How did he come up with all this, it is even futuristic today. Kojima might be the actual GOAT of /vr/

kojima memes are so fucking boring, yeah we get it already 6 7.

>It's the 00s when kids still play outside and save videogames for inside or car rides
>Even a friendless kid didn't play GBA outside because it had a dark non lit screen
>Most kids were more likely to game at night before bedtime after playing outside especially during the summer

Yeah a solar powered kids gba game was a great idea...
>>
>>12765339
That's like the day/night cycles in Pokemon gen2. A neat idea but fucking annoying when I'm a hardcore Pokemon nerd who already has my team planned out and binge for hours at night, because I have yaknow, school, homework, friends, dinner etc 5 days a week
>>
>>12765313
i think many Jap dev team leaders take credit for other people's work on their team, who can't complain about it because it's contrary to Japanese culture to complain about your boss.
>>
>>12765313
it's a dumb gimmick. everyone just plays with a romhack that has the solar power at maximum.
>>
>>12765352
What are weekends
>>
>>12765448
Often spent with friends and family
>>
>>12765339
you can play the game at night though, its just harder but you can save up solar energy during the day and bank it.
>>
>>12765394
nah thats easy mode, I put it at mid level during the day and off at night as intended.
>>
>>12765448
Hell yeah as a 12 year old I would be totally hyped about waiting a whole week to progress my new game so I can catch the Pokemon I want that only comes out before breakfast in one patch of grass
>>
>>12765313
Kojima may be the most overcredited auteur in all of videogames
>>
>>12765585
This but unironically
>>
>>12765585
That really is the problem, it's not cohesive with how Pokemon was established to work. They added it to a formula without accomodations.

They should have had a time skip feature like adding a sleep mode instead of real world clock, or like made ...idk Pokemon kennels where you could get any Pokemon maybe with the caveat of a lower starting level, I don't know, but Pokemon is almost entirely based on custom team building and elemental power strategizing, so making catching Pokemon itself something you had to wait around for was dumb. Wanna keep playing cause you cleared out the town in an hour like most areas in Pokemon, but it's not the right time? Gonna have to skip your catch, who may be the only option for that type because they didn't even balance type distribution well, or backtrack later and fuck up the flow of the game and have to grind because that pokemon you went back for is now way behind your team

Flow matters a lot in Pokemon if you don't want it to feel like work because it's already a pretty tedious basic jrpg, ideally you want any new Pokemon as soon as possible to level up in trainer battles near it that maximize exp, since enemy levels scale with each new progression, it's designed to work that way, it's not nearly as open world as it presents. Grinding in Pokemon is hell, push one button over and over hundreds of times, walk back and forth, rinse repeat. Once you break the illusion of progress/adventure towns trainers and gyms allow it's just really boring and slow
>>
>>12765626
Pokemon are small games that trick you into feeling they're big. As a kid I would usually finish two towns and all peripherally available dungeons/quests in one sitting.
>>
>>12765313
it kinda didnt work very well and was stupid tho
playing in midday sunlight + no backlight was a fucking retarded idea

the only thing kojimbo should be given credit for is predicting outer heaven. fucking wagner retards are out the playing peace walker in the middle of africa rn, and its at least PARTLY kojimbos fault
>>
>>12765626
the game gives you a bike and then later on you can fly and surf and teleport and shit. wtf are you talking about "skip your catch"? just fly back and catch stuff later. whats the hurry? did you never train up any alt mons?

>type distribution
who cares about type distribution? or balance for that matter? why shouldnt most regular common mons be boring subpar normal types? why shouldnt certain rare types be much better than others? why shouldnt bug type suck dick compared to literally everything else? why shouldnt blizzard rape nearly everything in the game? why would there need to be a stronger pokeyman than snorlax?

see, this is why pokeymans descended into this sterile deathspiral its in. because they tried to "fix" it. everything being not-so-balanced is why the older games had SOVL and an identity
>>

skill issue x3

>just fly back and catch stuff later. whats the hurry?
Grinding in Pokemon without trainer battles is boring as shit, so is travelling

>why shouldnt most regular common mons be boring subpar normal types?
Because that's fucking stupid and not appealing to kids

Pokemon is about assembling a team of six monsters you think are the coolest, and pretending to have a game around it.

>How did he come up with all this

>For a game that uses the sun, I knew a sensor would be the best choice. But I had absolutely no idea how to make that happen. As it happened, a little before that Konami had been designing some portable, handheld medical devices equipped with a variety of sensors. And so when that got released on the market, my previously vague concept of “catching the rays of the sun” came into clearer focus—if we attach this sensor to a GBA cart, it could work! That was the official start of everything. It was right around the end of the Metal Gear Solid 2 development.
>>
>>12765313
i remember exactly 1 guy IRL who shilled this game to me at work. saying how cool it was because solar power shit.... in 2011 or so. because apparently his cuntry takes years to import games from previous gens.
i dun geddit. he was also a guy who wanted to start a publishing biz just to sell horror stories, like 2 decades after horror book fell out of fashion.

WHOOOOA KOJIMA
>>
>>12765367
Kojima is the last person you would accuse of keeping ghostwriters in the dark
something as early as Metal Gear 2 MSX had full credits for every single dev involved when other Konami games from the same year still used pseudonyms.
When Snatcher PCE came, then MGS went 3D, he'd include credits at the INTRO. As MGS series went he had staff credit intros for each stage, and MGS3's FMV with the animated staff credits had an alternate version accessible with cheat codes just to fit the VFX and motion capture staff that didn't fit in the original cutscene (and they're still credited separately in the credits)
Then there's the policy where Konami refuses to credit staff who quit mid development or had their parts cancelled and he still insisted on including them either way in the very lengthy special thanks section.
And that's not even a reaction to foreign media dissing him for "A Game by Hideo Kojima" which was requested by their marketing, he just did that way before
>>
>>12768234
that just reminds me that Electronic Arts were one of the first corpos to give full credits to the whole dev team. and now they're evil incarnate.
>>
>>12765339
The game is fucking awesome and the GBA looks best in bright sunlight. Also a car on a nice day out would he plenty of light. You missed out.
>>
>>12765352
You could just change the clock time...
>>
>>12768234
Kojima is a plagiarist and a credit thief.
>>
>>12765339
>save videogames for inside or car rides
What the fuck are you talking about, I played my GBA on my porch all the time because that's how you got the best lighting for the screen. And are cars not covered in windows??
>>
>>12765585
Is that not the entire appeal of Animal Crossing?
>>
>>12765454
Your friends weren't also playing Pokemon for 95% of the time you were hanging out? What kind of weirdos were they?
>>
>>12769151
You're that gay player he was talking about
>>
>>12768365
Which makes this game redundant and gimmicky. There is no reason to have sunlight gimmick on a device... That you gonna play in sunlight. It just makes it annoying when youre inside
>>
>>12765313
It's unique gimmicky shit but he never created actual good gameplay.
>>
Kojima invented sunlight
>>
>>12770762
Im also gonna say, you can have "authentic" experience on phone emulator since that has ambient light sensor and it does work, but it gets even more stupid when weather is cloudy sunny, it turns game into literal rng where clouds randomly determine your power, no skill at all
>>
>>12772791
>literal rng
The weather is not controlled by a random number generator.
>>
>>12765313
>game punishes for being a sheltered kid whose parents won't let you go outside
