>According to series producer Keiji Inafune, Mega Man & Bass was intended for younger players who still owned a Super Famicom and did not have the means to experience Mega Man 8 on one of the newer systems.
>Inafune required them to make the game "as hardcore as possible".[1]
>>
Yeah, 8 seemed like a game for small children while R&F seemed aimed more towards seasoned gamers.

I don't care what people say. I love Inafune

>Mega Man 7 made in 3 months
>Dead Rising 1 existing at all because of his push towards American style games
>>
>>12757250
He was a good producer and team leader. He was not the sole mind behind rock, nor did he choose the right western studios for the later west initiatives though.

>Inafune works at Capcom
>plenty of Mega Man games, but they're low effort rushed games that struggle to evolve the formula, and every so often are worse than their predecessors
>Inafune leaves Capcom
>no Mega Man at all
It's a complicated relationship.
If Inafune hadn't pushed so hard for quantity over quality maybe the franchise would have built a better reputation and there would be demand for new games.
And yet without him we're in an even worse situation.

Before 11 came out, MM2 and X were thr only ones that sold anything worth a damn. Which doesn't surprise me really, but what DOES surprise me is 11 was thr best-selling MM game ever iirc and thrn thry just...didn't make more, instead opting to do steam ports/remasters of series collections. Don't get me wrong, I love the BN collection, but you know what would be even better? A new BN game.

>>plenty of Mega Man games, but they're low effort rushed games

All games are ultimately rushed because they have to stop being worked on, but there's rushed but good (MM7), and rushed but bad (MMX7)

Hell I don't even know if X7 is rushed. They had 3 years since the launch of the PS2 to make a good first impression Mega Man game.

if you can do king stage 2 with mega man you may well be the ultimate gamer
>>
>>12757321
Inti pumped out the best Mega Man games ever back-to-back over 7 years. Quality wasn't the problem; the problem is the stupid cheesy 80's Saturday morning cartoon rebrand of Rockman to "Mega Man" that absolutely killed the brand's viability decades later.

The problem was the forced 3d, X8 mostly plays fine
>>
>>12757237
and yet MM8 is more fondly remembered and more fun to play
>>
>make the easy game for adults
>make the bullshit hard game for children
Pursuit of difficulty confirmed for being childish. Adults play games to relax, not suffer.

I enjoyed them both immensely. Being able to play as the bad guy is cool.

I think the issue was that the formula was so good and the underlying mechanics so satisfying that it didn't really seem like there was a need to innovate. Which to be fair, I largely agree with, since I think that all of the NES MM games are excellent

The same could be said of something like SMW, yet Yoshi's Island and Mario 64 were made anyway. Failing to evolve the Mega Man formula is good in the sense that they haven't screwed up the main series yet, but I think it's a huge missed opportunity.

>yet Yoshi's Island and Mario 64 were made anyway
You mean the two gay, childish games that killed traditional Mario and spearheaded Nintendo devs making games for themselves instead of the players?
