Star Control II (Also known as Ur-Quan Masters, also known as Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Master) got an update with the Mega Mod recently. The latest updates have added two major features:

>Randomization modes that randomize the Galaxy layout, planet resources, event locations, alien locations, and even alien ships. Dialogue is appropriately altered to fit this.
>Ship storage. Store ships at the starbase for later. Crucially, gifted ships will be sent here if your current loadout is full.

Why aren't you replaying Star Control 2 now? What better time will there be?

What happened to the Androsynth?

Don't like the twitchy combat.

This
I'd never stop playing SCII if it was an RPG or something, but I've done enough flying around in the Spathi ship taking potshots at the enemy chasing me, then turning around when they turn around, for one life.

Thirded. It's too easy to slip up and lose the interesting new characters you found, especially if you don't know their ships. Becomes a savescum-fest.
>>
Interesting. What a great game.

Keep practicing and getting good. The Spathi is a good beginner ship but it shouldn't be your main one.

Honestly the ship storage might make the game more playable for you, you should be willing to lose ships and not just make a fleet that's one of every ship.

Git gud.
>>
>>12746587
Just take advantage of the landing ship bug and make a kazillion dollars and always buy a lot of ships.

It's there so the game isn't so fucking annoying and long you know. It's not even cheating.

How good is the randomizer

koolaid but i already needed a walkthru to beat the original mode!

ok good idea.

they got happy campered in a space anus.
>>

What was their fucking problem?

The Spathi ship is great for kiting. You can whittle down Ur-Quan Dreadnoughts even. For mid-game the the Orz Nemesis, Utwig Jugger, and the Chmmr Avatar are good. The Jugger particularly hard counters Kohr-Ah Marauders. However the GOAT end game ship is the fully upgraded precursor flagship with 3 shots of hellbore cannons with tracking.

I've beaten it multiple times, I just don't like the combat and it makes me not want to touch it again.

Happy camper!

Its very VERY hard to get good at this game. I mean its possible but nit worth the grind imo

It's fun. The Genesis version is inferior in some ways, but the fun bit is that many people had it and it was a great 2-player melee game. That trained you for the main game itself, computer enemies always being quite a bit dumber than a good human player at least in those days assuming no cheating on the computer's part. Which was often done. But not in this game. That little UFO ship that is immune to gravity? Just go straight to the sun and hover next to it, on the opposite side to the enemy computer player, they will get fucked up every time.

in theory you can beat any ship with that speedy Gray's ship. but its armour is terrible and its weapon hardly does any damage.

Do they still expect me to write down coordinates I've heard in a conversation or was that the other game, Starflight?
>>
>>12745221
>Why aren't you replaying Star Control 2 now? What better time will there be?
I am baby, calm down. I have gone off in search of minerals, the Ur-Quan have put up a slave shield!
>>
>>12752773
No you still do have t write down coordinates. Just open notepad.exe and write notes as you play.

Is notetaking seen as a negative for gamers these days?
>>
>>12753064
I took and plotted the map on graph paper.
>>
>>12745221
I've been trying to play the 3do version on my tablet but the touch screen controls suck and I keep dying in starship battles.
>>
>>12752773
No thar wouldn't be as good as having a printout of the map. They'd do stuff like tell you alpha perseii 2 and you need the paper map to show you where alpha perseii is
>>
>>12755287
>touch screen controls suck
How do you even do combat with touch controls?
>>
>>12748302
they're part of a collective and speak for what is essentially 1 fingertip of cthulu peaking into our realm. their reality is so torn from ours that they can't even come close to communication without misunderstandings.
>>
>>12753064
>Is notetaking seen as a negative for gamers these days?
modern games essentially never expect it, the rare cases where they don't give you glowing objective markers telling you exactly where to go, they'll at least have in-game notes to reference anything relevant.
>>
I'm stuck. I've got the Spathi, Zoq, and that's it.
>>
>>12758203
Just explore, it's that easy.
>>
>>12745221
>Why aren't you replaying Star Control 2 now? What better time will there be?
Because it's basically an adventure game with extra steps. I've watched all the dialogue on youtube. I know how the story ends. I didn't play this game as a kid so it doesn't have any sentimental value for me. Just like I will never play Monkey Island, even though I think it was brilliant, clicking through everything just to get to the end would be a waste of time.
>>
>>12758203
use the old map (in the manual) for reference
>>
>>12756471
I can't really. I keep geting killed by that borg like species when trying to travel through hyperspace. I'll get a proper controller setup. The 3do version I'm playing on retroarch seems to work pretty well though, aside from my not having a controller.
>>
>>12759594
If you don't have fwiffo or max thrusters for the mothership you basically can't beat them. It's one of the worst things in the game. With max thrusters you.will be jusy barelynfaster than the probe.

You can take the mothership and fly close to a planet and escape warp- gravity stops effecting you when you warp and the slylandro will probably not damage you very much because it will try to avoid tye planet
>>
>>12758203
Zoq is crap. mine more. buy more Spathi ships while you still can. i think the next step is to find those spider guys with flamethrower ships and mindfuck them with psychic messages or something.
there's a time limit but you probably don't need to worry about it unless you're purposely trying to see the bad ending. check a walkthrough or a labelled map if you're really lost.
>>
>>12759594
>retroarch meme
not this shit again.

and the open sauce version was made because it can combine both the best parts of DOS and 3DO version, and you decide to screw yourself over anyway.
>>
>>12759594
>The 3do version I'm playing on retroarch
Why would you emulate this game, that's unhinged
