get a coat of polish before release. i guess most mid 2000s sega games just look like that
>>12745914Super Hang on is pissing me the FUCK off, every bullshit sharp turn is crammed with other racers so of course youre gonna hit them since they have 1 ms of time on screen when they appear
>>12747004Are there any good truck racing games out there? There's a few generic ones for PSX that look competent but there's not much to them.
This game represents the timeline we should have been on has third worlders and commies not destroyed our country.
>>12747745I vaguely remember that ps2 game in the preview being decent but beyond that truck racing is just so niche I doubt you'll find many games about it.

So I decided earlier today that I wanted to replay some rage racer. Now being that I have a OG hardware setup I followed this through by finding an old cheat book that came with a magazine to see what they have for cheats as its been a while and I forget what there might be for the game. A few are the usual stuff for ridge racer games like turning off the rear view mirror but one is for infinite money - excellent, that would let me have all the cars at each class! However upon closer inspection the cheat is basically "to have infinite money, beat the game and play it again on the same save file".IF I'VE BEATEN THE GAME I DON'T NEED INFINITE MONEY
>>12746891I always put the cheats in to unlock everything and just fuck around on the Arena for hours.
I lost my sanity but I beat it
>>12747757This is easily my favorite racing game ever
>>12744429You now remember the Screamer games or the PC response to Ridge Racerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t14ztpfUd4s
games for this feel?
>>127506121nsane
>>12748530>"oh man, that was clutch">"but it's still going.">"...and it's still going.">"...and it's STILL going."
After swearing an unhealthy amount when beating driver 2 back in the day when stuntman was released I played the demo, saw which way the wind was blowing for difficulty and vowed to never play the game again.
Dunno about you anons but i'm sure excited for the need for speed underground 2 release in a few months!
>>12753573I really enjoyed NFSU2 when it came out, but these days I actually prefer NFSU1
Anyone else been playing the Sega Rally PC port? I've been really enjoying it, but it seems a lot harder than Sega Rally 2. Might just be me getting used to SR1 handling again after playing a ton of SR2 recently. On that note, I loved SR2, both the arcade original being emulated and the PC port via the repack. There's so much game to the 10 Year Championship, it took me a while to beat it, but goddamn it was fun. Each time I played I felt like I was one or two more attempts away from cracking another year, such a good difficulty curve.
>>12746901Moto Racer 2
>>127477454x4 Evo but it's not that great
>>12753573I prefer the first oneand I prefer Hot Pursuit 2 even more than that

I want to play the 3DO version of the need for speed and since original hardware is unobtanium what is the go-to emulator for the platform? I heard the game on OG hardware runs slow as molasses so emu overclocking is a highly desired feature.
>>12756519I used 4DO and it ran ok
Finally got a decent run after years of slumber
Lake Side raped me though, fucking collisions, but it doesn't count for the overall time so it's alright
IF YOU JUST WANT TO BE MY FRIEND WHY DO YOU KEEP CALLING ME THEN
>>12748692A peg below Rush 2, but still alright.Wish there was a way to hybridize this game with Rush: 2049 SE, though.
Is juiced any good? If so is the pc version the best way to play these days?
Why is it so shit? It's honestly depressing, given the rest of Sega's pedigree in this category.
>>12757958It's an ok 6/10 gameThere is also a PSP game which as some unique content
>>12756251>My Red Hot Carabsolutely basedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zwisWaiVzQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8PvoUkcjE4I'M GONNA FUCK YOU WITH MY RED HOT COCK
>>12758762I hate the psp version I can't stand it I played the PC version and you could just grind out the same team leader challenges over and over to raise the respect for each team but that doesn't work on psp man fuck that oh and the STARTER OVAL TRACK is locked now? what a what a shitty unlockable man it's the beginners course. Anyway the JP version has a balance update to the japanese cars but from my experience the framerate is unstable on emulator. >>12757958Look up how to mod the controller to work on PC because it's controller support is buggy and the default layout made the RIGHT STICK accelerate, brake, and turn so yeah Juiced is a mess.
>ACTUALLY trying to git gut at drifting on this gameHoly shit, help. Also cool recomp.

>>12757616>>12757620>>12757621>>12757624Amazing how you can fit the entirety of this game into a couple webms.
>>12759259It would take even less to show Manx TT Superbike.
>>12759095Cool, seein the japanse cover.
>>12758264This is so horrible. Why would they release this turd and put my favorite car on the cover as an insult
>>12759095>Look up how to mod the controller to work on PC because it's controller support is buggy and the default layout made the RIGHT STICK accelerate, brake, and turn so yeah Juiced is a mess.I don't think that is the case anymore It worked fine
>>12744429I'm playing Need For Speed II (PS1). I grew up loving Need For Speed IV: High Stakes (PS1) and Gran Turismo 2 (PS1), so I decided to give this a try as it had the Ford GT90, McLaren F1... a lot of cars I loved from this era, and it seemed simple in its structure.Well, it's quite difficult too, the physics are crazy even in simulation mode, you'll spin and flip often, though your opponents will too, it's quite fun at first honestly, though when you're trying to win it can get frustrating, there's also a lot of rubberbanding, a God sent most of the time, but annoying in those few moments you can get ahead, I usually just win in the last few corners on the last lap.I'm still trying to win the tournament by winning the last race, the knockout mode though? No saving between races, so I'm not doing it, I know what I'm capable of and what I'm bad at doing aswell. It's fun, I like it, but it's a flawed gem too, and quite a frustrating one honestly. I can't stand to lose this last race, being #2 blows.
>>12760382Use the lotus GT1. Not only does it have by far and away the best handling It is fast enough that on the two straight tracks (proving ground and outback) you won't be left behind - even though you might not get first - and in the following tracks the handling will let you obliterate the a.i.
>>12760547funny when games massively overinflate the performance of cars that were dogshite in real life. the Elise GT1 was underpowered unreliable and had bad aerodynamics in reality, rarely finishing races and when it did it was usually multiple laps down. a 911 GT1 having that kind of performance would've made more sense, I thinkt the F1 and F50 already in the game I believe were faster than the Elise GT1.
>>12760647the issue is that this game has the street cars so its a different tale... one where the elise gt1 is largely hypothetical as they made one of those and the f1 and f50 are different beasts as street cars
>>12760834I was referring to the street cars. the Elise GT1 road car is fundamentally no different from the race car except it has a weaker engine. it's an Elise that's been Frankensteined into fitting the Esprit's V8 and giant wings that don't work right. The F1 and F50 road cars almost certainly would run laps around it on a road course. not to mention the other GT1 homologation specials available in 1997 (Porsche, Panoz)
are there any vrooms with a competitive, fairly balanced championship mode (earning points in each round) that can be completed in one sit (an hour and half at most)?
Holy shit max power racing is so bad and I don't know why I thought it would be a good idea to play it.>>12761110You're going to struggle to get something with a balanced championship mode that is that short without a laundry list of caveats. Ridge racer 4's championship is what, 8 races long and you'll get 90% of what the game offers fro ma single run. The first 3 need for speed games (though not the 3DO release of the first game) have short championship modes. Destruction derby 1 can be beaten pretty fast - especially in the main wreckin' racing mode as you aren't even required to survive a race as your points scored are counted no matter what.
>>12760547I've managed to beat it with the orange McLaren F1 I was going for... though the last few races were no joke. I generally enjoy playing this, once you know the courses you can get away with little breaking and often just taking your feet off of the gas and doing the corner in a fast and fun way, also the crazy physics are fun at first, not so fun when you're trying and failing to win, but fun and I'm sure I would've loved it as a kid when I was less jaded and competitive. In general the issues I struggled the most with were the narrow tracks that are hard to overtake, and crazy physics where it's easy to lose control completely and often it happens in the last lap, that's the 2nd early on, but the 4th in the last few, which are the hardest too.I'm fond of it, but it's a flawed gem for sure.
>>12761110Sega Rally 2 Ten Year Championship mode is kind of like that. It's four races each year and the run for a year takes like 5 minutes? It will take multiple attempts to come in first place though.
>>12747757>san francisco>a city that was already overrun by them when the first rush was made
