>level punishes you if you try to just mindlessly run through it
why do modern games somehow miss this basic design? are peope now a days just retarded or do devs assume they are cause the devs are retarded?

Quality thread

the number of times i have tried a game and finished the first levels without even thinking is crazy as game should require you to use your brain
>>
>>12767506
>games ramp up in difficulty
Did you want a trophy or something for pointing out how basic things work or what
>>
>>12767508
this is the second level of this game and im pointingout modern games dont do this at all they sit at the same low difficulty until the last parts and then ramp it up so slightly you barely notice it i should never win and then realize i have no idea how i won it should never " just happen"
>>
>>12767515
You're right. Modern games have zero obstacles in the second level. Every second level in every modern game is void of enemies and pitfalls and can be completed by holding forward on the control stick. I feel so foolish now.
>>
>>12767523
you say it sarcastically but thats how it works now
>>
>>12767524
Yeah its not but ok
>>
>>12767526
it is though like i said i have beaten parts of games without having to make a single conscious decision and sometimes it almost feels like i play through entire games without ever really thinking they never force me to stop and think about the best strategy anymore and i wonder how that's meant to be fun

Running is OP in so many retro games, though. The devs spent all their time balancing the game around the assumption that you would advance at a "normal" pace, so choosing to run full speed nonstop literally breaks the difficulty.
>>
>>12767497
What? if you actually just hold right and keep running this level does exactly not punish you at all, they are not fast enough.
You won't get flowers and red coins, but in that way all levels of the game "punish" you for just running through them.
>>
>>12767497
I wonder if I could just get a slip of cardboard and write "you won" and sell it to OP?

This game is very easy to just run through. Getting every red coin has its moments. But overall the game is easy.

Super Mario Bros. 1 is designed for you to run through the level without stopping. Everything just falls into place for you.
>>
>>12767523
This is certainly the case in Metroid prime 4. You literally just walk in a straight line and win.

All the scrimblo chips in the world and they still couldn't get SNES to run something smoothly.
>2.68 mhz
Embarrassing.
>>
>>12767497
Those are called passivity traps. They encourage more active gameplay and less of passive screen staring and less of falling victim to diverting attention away from the game. Good stuff.

THREE TIMES-kun still obsessing over the super nes?

Your words, not mine.

but this is mindfully running through it
