Just beat Halo CE (2003 PC port) for the first time on Heroic difficulty. No widescreen, no mods.Level 1.>Manual says that human weapons are weak against alien shields and that alien weapons are weak against flesh, but the "iconic" marine rifle is so fucking worthless compared to any other weapon that I get better results by using it as a cudgel (tap-firing it for better accuracy doesn't help either)>Aim assist mechanic can't be turned off, which makes alien weapons feel less accurate when I'm trying to lead my shots because they automatically shoot where the enemies are instead of where they will be>Rechargable shield mechanic slows the pace down to a crawl as it forces me to disengage and wait for it to recharge all the time, which gives Elites time to recharge their shields as well, making combat a slog if I don't have grenades or a plasma pistol>Weapon-draw animations can be interrupted by reloading but not by shooting>Plasma pistol's charged shot will chase down the nearest enemy instead of the one I'm aiming at>Medkits flashbang my screen, which isn't very fucking nice during combat>Level design is a repetitive set of hallways with identical textures
Level 2.>Enemy Banshees at the start will spot me regardless of what I do and won't go away until I kill one of them, which alerts all the other enemies so it's easier to just kill everybody from the get-go>Banshees also bumble around and crash into trees, mountains, rocks and the ground while trying to attack me>Kill aliens up the hill, run back to the drop pod for ammo, then go back up the hill holding W with nothing else to do in this giant empty map for several minutes>Can't destroy those annoying Covenant dropship turrets>Tree foliage (not the trunk) physically blocks grenade throws>If I crouch, throw a grenade and let go of the crouch button, I can't stand back up until the throw animation ends>Enemies somehow have more trouble hitting me when I'm strafing them in the open than when I'm actually taking cover>Game autosaves checkpoints on a whim at the worst of times and the "Load Last Checkpoint" option loads the last checkpoint that the game autosaved, instead of the one I manually saved, so I have to quit to the main menu in order to load any checkpoint made before the most recent one>Genetically-engineered supersoldier wearing a power suit jumping around with Moon gravity physics takes dies from a measly 10-foot drop>Can't drive the Warthog in a traditional manner since steering is done with the mouse, so I can't drive and watch my surroundings independently, and maneuvering around objects at top speed requires me to jerk the mouse left and right like a retard
Level 3.>Enemies don't get alerted when their friends get sniped a couple feet away from them>Unalerted enemies don't see me if I stand behind their translucent purple shields, as if I were completely invisible to them>Marine teammates don't know how to take cover and run in front of me when the fighting starts, begging to be shot in the back of the head>Using any mounted turret zooms the camera out to third-person, so far behind me in fact that I have to lean forward to see what I'm aiming at>Shooting the alien turret further obscures what I'm shooting at because of all the flashy purple glitter effects that don't let me see anything>Aliens don't take cover or throw grenades at me when I'm sitting in a turret, instead just running into the open to die>Two big alien dudes drop in, and I kill them just by holding mouse button 1 in the turret as they miss every single shot from their grenade launchers>Enter ship, frag some enemies in a mandatory locked room sequence>Big dudes show up again, and their melee attacks are countered by... walking backwards a little bit>Thrown live grenades can detonate grenade item pickups on the ground, causing chain reactions that can randomly kill me>Can't use flashlight when the invisible powerup is active>Can't have the alien grenade launcher or the alien sword because that would be too fun for this game I guessLevel 4.>The most common enemies in the game so far are weak cannon-fodder grunts called "goys" that are afraid of fighting, run for their lives and die crying because the devs are sadistic I guess>MOTION tracker can't detect cloaked enemies that are moving around but can detect non-cloaked enemies when they're moving around behind walls, which is functionally the same thing (what does visual cloaking have to do with motion detection?)>Big dudes forget I exist if I walk away from them>Half the level is just hallways and more hallways that look the same
>>12762379>2003 PC portWhy are you torturing yourself? Unless you installed a billion mods the graphics look like ass and the animations are capped to 30 FPS.
Level 5.>Enemies can kill me while I'm inside a fucking tank simply by shooting at it, as if I'm the armor protecting the tank instead of the other way around>Just like the Warthog, I can't move in one direction while looking in another direction, so I can't turn the turret independently while maneuvering the tank in combat>"Groundbreaking" enemy AI runs out into the open, charges at my tank and gets run over>"Groundbreaking" friendly AI runs out into the open, charges at my tank to hop onto it for a ride and also gets run over because we're in the middle of combat and I'm trying to dodge enemy fire>More hallways and rooms copypasted over and over againLevel 6.>Really cool concept at first, but ultimately squandered by the inclusion of zombies that with guns, which makes them less scary and far too similar to any other enemy in the game that has a gun>Rechargable shield also greatly diminishes the horror aspect of the level>Zombies have no concept of elevation, so they'll swipe at the air directly below me if I'm standing on a platform above them or vice-versa (is this the so-called threat to the entire galaxy?)>Marine rifle finally becomes useful for something (clearing up the popcorn enemies), but quickly becomes useless again once I realize I can just walk past/through the popcorn swarms without getting hurt>Finally got a shotgun... halfway through the game>Can't have the flamethrower weapon because that would be too fun for this game I guessLevel 7.>A good challenge, but unfortunately hampered by repetitive level design yet again>Constantly running through the map would've been more interesting than having to wait around for doors to open>End the fucking level already dude, the fourth floor is identical to the previous three>Why didn't Guilty Spark just teleport me to the fourth floor to begin with?
>>12762390>WhyTo find out what the fuss was all about. I don't want to play this with a controller, to be honest.Level 8.>Expected a bossfight against Guilty Spark and his sentinel drones in the control room (which clearly looks like a bossfight room), but it's just four drones and then it's over>Back to the same repetitive hallways from level 5, because it literally just reuses level 5>Underground section forces me to go on foot to the last objective; just give me a fucking loading screen next time>High-powered anti-materiel sniper rifle with scarce ammo and low magazine capacity that fires .57-cal APFSDS rounds deals no damage to alien tanks or rocket-launcher-wielding zombies - two targets it would be very useful against>Human weapons are weak against Sentinels even when they have no shields, but alien weapons are still very effective, so what's the point of the whole "use certain weapons for certain situations" aspect of the gunplay?Level 9.>Half of it is just level 3 again>Game replaces my weapons on every level so I don't even bother holding onto anything anymore>Just letting the zombies and aliens duke it out at this point since the combat is boring>Simplistic AI prioritizes shooting me, who's watching from afar, over an enemy that's current punching them in the face, if they somehow spot me while fighting>Game spams explosive zombies because devs couldn't think of a better way to prevent me from just walking past most encounters>Game spams zombies with guns because devs couldn't think of a way to make a zombie outbreak intimidating enough
Level 10.>Exact same repetitive corridors as level 1, since it's just level 1 again>The crashed ship could've had the last few remnants of the marines making a desperate last stand against the aliens, flood and sentinels but that would be too exciting for this game I guess, so it's just me here>Come across an armory room full of weapons, the first actual instance of rewarding the player for exploring the map... wasn't this armory room completely empty in level 1?>Ship's engine room straight up looks like an unfinished level>No final boss at all, just shoot some rockets into four vents and leave>Escape sequence is just another set of repetitive hallways, like 80% of this fucking game has been>Get randomly instakilled at the very end of the level by a shotgun flood zombie glitch that happens when it shoots me at the exact moment it dies from being run over by the Warthog>Do the fucking escape sequence from the start all over again>Stick a plasma grenade to the face of the last Elite that's in the way as I walk to the final cutscene trigger>The End>Level select menu doesn't let me choose specific sections of levels, so I have to go through an entire level from the start just to get to the specific section I want to replay if I don't save an autosave of it
Plot (1/2).>It's just a generic "aliens want to kill us" plot>In fact, his game is the definition of generic sci-fi shooter, because everything about it looks bland and uninspired>Humanity has been at war with the Covenant for 32 years and still hasn't developed more effective weapons against alien shields, like the weapons the aliens themselves have>It boggles the mind that humanity is losing a war against cartoon characters that whiff grenade throws and run away at the first sign of trouble, or lose their patience when their shields go down and run out of cover straight into gunfire to die>The original plan, according to the manual, was for humans to board a Covenant ship and find out where the alien homeworld is in order to turn the tide of the war>And they do find themselves inside a Covenant ship in the actual game>Cortana and Keyes have an entire conversation inside the ship's command center, and she even hacks the Covenant battle net, yet they don't extract this invaluable piece of information for some reason>Keyes says that Cortana's data chip can't be captured otherwise the aliens will discover Earth's location, but then he himself gets captured by the aliens, and they don't datamine his neural implant chip to get that info for some reason>The Flood novel says that the Covenant were on the human ship at the final level to find information on Earth, which is something they didn't think to until the very end of the game for some reason>The fucking FLOOD has this very obvious idea when it infects Keyes and figures it out on its own>The Covenant had several capital ships loitering above Halo but didn't support the ground troops for some reason; evading orbital bombardment from them in level 8 amidst all the chaos would've made things actually interesting
Plot (2/2).>Keyes and Johnson, the supposed "war veterans", fall for the world's most obvious ambush, being too stupid and/or stubborn to retreat and close the door behind them when the Flood shows up so everyone dies (why is a high-ranking officer like Keyes personally leading this very dangerous mission instead of sending scouts? He's already been captured once)>Cortana accuses Guilty Spark of "tricking" Chief into starting up the Halocauster 9000 by "hiding information">Guilty Spark, who's just doing his job, looks at Chief and Cortana like they're both retarded and rightfully asks "I thought you knew what the Halocauster 9000 you so desperately want to use actually does?">Cortana fucking knew and didn't tell Chief anything BEFORE sending him away to the Flood facility>And Chief, despite admitting that he doesn't understand what's happening, didn't bother to ask what it actually does>Guilty Spark threatens to kill Chief and take Cortana away when they give up on the Halocaust plan... and then he just leaves?>But then Guilty Spark shows up in the wreckage of the human capital ship at the final level to prevent Chief from nuking Halo, not because he's trying to protect Halo from being nuked, but because he wants to categorize data about irrelevant shit instead of doing his job, so all that rushing to take down the pulse generators was pointless because Guilty Spark was already too distracted by his own autism to activate Halo>Why is the Flood ON Halo to begin with if Halo exists to exterminate the Flood?>Why does neither the Flood containment facility, nor Halo itself, have any self-destruct systems in case of an outbreak?>Why didn't Chief and Cortana simply suggest to Guilty Spark that nuking Halo instead of the universe would be a far better solution to contain the Flood, since the outbreak happens ON Halo?>Cool main menu song though, I wonder who was the lady that sang the middle part... oh it was actually a dude4/10.

>>12762408>But what about [other game]I didn't compare it to any other game in any of my posts, nor would I defend similar bullshit elsewhere.
>>12762408Halo on Legendary is harder than some of my favorite FPSes because of checkpoint saving and it makes me wonder how many casual PC players who love garbage like Blood hate Halo because of that reason
Im not really reading all that but did u like the dogshit level when you first get the shotgun and walk thru the same copy n pasted corridor t0 times?
>>12762418I'm currently trying out Legendary, and while it fixes some of the issues from Heroic, it's far more tedious. The game simply buffs enemy stats/spawns and nerfs your shields. The lift section that brings you into the alien ship on level 3 sent like 15 waves of enemies before the two big dudes showed up, and Elites take so long to die that I'm getting sick of hearing my own plasma pistol sounds. I sure hope escorting Keyes' NPC isn't the slog I'm expecting it to be...
>>12762402>The Flood novelyou disliked the game but read a novel of it?
>>12762432I didn't read it, but I decided to be fair and look the info up since the novel came out before this port, so there was some context available even if the game itself didn't explain it.
>>12762431>sick of hearing my own plasma pistol soundsFast tapping the plasma rifle is way more effective at downing Elites.
>>12762428I didn't mind the flood level as much as the others, funnily enough, since there's no objective besides running and gunning against unshielded enemies.>>12762475I'm aware, but since the pistol is so readily available and the charged shot removes their shields right away, I usually just follow up with a grenade to make sure they have no time to react, and at that point I don't waste time switching weapons to make sure they die before their shields can come back.
>>12762418>screeching about blood out of nowherei swear man that game has a special gift of causing severe asspain. let me guess: you started the game on extra crispy and thought it was going to be a cakewalk?
You didn't beat the game
>muh aiseriously, what is a shooter with what you consider good ai? it kind of has to be dumb, because realistic combat is not fun in a video game. that being said i feel like halo's was more than adequate for the style of game it was.
>>12762607>what is a shooter with what you consider good ai?You're asking for a comparison, which will inevitably lead to someone shifting the conversation towards the games you want me to compare Halo to. I'm judging the game's merit by 2001 standards that people claim it set for the genre.
>>12762403>4/10.doesnt mean anything. You have to present a list of about 100 relevant games and their ratings before I will even treat this number as anything but a worthless brain bubble. You need to provide context to your methodology and demonstrate consistency in your opinions if you want to be seen as a critic.
>>12762402>>It's just a generic "aliens want to kill us" plotit's actually way more than that if you pay attention to the story but you don't seem that interested in doing so>>It boggles the mind that humanity is losing a war against cartoon charactersbecause you are a fucking super soldier bioengineered from a young age to be the ultimate weapon against the covenant. they call you "the demon". they are scared shitless of you. the rest of the military are not you.>>Cortana fucking knew and didn't tell Chief anything BEFORE sending him away to the Flood facilityno she didn't. she was just as ignorant about the installation as chief when they got to the control room. she learned about its true mechanisms when she stayed behind.>Guilty Spark was already too distracted by his own autism to activate Halohe literally says he can't due to his protocol. why do you think he nudges chief so hard to do everything?not reading anymore. you seem to be autistically dead set on finding something to hate about the game around every corner.
>>12762664>It's actually way more than that if you pay attention to the storyAliens want to kill us all for unexplained religious reasons. If Halo wasn't there when they did the hyperspace jump, it was over.>no she didn'tShe did, the moment she was plugged into Halo's control room. She literally pauses mid-explanation about how "Halo is a weapon designed to..." (exterminate all sentient life to stop the Flood from spreading). That's his role to activate Halo, which he just stops working towards to fuck around in the ship's data banks.
>>12762676>Aliens want to kill us all for unexplained religious reasons. >>12762684I know the sequels explain it, but having to play sequels for the original game to make sense just puts the writing into question to be honest. They could've at least made the cause of this 32-year war vague for the player to ask questions but the manual literally just says "we met the Covenant and they started attacking us". No failed diplomacy, no accidental first shot, no accidental trespass, no introduction to the aliens, not even a named alien antagonist leading the Covenant forces on Halo. It just doesn't stand out, that's why I called it generic.
OP is a bot and you retards are still replying
>>12762806>No failed diplomacy, no accidental first shot, no accidental trespass, no introduction to the aliens, not even a named alien antagonist leading the Covenant forces on Halo. It just doesn't stand out, that's why I called it generic.Something that Jason Jones, creator of Halo, wanted to avoid was bombarding the player with lore and cutscenes. If you want the backstory to Halo, you can read Nylund's books and Contact Harvest.>Jason Jones: In a lot of ways, Halo 2 is just the extension of all the excitement we felt at the end of Halo 1 that we didn't get to express.>Jason Jones: There's a lot of the story that we didn't get to tell. There are characters that we had conceived of and, in some cases, even modeled. And it's also the same group of people too, and they all still want to do what they're doing.>Joseph Staten: This is the copy of the script, the cinematic script for Halo. This document needs to talk to programmers and artists and animators and everybody. This is 160 pages worth of cinematics. That's kind of crazy if you just think about it on its own, but when you look at a game which is 15 levels long, with a couple of protagonists and a fairly complex story arc—when you need to drive the player's experience for 20 hours of gameplay—say, 120 minutes of cinematics doesn't really seem that out of proportion. But just to look at it prima facie, it's pretty daunting. You think, "My God, you're making a feature film.">Jason Jones: It's not about making it complex, and it's not about playing movies for you—two hours of movies between every five minutes of gameplay. But the more you can make somebody believe that they're in this cool place, that they're on Halo fighting the Covenant instead of sitting in their living room at two in the morning trying to finish some stupid video game...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0q69Msy8ttM
>>12762809Schizo faggot>>12762819>wanted to avoid bombarding the player with lore and cutscenesWhy is there so much focus on that in the campaign then? The cutscene that introduces the Flood takes like 5 entire minutes. Other cutscenes in the game also can't be skipped.I get that they had a lot to tell but they should've locked down what little they put in the game. I was legitimately asking myself why Keyes ran off to some swamp to find a "weapons cache" on spotty intel without Chief helping him. Getting to Halo's control center was already too much for a stranded group of survivors of a crashed ship surrounded by aliens, and at first glance it just looks like things are going unexplained and people are dying off-screen. Cortana just casually mentions that Chief has been gone for 12 hours between the Flood facility and the Library.
>>12762379Halo CE's original PC port is fucking busted and you can get the Master Chief Collection version for peanuts, idk why you're deliberately choosing to play the ugliest jankiest version of this gane
>>12762978I figured later versions of the game would be easier or have reworked/removed features, mechanics etc. as it was seen back in 2003. >>12762995>I figured later versions of the game would be easier or have reworked/removed features, mechanics etc. as it was seen back in 2003. God knows what excuses I'd hear if I played some non-kosher "fixed" version from a decade later that doesn't represent the actual game or dared disable aim assist to have a better first impression...The best versions are the original Xbox version and Halo MCC Steam version. Halo Gearbox is a notoriously busted port
>>12762379I won't comment on the weird control/aim issues you're experiencing, because most/all of them aren't present on Xbox. There are some other port issues in there that I won't comment on, either. I don't know a single person that played Halo predominantly on PC, but I've also never looked into how you'd play it nowadays if you didn't own an Xbox.Level 1The default assault rifle is famously bad, yes. Weapons were rebalanced in the sequel.Medkit flashbang is also really annoying. HP regens like shields in the sequel.>Rechargable shield mechanic slows the pace down to a crawl... but is still faster than disengaging from combat entirely to look for medkits, like in a game without regenerating HP. It sounds like you're getting shot way too much, which is a skill issue, not part of the game mechanics.Level design is not repetitive, but the aesthetics are to some degree. The actual level has various combat set pieces, like the one with the big stairway in the middle and the Covenant holding the high ground. It's also a spaceship, how many wall textures do you expect to see? They included those bits where you walk through the darkened access routes as well.Level 2The banshees do notice you easily. You can just run past them. It is funny that they crash into stuff if you stay to fight. You can't destroy the dropships or their turrets, deal with it. It's a giant alien vehicle and you're wielding small arms.Tree foliage has branches in it. Hide behind cover where you aren't exposed, or else it isn't "cover", is it?The checkpoints are normally at decent spots. I've beaten the game on Legendary several times without any manual checkpoint save functionality. I've never had to restart a level because of a bad checkpoint, in any Halo, any year, ever. The fall damage accumulates bizarrely quickly in CE, even if it's unrealistic. It's dropped in the sequel.Your entire post is just bitching, I notice, with no positives noted. I won't bother replying further.
>>12763101>no positives notedThere are some there, and some more here.>Pretty good and surprisingly accurate shotgun>Outside areas of Halo and Silent Cartographer look nice, and the whole game should've been like that>Ambient Wonder is a great track>Flood enemies are fun to fight>Warthog is fun to drive>Night skyboxes look great>Landing plasma grenades on enemies is coolBut otherwise it's not special.>but is still faster than disengaging from combat entirely to look for medkitsDisengaging to recharge shields lets Elites recover theirs, that's what slows it down. And they take cover very often. Having armor that goes down and doesn't recover would at least guarantee that the fight doesn't last several minutes.>Level design is not repetitiveIt fucking is. This is non-negotiable unless you have goldfish memory. There were moments where I was downright wondering if I was going around in circles on some levels because indoor areas repeated so often. And as it turned out, I wasn't going in circles. I even see people who praise the game saying this is a major downside. You can't look at the Pillar of Autumn or the Library and pretend otherwise.>how many wall textures do you expect to see?I expect to see standard semiotic since it has so many references to Ridley Scott's Alien movies, because I have wondered out loud how often the Pillar of Autumn's crew must've gotten lost in their own ship since there's barely any labels or signage or panels of any sort throughout most of the level.>Invincible enemies, deal with itEvery other threat in the game can be dealt with but not this annoyance? And you just accept it?>Tree foliage has branches in itThat look too flimsy to stop a grenade. You can shoot and walk through them, but if you throw a grenade it bounces back at you. It's idiotic.>The checkpoints are normally at decent spotsIt often saves when a new combat phase is about to start rather than right after a combat phase ends giving less time to restock.
>getting filtered by haloEmbarrassing
>>12763179I only looked for positives in Level 1/2; didn't read further.Elites recover, but the game is balanced for you to win. If there are nine enemies at the start, you should whittle them down to three or so before taking cover. One or two of the survivors might be elites that had taken damage, but with so few enemies left you should be able to clean them out on the next go. Having to handle the fights with precision and evasion is what makes it immersive, high-stakes, and highly impacted by skill. If you could weather every fight on one HP pool and then collect pick-ups to top it off afterward, you wouldn't be immediately incentivized to reduce incoming damage and take fights tactically. If things are taking that long, you're either being overly cautious and regenerating unnecessarily, or not evasive enough and taking too much damage.I have excellent sense of direction, so I never felt lost or like I was going in circles, on Pillar of Autumn or the Library. The latter has abysmal visual variation, though, I'll agree with you there. I've played many games with greater visual repetition than Pillar of Autumn, so I just can't see what you're describing, personally. The dropships are just that, an annoyance. The turrets do low damage and the projectiles travel slowly. Hide behind a rock for 10 seconds while it disgorges troops if you have to, and then go back at it. Total non-issue. The sequel makes them destructible though, you'll be happy to know.OK, then maybe they should have been non-colliding, agreed. I don't recall ever encountering that issue, so it's exceedingly minor anyway. If it checkpoints at a new combat phase for some reason, that means you already had the time to restock. Most levels have open layouts, so you can back up if you somehow have a completely unusable weapon combination for the next fight. You shouldn't be dying at every checkpoint anyway. I'm getting a strong feeling that you should have started with Normal.
>>12763227>you should whittle them down to three or so before taking coverIt's very obvious that picking off unshielded enemies first is the main course of action, I didn't miss that, but it doesn't stop Elites from facetanking when it's their turn to die. In fact I would argue that the shield mechanic incentivizes slower combat as once your shields drop, you take permanent health damage, health kits are rather scarce, so it's often better to play safe than kill everyone quickly in exchange for some HP. It's not so difficult as it is a tedious process. Honestly, if they had implemented the energy sword into the campaign I might have had a better opinion because I like baiting them around corners killing them in melee.>Total non-issueIt is still annoying, anon. I'd really rather just kill them as I have everything else since I'm often waiting around for Elites to come out so i can stick grenades on them before they get a chance.>that means you already had time to restockIt's very noticeable in large areas with enemy corpses strewn about everywhere, unless you corall them into a single spot by waiting around, which then becomes the issue of fights taking too long again. By the way I'm on Legendary right now and I've just had a checkpoint save in the middle of the fight at the alien capital ship's hangar section on mission 3, surrounded by enemies that spawned immediately before it saved.>getting a strong feeling that you should have started with NormalHeroic wasn't difficult, it's just mostly boring.>inb4 why play it thenTo make a fair case so I won't dislike something I haven't played.
Also, why doesn't the UNSC have grenade launchers as standard equipment on their rifles in the year 2552? That would've been a fantastic Elite killer.
>>12763263You do take permanent health damage, but you don't have to use a medkit each time. You can take minor damage from a few tougher fights each before you really need to look for one, and they're spaced more or less that often. Either way, the regenerating HP from the sequel onward removes the medkit hunting entirely, so they did "fix" that.>capital ship's hangar section on mission 3The big, three story hangar? I recall that as being the toughest fight on Legendary, so good luck.>Heroic wasn't difficult, it's just mostly boring. But that applies to most games. You can always squeeze through a game on an overly difficult setting by slowly grinding your way through, at the cost of time. That may not apply to you, but many of your observations suggest to me that you were playing on a slightly-too-high difficulty for your first time, without realizing it, and it was adding friction/slowdown to your experience. So it wouldn't have seemed difficult in the sense of "this is taking me many tries to succeed", but more that a tough fight that is balanced around 1-2 shield regens is taking you 3+ or forcing you to bait enemies to corners or something. I've played Halo enough that at this point I can breeze through it on Heroic with minimal resistance, and the sweet spot is somewhere in between those. No game is enjoyable when you have to tediously make your way through it.I guess you must have somewhat enjoyed it because you're replaying it on Legendary, despite giving it a 4/10. I would never replay something I considered so lowly.
>>12762379>Aim assist mechanic can't be turned offLies
>>12762395>To find out what the fuss was all about. I don't want to play this with a controller, to be honest.Anon is asking why you are playing the _2003_ PC port.

The worst part about halo is there was a TV show made of it and they made Captain Keyes a nigger.
I played the halo campaign on my OG Xbox. I set it to normal difficulty and basically just ran through. Nothing about the campaign really struck me as spectacular. I went back to my other xbox games and halo sat dormant for a while. It wasnt until I started to play multiplayer with my friends who also had xbox that I began to understand the significance of halo CE. The game improves greatly when played with friends. Co-op was great. TDM and other game muliplater modes were fun. A couple times we even hooked up as 4-way xbox lan party. That was an impressive sight. We had time hump our heavy CRT TVs into our buddies living room and hooking all up. We didnt do this that often. Later, if we only had one console, everyone i knew would want to play legendary co-op. We'd get shit faced drunk and attempt to play legendary. Good times.. the game is significant. Somehow halo 2 didnt get the same attention from us. We all still had it though. But then halo 3 on x360 came out. That was another big one. We did it all again. We'd get shitfaced again and play halo but this time also on our Xbox live accounts. By then we all began to have these newfangled flat panel TVs. This was the greatest time for halo.. its never been that good since. The later halo games never really hit as good as halo 3 and its predecessors. Also, later on many of us started to get older and didnt game together like we used to.
