Did Metroid 64 ever exist?
>>12770164No and if it did you just know it would have been a downgrade from the snes predecessor just like Yoshi Story and Kirby 64, an ugly 2d platformer on the n64 with less content than Super Metroid
>>12770168With rendered sprites and blurry 3D backgrounds.
jet force gemini is the only metroid like on n64
No
>>12770184Ocarina of Time
>>12770193You must be Indian or just retarded
>>12770169The bad taste era lol
>>12770164Other M plays pretty much like how i expected Metroid 64 to play. 3D movement through corridors and a OoT inspired first person mode for certain weapons.
>>12770193I always thought Metroid 64 would have basically been Ocarina of Time with actual platforming. B would have been your gun, a would have been your spin jump. C buttons would control what weapons or beams your arm cannon fires. Grappling beam would be z targeting or 1st person to start a jump sequence far away. Most weapons would be z targeted with an option to fire from 1st person. You'd have your various over world areas that are places on planet zebes, deeper sectors work like dungeons and have some areas that connect the various dungeons.I really think that's the best they would have done, and I think that sounds kind of lame and clunky. It would have probably been more like Castlevania 64. I don't think they would have put a sidescroller Metroid on N64 even if someone at Nintendo had been working on it. I'm glad they didn't make one, I'm sure it would have sucked.
>>12770164No they spent the past 20 years trying to make Dread and repeatedly discovering the hardware couldn’t handle the emmi ai. It started on gba
>>12770363They spent 20 years on the worst part of the game?
>>12770381Skill issue
>>12770274You lack vision.
>>12770168Kirby 64 was better than Dreamland though.
>>12770274No, no. He has a point.>>12770381Yeah they did. SA-X was basically the prototype but without any of the impact despite how abusable its AI was.
>>12770363I doubt much of metroid dread 2021 goes back to the original metroid 5 concepts other than it being vaguely scary
>>12770164If it did, it died with Gunpei Yokoi. If you watch the Did You Know Gaming video about Retro Studios several old employees explain that the only reason they were given the Metroid series to make Prime was because Nintendo considered the series dead so it didn't matter if Retro fucked it up; and enough time had passed that it wouldn't feel disrespectful to touch one of Gunpei's babies. So by 1997 there probably wasn't a Metroid 64 anymore already.
>>12770274I farted and my butthole bleed a little bit. I'm a neet so I have no assurance. I feel fucking sad, Anon.
>>12770164Yes but also no. It existed in the send that Nintendo did try to develop technical concept demos in order to make a Metroid game for the N64 (this has been confirmed in interviews), but it never reached the point of getting greenlit for production so no there was never an actual "Metroid 64". Nintendo struggled with that one, which is why they gave it to another studio for the next console game and they started developing another 2D game for their upcoming handheld.
If castlevania64 could be done metroid probably could have been hacked together.
>>12770274You must be from Twitter
>>12770891And a joke compared to Super Star
>>12770285Sakamoto said that Metroid 64 never happened because he could not envision a way to control Samus looking at the N64 controller, so you might be more right than you think. Man refused to touch an analog stick until Dread.
>>12770164Google is free, you know!
>>12771241He had the joypad at the far left of the controller, was he stupid?
>>12771365>joypadKill yourself ESL-kun
>>12771334just cause something doesnt cost money doesnt mean its free
>>12771365Yea it sounds like a lame excuse to not make a game in at this point, one of their biggest franchises. So odd, they would make 3 Mario parties but refused to make a Metroid game. Could’ve been the n64s answer to Symphony of the Night, ironically I just bought a copy authentic of Castlevania 64 and I plan on trying it out on a crt w real hardware, then I’m going to try it out w the A3D on a summercart and see how it plays on a modern tv, which should stabilize the frame rate and see if it helps at all w the smoothness of the game. I’ve heard the game isn’t super smooth. Anyway, yeah lame excuse and they should’ve def made Metroid for the 64 since the thing needed more games (still my favorite console of all time tho).
>>12770164I'm pretty sure there's an interviewer somewhere confirming it never left the conceptual stage because they didn't know how to "handle it", whatever it was. They didn't know how to keep the classic upgrade style while making it 3D, so they gave up... Or something like that
>>12771990>one of their biggest franchisesBro we're talking about Metroid, be serious.
>>12772160I’m talking about at the time. Super Metroid did over a million in sales as a late era snes game and it was especially liked in Japan. The NES got one, the snes one did really well financially, it would have made complete sense to have Metroid on the 64 during this time.
>>12772590>as a late era SNES gameIt wasn’t that late, it was the middle of 1994. There are loads of first, second and third party titles released later that humiliate it in sales. The NES original was successful, Samus Returns even less so, and Super Metroid even less so again. Wasn’t a huge moneymaker.> it was especially liked in JapanYes, a region where the N64 was well documented to be an overwhelming success…
>>12772710I wouldn't call Metroid "one of their biggest franchises", but a million seller is hardly anything to scoff at either. Not every single franchise is going to be a juggernaut, it makes sense to have rounded out appeals in a games lineup. Not to mention, the N64 was doing the best in America, where Metroid was selling the most anyways. It's not an unreasonable expectation.
>>12770164Yes, but it was called Banjo-Tooie.
>>12772710Yes thanks for proving my point on why they should’ve released a Metroid game for the 64, because if they had maybe it would’ve sold a lot of systems in Japan seeing as it was pretty big there on the snes.
>>12770168>yoshi story>downgradestory was so much better than island it's not even funny.
>>12772723At the time it wasn’t one of their main franchises? Other than Mario Zelda and donkey kong games it was up there. Sold better than Kirby and Kirby got a 64 release.
>>12772745Never said they shouldn’t have, but it’s not particularly weird that there wasn’t one. There were other priorities.>>12772749>Sold better than Kirby1. It did not2. That’s HAL
>>12770164Yes. It was on emule as a rar archive and it introduced me to shawnie blonde
>>12770923>considered the series deadThats retarded. Fusion had come out only the year before.
I think after super metroid sakamoto became a bit of a storyfagThats why he went the direction he did in fusion. knowing they're not going to top super's overworld ever
>>12770164Devs at Nintendo have said they messed around with the idea but ultimately couldn't ever find a decent control scheme for Samus navigating that type of world with the N64 controller.
>>12772121It was the controls specifically I've seen cited.
>>12770164Yeah. Super Smash Bros.
>>12772747In what way?Story is one of the strangest games Nintendo have ever made
>>12772747You are literally the only individual i have ever seen claim this. The only credit i will give Story, is i enjoyed its visuals.
>>12772812Fusion and Prime were in simultaneous development and released on the same day, moron.
>>12770164>Did Metroid 64 ever exist?yah but them mariomoto said nah
