Thoughts on this one?Never knew Golden Axe had an actual fighting game.
I only played the demo back then in Bootleg Sampler, I really enjoyed it. But I only seen people shitting it online ever since, I wonder what's the problem with the game.Even though Revenge of Death Adder has it beat in visuals, the actual concept art and character designs are much cooler in this game, I wish they got the art director for this game and made a proper Golden Axe 4 out of it.
>>12769616It's a pretty okay street fighter clone.>>12769631>I wonder what's the problem with the game.It was different so it was bad. And it wasn't a Revenge port.
>>12769616It's all right. I prefer the beatemups>>12769904> And it wasn't a Revenge portNailed it, but also fair because Revenge is so good.
>>12769616I tried playing it on my Saturn but I only have a 3D controller and the game flat out doesn't boot if it's connected. I've never heard of any other games not working because of the 3D controller. It boots normally without it but once plugged in it doesn't work.Checking ebay prices, the regular Saturn controllers are somehow more expensive now than when I bought the analog one some years back. Fugg.
>>12769631As a huge Golden Axe fan my biggest problem with it is the original characters should have been in the game but it's just some temu versions of them. Otherwise it's not too bad, but there's just nothing there for fans of the series to get excited about so why even bother playing it? This to me is on the level of Sega fucking up Sonic on the Saturn, having no new Streets of Rage, and cancelling the 2nd and 3rd parts of Shining Force III in the US. It was like they were set on destroying the franchises they'd built up to then.
>>12770149I only knew they weren't the original characters a few years ago when I read the manual. Them being the grandsons is kind of moot since they still looked very similar, and the original designs were pretty generic phantasy tropes. If any neuron ever passed through my infant brain on the subject I think I might have assumed it was in the past and a younger version of them. As a kid I did love Golden Axe, but I had no clue about the lore other than a vague generality through playing 1 & 2, and I certainly didn't even remember their names, so I just assumed they were the same characters. If you were invested in the actual story I guess sure, I can see how you might be feel cheated by it. By I honestly doubt most people even noticed or cared. It's sword guy, short beard guy with the horns and the asstits girl. The new designs honestly are very good, they quite appeal to me, and it's not like they just forget the entire world, most of the stuff is a variation on what came before, and even incorporating the bagged thieves into the combat to make me onions out and point.
>>12770142Not sure about his game but some games kind of zonk out if you press the switch from 3D to d-pad halfway. So try to connect it with the d-pad already switch before turning it on.
>>12770906I wish they had dedicated more time and effort to Golden Axe's lore because it's some of the most batshit and metal and interesting stuff in those games. I like that Gilius is basically babysitting Battler and Flare's children by like the fourth one and eventually sacrifices himself to put down Death Adder. And then also this guy shows up. GA: Myth is also a lot of fun and expands on this with Death Adder.
>>12770906The designs are really cool and vibrant and the sprites in game look great. If the gameplay is even half decent why didn't this become more popular? Just hyper saturation in the genre?
>>12770918The Golden Axe Returns expands the lore a bit
>>12769616It's really pretty but just sort of generic to play, it's not bad by any stretch but the Saturn had far better options.
