Why wasn't there more hate against Final Fantasy? They took a serious RPG art form and just added lolanimeshit to it. RPG fans should have been furious that they trivialized it this badly.
>>
nobody knew wtf anime was at the time
people did hate dragon warrior for being too cartoony/chilidish, but final fantasy was pretty much just a copy paste of a D&D monster manual so it never had that issue
>>
Anime was pretty cool in the 90s actually. This feels like a misinformed question.

FF1 doesn't have the anime shit in it, so idk why op woke up and decided to be a faggot today.

>a serious RPG art form

Who do you think was considering "a serious RPG" to exist? And why do you think that type of person was going to play some random NES game? People like that would have thought of console games as being simple arcade action games for the most part and would surely have focused on other platforms. Meanwhile, some minority of kids who played NES games would have blundered into Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy and some fraction of that minority would have fallen in love with them because they are fun, for kids at least.

At what point would any of these people become furious?

Where? The sprite art was too simple and all the games monster art was ripped from monster manual and other D&D books. The games printed manuals and packaging showed nithibg anime related, same as DQ.

We didnt even know dragon quest had anime elements until VII landed in the playstation era. As for fonal fantasy it wasnt really until 7 landed, as even 6 had bizzare 16 bit character portraits that didnt really resemble anime of the era (amano was never a manga artist nor did he draw in that style).

So, you're asking why it didn't straight-up copy other RPGs and that games should only be clearly-defined examples of nebulous "genres" that no one agrees on the definitions of anyway?
What a lame argument.
>serious RPG artform
Oh don't make me laugh. There's nothing serious about escapist fantasy.

Anime website, sharteen.

Game is turbo-autism on steroids. It requires no skill other than not being bored to death by grinding the same monsters with basic attacks for hours, on and on. It got old rather badly, the whole jrpg stuff is only good when slapped as extra mechanic over other kind of game, like hack and slash or shooter or strategy. Is it hatable because of it's novelty and poop mountains of clones it spawned for autist to coonsume? Yes.

Not anymore bitch. USA #1.

It was an extremely faithful AD&D game on a console, in fact the only one. The actual TSR licensed console ganes were all horrible slop. FF stuck closer to first edition rules and progression than dragonlance and all the other console games.
Only PC had decent D&D games at this point, and FF1 had a far larger beastiary than any of them. It was unexpectedly excellent.

No, it had nothing to do with D&D outside of blatantly copying it's bestiary. Game is autistic grind fest that is not only encouraging but forcing on the player farming monsters that are below party level. Also it's fucking bugged and half of spells do nothing, easiest way to win at this game is to stack up party of four fucking warriors, farm best eq and stack yourself up with healing items. just keep pressing A button in all fights. There is no strategy in combat, game is dogshit, was dogshit back than too but it got popular becuase of it's novelty and exploitation of autists. Pure jrpg's are idle games.

The entire spell library too, and stuff like monks and fighters gaining more attacks per round as they level up. All the weird spell limitations (fix hitpoint limit on power word kill, etc) and some being single target, some being wide area. Same as how many spells per level you could cast before resting, they copied that directly from players handbook.

Just like D&D, after level 7 or so you can unequip your monks melee weapon and go open hand for the rest of the game. That was 100% TSR.
The knight was a paladin, with low level cleric spells.
Red mage was the classic fighter/magic user/cleric multiclass which had only lower level spells of each but could still use decent armor and swords.

First edition had modules based on single environments (an ice cave, a volcano adventure, etc) which FF1 followed somewhat. For example in D&D module G2 was an ice cavern full of front giants, winter wolves, ogres, ogre mages, white dragons and even a remoraz (polar worm). The frost cave in FF1 has these exact enemies.

tl;dr
It wasnt just copying the monster manual. The very core of early D&D was what FF1 was built on faithfully.

Nah, you tranime losers can rot in stinking hell with the jeets while Americans and western Europeans have intelligent discussions about actual RPGs.
