I can't comprehend how a bunch of noob game devs could develop a game so fun and bring so much ideas to the genre.

OP here, wrong image, my bad

They were developers since the 80's. Hardly noobs.
>>
>>12767773
because noob devs nowadays have mount olympious in their horizon as they commit to their journey, the rare guys saw an empty horizon they saw fit to shape

So you know absolutely nothing and can't even name names, yet you have retarded zoomer opinions. What a shocking surprise.

God, you're such a dead generation. You're all going to starve to death when we genxers croak and you can't make your own meals.

Answer this: 9 is what per cent of 11?

i only remember Killer Instinct being shit.

The developers of Goldeneye were given a ton of freedom. The original game was supposed to be a Time Crisis clone where Bond was on rails but would stop and let the player aiming and take cover with the analog controller, but then someone had the idea of letting the players freely walk around their Time Crisis levels so they morphed it into a first-person shooter out of nowhere on their own initiative. Even the multiplayer was the work of a single dev with freetime on his hands, they just kept it because they had fun playing each other in deathmatch games during development.

What's funny is that if it were on the Shiturn, they would've just stuck with the on rails shit and Goldeneye would've never been a classic and it would've never inspired Half Life, but /vr/ isn't ready for the "lightgun games fucking suck and the only good one is House of the Dead Overkill" conversation.
>>
One of the advantages someone with no experience has (novice, whatever you want to call it) is that they dont know "what cant be done."
Orson Welles specifically talked about this and why Citizen Kane was so groundbreaking for cinema because he was doing all sorts of things all the experienced guys had written off as impossible or too much of a pain in the ass to do.

They weren't constrained by the conventions of the genre.
>>
>>12767815
they worked at Rare so they probably had lots of people to ask for advice who had made heaps of games I guess
>>
>>12767815
So you hand your son a speccy and then after Uni he's off coding Goldeneye? I want these guys to get book deals and a 24-episode BBC series directed by Martin Campbell.

The game released unbelievably late to be a huge success, there's a lot of mystery surrounding the development. Of course there are documentaries, but what's the best book on the development of the game?

pic unrelated

Romero and Carmack had made like a dozen commercial games by the time they made Doom.
>>
>>12769091
>>12767783
They also had done Wolfenstein, which plays like absolute shite, but it taught them plenty for Doom. There is no proto Goldeneye for the Rare devs to leech off of and learn from.
>>
>>12769110
Poor Rare devs, having absolutely no experience having made a total of zero games before goldeneye and zero fps to draw inspiration from

I'm nta but what caused you to be this asshurt? I'm very curious. Describe it in detail if you need to, since you're clearly some raped PCfag.

Who was that? Someone must remember his name.

doak gave a talk at Norwich university 10 years ago about goldeneye and he seemed to indicate they just decided as a group once they found that the N64 appeared to be much more powerful than they originally thought it might be, and also because they thought having to sell a gun peripheral with it would just doom the game commercially.

>They weren't constrained by the conventions of the genre.
This. Outsiders don't come in preloaded with a bunch of bullshit "rules" about how a game is supposed to be.
>>
>>12770546
So that's why we never got a light gun for N64?
In retrospect, I don't understand why Nintendo never made one. a modest Duck Hunt style game in 3D would have been a super obvious launch window kind of game.

They didn't.
>>
The special version of 1964 is really good
Smooth frame rate and all
>>
>>12767815
It was the same with Dark Forces or Half-Life. Most devs for those games hadn't made a game.

What I'm saying is that this was more common back then.

>>12768292
>can't even name names
If he did it would still be most of the fucking team LOL
>>
>>12772997
and with the expected levels of audiovisual polish, animation, etc. being lower it was much easier for people to get in and make games in general.

>>12772987
Was that the mouse injection emulator that worked perfectly but threw false positives for malwarebytes? I swear I lost it entirely because of a virus sweep autodetecting and removing it as malicious.

>>12771541
They also were just given a lot of time and little pressure since it was already expected by everyone to be of little importance due to coming out long after the movie (apparently caused by N64 delays more than dev problems, happy accident there).

It's amazing what white men can accomplish when they group together without DEI road blocks.
