Time marches on.

I just never got rid of the one I got back in the 90s, what did I do?
>>
>>12759006
>what did I do?
This
>>
>one in completely new conditioin with no marks of any kind
Just get one of those new shells and screen covers, unless you're a collector why would you choose this one? Game Boys are like $30 "buy it now" on ebay.
>>
>>12759034

That's not new condition you hood rat
>>12759041
Ebay isn't used in Japan
>>
>>12759063
>That's not new condition
Neither is the one in the picture. The Japanese says (among other things) "damaged, dirty".
>>
>>12759063
>Ebay isn't used in Japan
So what?
>>
>>12759084
That's what I'm saying you retard
>>12759092
So people in Japan who have to deal with these prices aren't going to be buying shit on ebay.
>>
>>12759098
>So people in Japan who have to deal with these prices aren't going to be buying shit on ebay
So what? You aren't Japanese, why do you care?
>>
>>12759112
Because (you) did >>12758997
>>
>>12759098
they put that up in a tourist trap in akihibara to bait foreigners. japs dont care about retro
>>
>>12759063
What god damned significance does "used in Japan" have to do with your ability to own a Gameboy? Even if you lived in Japan you could still buy used off of ebay.
>>
>>12759098
>So people in Japan who have to deal with these prices aren't going to be buying shit on ebay.
Yes, they will. Ebay works just fine in Japan and there are many domestic sellers.
>>
>>12759063
>Ebay isn't used in Japan
what are you talking about? last time I was looking for original DMG shell and butyons there was a seller in japan with a massive amount of listings ranging from like new to disgusting found in garbage only for parts.

>80 burgerbucks for an old GB with a scratched screen
Yeah, it's over. Fifteen years ago these were like $20
>>
>>12758997
I didn't do anything since I still have my original transparent Game Boy from the mid-90s. But in a way I prefer to emulate Game Boy games via my Wii on a CRT since I completely forgot how dark and dim the Game Boy screen actually is.
>>
>>12759185
>I completely forgot how dark and dim the Game Boy screen actually is.
go outside. thats what its designed for.
>>
>>12759165
Does Polywatch work on Gameboy screens?
>>
>>12759034
the new shells are way shittier than OEM
>>
>>12759192
Maybe he lives in the Nordics.
>>
>>12759002
Yeah, and electronics should lose value as they become obsolete.
>>
>>12759219
and they do.
and then they go back up again as they get rarer and more collectible.
>>
>>12759165
Fifteen years ain't exactly yesterday, bud.
>>
>>12759285
Well they should become e-waste.
>>
>>12758997
I just emulate and don't buy overpriced crap.
>>
>>12758997
>search ebay
>find gameboy for <$100
nice

>go to /vr/
>see cringe thread posted by fucking moron
cringe retards. god you're such a cringe retard. embarrassing.

>>12759165
>$20
around that price yea. add inflation, getting to modern day prices on ebay minus the grifter tax and shipping. i still see broken ones for that price at times. usually screen. easy to fix.
>>
>be Japanese Hard Off manager
>used to toss stuff like GBs in 500 yen bins or whatever without a second thought
>hear tales of wealthy overseas collectors and YouTubers going to Hard Offs and paying out the ass for old games
>an original GB in passable condition shows up among your shop's intake
>no longer will it go to the junk bin
>put it in display case with a ridiculous price tag
>the internet has convinced you a bakagaijin will roll up any minute to buy it
>they don't
>just random gaijin taking photos to post online so people can laugh at the price
>seethe endlessly because these old games were going to be your big payday
>refuse to lower price
>GB sits unsold in that case for years
Stories of wealthy foreign YouTubers is to aging Japanese shopkeeps what "Your kids' old toys could be worth millions" internet articles are to American "I know what I have, no lowballers" babyboomers.

I currently cover all my retro gaming with a 3DS and a Wii U. No non-HDMI-ready device will enter this house.

Why would I purchase anything else when only these two natively play GBA, NGC, DS, 3DS, Wii, and Wii U, and I can use my NES Mini and SNES Mini controllers for Virtual Console? I can even use the official N64 controller on Wii U or the new NSO Switch 2 GC controller with BlueRetro. For the love of god, I'm not going to even try to connect a Famicom or SNES anymore to a flat screen and I DONT FUCKING WANT A HUGE TV ON MY HOME. My low lag monitors are PERFECTLY FINE.

WHY THE HECK WOULD I WANT TO PLAY MY GAME BOY GAMES ON THAT SCREEN ANYMORE? OR EVEN USE A GBA WHEN I HAVE A FUCKING 3DS THAT PLAYS THEM **NATIVELY**.

YouTubers and braindead TikTok consoomers made OP's pic, not retro gamers.
>>
>>12759687
Personally, I like the original GB screen for playing original GB games, but I agree that for a lot of people it isn't worth the effort and expense. People should play old games however is convenient for them.
>>
>>12759137
Kanako Urai would have a word with you.
>>
>>12759137
It's in a Hard Off. Their prices aren't going to change much regardless of where you go, they're a national chain and the items for sale in their physical stores are used as stock for their online store. I don't know why you guys have this stupid meme where you think games are going to be cheaper in the middle of bumfuck nowhere but that's just not true in 2026.
>>
>>12759676
>just random gaijin taking photos to post online so people can laugh at the price
The photo was posted to X by a Japanese guy, and unfortunately foreigners are paying the insane prices.
>>
I bought mine for $15 around 2010
>>
>>12759687
>No non-HDMI-ready device will enter this house
There's two devices in your photo that don't have HDMI ports, retard.
>>
>>12758997
no i didn't . im not nippongoese. and im definitely not a collector.
>>
>>12759620
that's part of how they get rarer, yes.

look at comic books: only reason old comics were ever valuable was because people threw them right in the trash after reading, so good condition comics that survived into the new millennium are rare.
now every dork bag and boards his entire collection in an air conditioned room hoping to strike it rich, ironically guaranteeing that none of them will see a dime.

The only need for an actual DMG-001 in current year is if you're planning to make chiptunes with LSDJ. Even then, you still need to mod with pro sound, so you might as well go the extra mile and mod the screen and shell as well. All you really need is a beat up DMG with a working PCB and some time to tinker.

I bought my Sega Saturn at a Hard Off for $15 in the box. I went to Hard Offs all around Shikoku and Tokyo. The selection is different in every store. This is some meme store in akihabara that gets a lot of s.oyim coming in and buying anything they see
>>
>>12759165
I bought a "broken" Game Boy earlier this year for like $30. All I had to do was clean the battery terminals and it worked just fine. Keep your eyes open, a lot of stupid people don't know what they have.
>>
I got an OGboy last year for 10 dollars along with a bunch of 5 dollar Wiis. Ended up being better shape than my original once since it didn't have any yellowing.
>>
>>12759112
Nta but I live in Japan so I'd theoretically care. Not that I buy retro games anyway. Roms and emulators are free.

I mean, you should know by now.. there's no "bubble" to the prices, nothing wil "pop" in our favor.

Get what you want now, or emulate.
Actually, with the whole memory and AI situation now with the prices and websites getting shut down... not even emulation will be an option if you don't BACK UP YOUR SHIT NOW.

"Bro a got an INSANE deal in Japan, saved over $200 bucks on games and consoles!"
> Spend $2000 on flight
> Spend $200 on hotels
> Spend $100 on food

People need to stop thinking going to Japan will save you money

This is why they are poor and own nothing
>>
>>12759041
Still a lot less than $500.
>>
>>12759063
Your Mecari game is weak. Yesterday's price is not today's price. Information asymmetry and geographical arbitrage as a result of it is dead for all but the less desirable consoles and junk. Your window of time to exploit even that is rapidly disappearing. Buy now or cry later.
