I'm Australian so I never gave a shit about Disney growing up, in fact it always made me unreasonably angry in Disney films whenever the characters broke into song instead of just talking like normal fucking people. Given this, I went into Kingdom Hearts expecting to hate it on account of the Disney characters, only to find that the Disney stuff was the only aspect of the writing that was remotely tempered. My friend assured me that KH is "90% Final Fantasy and 10% Disney", but it is in fact 90% Final Sodomy because this is the gayest fucking dialogue I've seen in a video game. From constant platitudes to a complete lack of subtlety, playing Kingdom Hearts for the plot is like watching straight porn to stare at the man's arsehole.

I would have preferred Square's own take on fairy tales and public domain fiction rather than Disney's versions. Kinda like Live A Live type series of different worlds you travel to. Seeing nips tackle stories like the Little Mermaid and Peter Pan would have resulted in some weird, charming shit. Maybe even reuse their other characters to play the roles, like FF9 characters in Alice in Wonderland, where Garnett is Alice, Steiner is a soldier for the Queen of Hearts, Kuja is the Hatter, or a 1001 Arabian Nights world using Chrono Trigger characters. They could have even reused their old Tom Sawyer rpg as a world.
KH1 + KH2 is a peak jrpg experience. Then it all goes to shit, but is still somewhat enjoyable. If you’ve never played the series just do those two games. You aren’t missing anything afterward

I had never played FF before and wasn’t into Disney but I really liked KH1 and 2. I don’t really understand people’s hangups with it that prevent them from ever playing it. I can only tell them to grow up.

I've played most of the series in some version/remake or another [I still haven't played the three most recent games (0.2, III, MoM), something which I plan to rectify this year, nor any of the browser/mobile/whatever the fuck games, which I honestly don't think I will bother playing], and I enjoyed all of them. First game came out in the US when I was 14 and I loved it, both the premise and execution.
A good timeless game.Second one is much better and even more timeless.

Played the first game found it "not bad" but never finished, the gba game was pretty good and the psp game was enjoyable. I don't don't think I will play this series again, I guess this is one of those of those games where you need to be 14 to get it

When I was a young boy I saw Kingdom Hearts at a mom and pop rental place and I didn't rent it because I thought it would be too hard for me to play so I rented Frogger the Great Quest. Yeah I rented a lot of movie tie-in games or shovelware and never gave the series a chance until many years later. Biggest gaming regret I've ever had.
