it's time to admit that San Andreas is the best PS2 game in terms of quality and fun in addition to being the best-selling game for the system.it was an achievement
I do not see the appeal of this series. The gameplay is extremely boring and poorly implemented.
San Andreas was the peak of Grand Theft Auto.>GTA 4 was great, but not as good as SA.>GTA 5 was great, but not as good as SA or GTA 4.GTA 6 will probably be the same. GTA has peaked and has been falling for 22 years.
>>12756732>qualitythe quality was pretty bad, i mean the game looked like total shit. It had some great quantity though.
>>12756829>i mean the game looked like total shit>equating graphics with qualityThis post is what happens when zoomers born in 2006 who have only ever played on a PS4 or PS5 hear about a popular game from the 2000s and play it for the first time 20 years after release. It's a game from the sixth generation of consoles, what did you expect?
>>12756732Undisputed. Anons will try. They will fail.
>>12756936To be fair, there were other PS2 games with better graphics back then, and some reviews mentioned SA looking a bit outdated compared to them (which was pretty retarded since those games didn't offer such a fucking huge open world). But yeah, it definitely didn't look like shit back then and still doesn't today. The difference between the og version and the shitty remake really shows that having a good art style is way more important than sheer graphics.
it's the definition of quantity over quality they wanted to test out how much shit they can throw in a ps2 game and most of the game mechanics are half baked as fuck
>>12756732>Normalfag crime simulator>Best anythingShut the fuck up, wetback.
>>12756829>>12756973To be fair, they did cram a lot of random shit into SA that was very boring and forgettable. A lot of the bars have arcade machines in them that you can play on. You can also play pool against NPCs in a lot of bars. There are a lot of ambulance, firefighter, taxi, police, etc side missions that you can do too, but they're very repetitive and the rewards for completion aren't that good. There's even a trucking mission where you have to deliver cargo in a 18-wheeler. It's about as "exciting" as you'd expect.I wish they'd spent that dev time on making more story missions that let you do cool shit, instead of including all that boring side content. Still a 10/10 game, but it could have been an 11/10 if Rockstar had focused more on making SA actually be GTA instead of being ambulance driver simulator.
>>12756776VC had the best radio and atmosphereIV was a huge downgrade other than graphicsV a downgrade of IV other than graphicsVI took nearly as long as Duke Nukem Forever to come out and will be a downgrade of V other than graphics
>>12756732Only favela dwellers like OP can have such a horrible plebian opinion.
>>12756776>>12757074grow up you contrarian faggots, 4 was boring garbage and 5 while not near SA levels at least it's much better than that awful slop
>>127573145 was worse than 4and 4 was dogshit
IV > VC >> SA > III >>>> VI haven't played the top down ones or the portable entries.
>>12757340hye anon looks like you mistyped < as >
I have never finished San Andreas, I always drop off at some point.3 and Vice City I have beaten multiple times.
>>12756732It's cool how they added RPG elements.
glad I have triple digit IQ and white skin, and thus have never been interested in these fucking dogshit normie games
>>12757502You want a gold star, champ?
>>12756732The hype and magic of playing it was unreal
>>12757519I felt that more going from III>Vice City than I did with San Andreas Of course San Andreas was a far bigger feat and a far denser game but just for me personally
idk about you guys but i wish these open world crime games had more aerial dogfights considering how many aircrafts there are with fixed guns
>terrible shooting >terrible driving>huge but boring realistic city with nothing fun to do in itliterally what is the fucking appeal?
SA used to be my favorite at the time but I've completely changed my opinion on it after replaying the GTA games throughout the years. SA was all spectacle, no substance. It throws tons of stuff at you but it's all half-baked. At the time the novelty of it all was mind blowing. 3 cities, countryside, desert, what seemed like an infinite variety of vehicles and weapons, side-activities, girlfriends, etc. But these days that novelty factor doesn't really hit anymore, and all of its design flaws are laid bare.GTA III on the other hand is a game I never really cared for, because I played it after SA, but after a more recent playthrough I think it's honestly a better game in many ways. Yes, it's less polished mechanically but in terms of design it's much leaner, and it's better off for it. SA tried to do too much and ended up becoming a shitty pseudo-RPG with undercooked mechanics while III has a much tighter gameplay loop and knows what it is.Even though, like many, I was disappointed with IV when it came out, seeing it as a downgrade in terms of content, I now totally think R* did the right thing. They scaled back all useless junk and focused on creating a tight core-experience. I recently replayed through IV as well and even though on paper it's a "boring" game, it never really felt like that to me because shooting guys was always satisfying and driving always kept me engaged (although I understand the driving in that game is polarizing).
>>12757532The appeal is that you're 10 years old in 2004 and the only other games you've ever played are Spyro and Sly Cooper and all of the sudden you're thrust into what seems like an infinitely large life simulation where it feels like you can do anything you want. It's very much a thing of it's time.
>>12757502T. Celibacy
>>12757538>Design flawsOh no did the heckin Reddit min max enjoyment formula not hit just right champ?
>>12757632The fuck are you talking about retard? I'm talking about things like the half-baked stealth mechanic that's used in one mission, or the gang territories that are in the game for 5 minutes, or a lot of the badly designed missions, or the undercooked RPG-lite mechanics like lung capacity and sex appeal that are borderline useless, etc. SA is just a bunch of shit thrown at a wall. The sheer quantity of shit managed overwhelm people when it came out, but now the wow factor is gone you realize that it's just shit and having a huge pile of dung isn't that remarkable..
>>12757539I played through it for the first time last year. I loved it. Thought it was a fine game. The story is good, the missions are fun, and the challenge is fair. When I was a kid I played VC at a friends house and all we did was fuck around in free roam and try to get high wanted levels, as an adult I didn't care about any of that thobeit>>12757665it sounds like you read about the game more than you played it
>>12756732what a normie thread. you're a normie faggot, OP.Go away and have sex with your girlfriend, while us grognards discuss the real gems
>>12756732It loses when it jumps the shark and the missions include flying jetpacks and stealing jets. It goes from being based on a 90s ghetto movie to being science fiction.
I always find it amusing how these faggots come in here and shout REDDIT!! as if it had anything to do with games created before 2007.Really showing your age.
>>12757502>normie games>normieironic
>>12757842>It loses when it jumps the shark and the missions include flying jetpacks and stealing jets. It goes from being based on a 90s ghetto movie to being science fiction. It's a high IQ commentary and parody of black culture. Remember it's written by white people. The genius part is the nogs never get past the first act, they only play the first few missions, so they think the game is a homage
it's easily the worst GTA game I've played people only like it because of all the crap that was shoved into it the story falls off a cliff the second you're taken out of the city
>>12757949I like SA, but yeah, the story peaks during the first Los Santos chapter and never comes close to matching it again.
>>12756734Care to elaborate?>>12757074VC was a broken mess, people suck off it's radio but that's just due to 80's pop music being loved by basically every human. The "atmosphere" is great in that they perfectly captured what they were going for. This also is the case for 3 and SA too, all of these games are pretty equal in atmosphere I'd even extend that to 4. Speaking of 4 wasn't a huge downgrade but I do agree that it was a downgrade from SA in a few areas. Now 5 was an outright improvement on 4 in almost every way but I personally feel that a decade of GTAO has soured a lot of people, myself included, and I just do not care for it anymore.I have hope for 6 to be the SA of this trilogy if you could even call it that but those hopes aren't high.
>>12756936Literally every single 6th gen game looks better than GTA, the game looks like shit thats an objective fact.
>>12758404This was one of the selling points of true crime.
>>12756829GTA is triple A Eurojank
>>12757032literally every single GTA game since 1 has had stuff like paramedic and firefighter side missions getting infinite sprint and being made fireproof are both very useful buffs. and being able to go around and interact with everything you can see is precisely what makes a game worth playing for an extended period of time. when all you have is the story missions, you're not incentivised to do anything other than beeline to the finish line and move on to the next title.
>>12757502no, you just had helicopter parents that bought you a GameCube instead of a PS2 and you've been seething about it ever since. >those grapes were probably sour anyway
>>127580253 doesn't have any deliberate 'atmosphere' it's just a generic "american modern city" as seen through the eyes of a 26 year old Scotch game dev in 2001.
>>12759256Nah bruv, it absolutely has atmosphere and it's wholey unique, there is nothing else like it.
>>12756734the game came out before you were born, so you weren't allowed to play it
>>12756829If you think that GTA SA is a bad looking game, check Spider Man 2GTA SA PS2 version is a masterpiece on a CRT.>>12757532you just described GTA 3 and VC. SA is the opposite.
>>12759250I had an xbox, gc, ps2 and dreamcast because I wasnt poor. my parents gave absolutely no fucks and bought us gta3 (gathered dust), silent hill, resident evil, DOA volleyball, literally whatever game we wanted.
>>12757539>10 years old in 2004 and the only other games you've ever played are Spyro and Sly CooperHoly shit that is incredibly gay, did you watch brokeback mountain too faggot?
>>12759246San Andreas is so bloated that it actually has far less to do than the other two games. That was my biggest takeaway when I replaced it. It has all this shit to do in it that blew my mind when I was 15, but I don't give a shit about playing pool, or eating fried chicken, or getting a tattoo, or taking a girl on a date, or going to the gym or any of the other worthless micro events in the game anymore, and anything with a slight amount of substance is stretched across these massive areas that it just becomes boring. I replayed the whole series and 3 and VC are still great because they're focused and well designed and don't try to do anything they can't pull off. San Andreas on the other hand is just a massive map made huge for no reason, with nothing to actually do in it, and a bunch of awful scripted missions that keep introducing random mechanics or scenarios the game isn't built to handle.
>>12756732I have fond memories of playing this game in the early 00's. I would steal my brothers 50mg Vyvanse and play this game for hours on end, gritting my teeth and sweating, good times.
>>12759893>I don't give a shit about playing pool, or eating fried chicken, or getting a tattoo, or taking a girl on a date, or going to the gym or any of the other worthless micro events in the game anymoreYou don't give a shit about doing any of that IRL too and that's why you're depressed
Spelled Kingdom Hearts II wrong.
>san fierro>can import cars at the docks>can modify those cars too>can't ever race them apart from one singular lowrider race and the badlands A race (which happens before reaching SF btw)man what a waste of a feature
is it gay if i always remove cj's shirt to see the tats on put on him?
>>12762091it's such a waste of a feature that many people don't even know it exists, because this specific mod shop is very obscure to even know it can do it
>>12762449nah what else are tats for
>zoomers or speedrunners streaming GTA>forced to use custom music or turn music to zero volume to avoid copyright claimsIt's actually insane how much of the atmosphere and fun of the games is lost not listening to the radio songs.YOU SEE I'VE BEEN THROUGH THE DESERT ON A HORSE WITH NO NAME
>>12762091I beat the game twice and this is the first time I’ve heard about this
