Translation: Is the PS3 and Wii retro? August 23rd, GCCX will live stream a debate on the very topic.

>>12754564
At the end of the day, the one wii or ps3 game we get wont really matter much.
>>
>>12752841
Will they finally give arino a crt to play on?
>>

>Rhythm Tengoku.

I'm playing this game right now and it's mid, every minigame plays pretty much the same
WarioWare mogs it
>>
>>12756463
NEVER.
They seem to have something against it, unless it's required for lightguns.
I guess it's just less maintenance and easier to set up an LED/LCD/Whatever the fuck awful screen he's using.

Both are great but warioware is kino that is hard to beat. In my opinion the series only got really good at fever.

Never. True honorable Japanese gamers must play on a 4:3 LCD with tons of input lag. Fat TVs are for fat burgers.
>>

I think if they end up allowing any games from that gen in an actual episode, it's going to be on a very limited basis.
>>

The unspoken rule is to not have a GAME before 20 years. NOtice the latest games they'v ehad is like 2002 or some shit. So this limits them to 2006 shit.

No. EDF and DDR Mario weren’t 20 years old when they did them.

>This is going to be the most controveral and depressing episode of GCCX of all time. It's going to mainly be about old men in a room bitching about how old they are.

Not an episode proper, but a livestream. It is being framed as an active debate with both sides being heard, between show staff. So I imagine ADs having the job of giving both sides, and people like Kan, Kibe, and Arino, being the judges. I hope they have a little judge panel and they have to hold up signs to vote for it. That'd be cute.

I think the panel would have to be an odd number to work right? Maybe add Ogawa, and some classic ADs as well.
>>
>>12761624
>>12761670
Not even counting Season 1 with the short challenges and a few modern consoles, they've actually gone against that supposed rule a bunch of times. Like with Super Mario 64, it wasn't even 10 years old when they played it back in Season 4.

"retro" means a specific style, it does not mean "X years old"
>>
>>12765140
That will be one view point in the upcoming debate. I can see the other ADs given the task that it's just a matter of dating.

For comparison, Tokimeki Memorial was challenged in 2004, just 10 years after its 1994 release date. If they were to challenge a game now that was 10 years old, it would be 2016 era games like... Overwatch. Which is still being played.

Post 2016 gaming era also frozen in time since they created these "forever games".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_released_in_2016#October%E2%80%93December
>>
>>12766041
The FUji tv site is just their official site listing on Fuji's main website, and is mostly just for news about upcoming episodes.

They have a fan site with mroe content and blogs.

But the show is on Fuji-TV ONE, which is a satalite tv station you have to subscribe to. It is not a web series.

>>
>>12752841
If you need it, wouldn't you keep it? Why are blacks like this?
>>
>>12767990
The metaphor is someone is offering you something and then you are responding with "Yes, I need that" or "No, you should keep it".
>>
>>12768021
Shouldn't it be "keep it," then? Why are blacks like this?
>>
>>12762761
The first thing they're going to do is remind Arino of that one episode he was gifted a Wii console when it was brand new and he's going to react painfully like when they told him they would start having ADs on the show that were as old as the show itself.
>>
>>12768824
Ogawa is already waxing poetic with "when I was a kid and played this game". Grown ass woman, talking about these retro game from her child hood. now the next gen of ADs are like what, 24? That means any game from 2002 is older than they are!
>>
>>12765140
>>12765409
Forever games do complicate the retro debate.

However on the whole games that were released on PS3/Xbox 360/Wii are a pretty different style from the games that are released on modern systems. Wii games were frequently waggling motion controlled games which very rarely get made today and PS3 had PSMove and Xbox 360 had Kinect. In terms of monetisation most Wii games were complete, without additional costs, and DLC was nascent on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It was the days of EA and other companies "project $10" which was thankfully left in the past. Popular genres like cover shooters have fallen out of vogue and the brown and bloom style of graphics have too. On the Wii, Zelda TP was a traditional game in the style of OOT and SS followed the same formula but with motion controls, but the series has moved away from this structure for the last 10 years

That generation is retro in as much as games don't get made like that anymore

>Season 30: Episode 8 (#424) "Star ______" premieres on Thursday, September 10th.

Star Fox? Star Wars?
>>
>>12752868
>>12769583
Oh, and that Kyushu special with Pikmin finally gets onto Fuji TV ONE on August 30.
>>
>>12769583
Star Fox 64 seems nice and natural. Star Fox less likely. Star Wars requires a disney licenses so maybe?

I do hope it's 64, simply because Star Fox often runs at like 6fps.
>>
>>12769676
They did do Star Fox 64 as a Nintendo Channel challenge, and Arino had a lot of trouble fighting star wolf.
Politically, it's smarter to do Star Fox 64 since that's the 'canon' start point for the franchise.
But retro wise, playing the original would be more fun.
>>
>>12769583
Tropic maybe?
>>
>>12770665
That was a North American ony game.

>>12769583
Super Star Wars would be highly obnoxious.
>>
>>12770679
>Super Star Wars
They would probably just end up letting him use debug mode or other cheats.
>>
>>12771757
You can still count the amount of times they let Arino use cheat codes on your hands, so unless it's a stage selection, it won't happen.
>>
>>12769583
>スーパースターウォーズ
>Super Star Wars

Can't be that, because the clue format is: "Star ____". No super Star at the front. They're very particular about this.

My guesses:

>Star Luster
>Star Soldier
>Star Voyager
>Star Wars (1987)
>Star Wars (1991)
>Star Trek: 25th Anniversary
>Star Trek: The Next Generation
>Star Parodier
>Star Mobile
>Star Breaker
>Star Fox
>Star Ocean
>Star Fox 64
>Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
>Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth
>Star Wars: Episode I - Battle for Naboo

Most likely:
>Star Paroder
>Star Mobile
>Star Wars (1991)
>Star Fox
>>
>>12772060
Star Mobile is whack!
>>
>>12765140
I don't see how GameCube or PS2's 3D games are more retro than Wii games. Wii was a continuation of that generation with a twist, which is very different from what developers envisioned a PS3 game should be.

The Bayou Billy episode is one of the most clownshoes things I've seen. Once they reveal to him that the shooting levels are meant to be played with a light gun, they drag in a CRT and move the video cables between the two different TVs every time he switches from a standard level to a shooting level and back.
>>
>>12772496
I thought House of the Dead was worse. They brought out the CRT and light gun, and since Arino had been playing all game long with a controller, he actually did worse and switched back.
>>
>>12772859
They "cracked" the light gun games and have a formula now:

Arino starts with the light gun for a bit, just so they can say they are using a light gun for a light gun game. But the PS/SS supported mouse peripherals, so they just switch to that eventually as it's easier on Arino's old man body.

They subbed the preview video:
