I always find it funny that people bring up the sword as a point in this game's favor because to me, it tells me they haven't played the game in like 20 years. Yeah you have a sword but it's kind ass, the game is balanced around throwing apples as the primary source of dealing damage to enemies and you can count on one hand the types of enemies that will cut up your apples so that they don't work. The sword is clearly from a game design perspective a backup weapon for when you run out of apples.

Probably right but most people talking about the sword are coming from the perspective of which game appealed to them more as kids. That's basically the argument, rule of cool vs more refined gameplay

>NOT a pirate set. NOT AT ALL.

An Aladdin game without a sword is like a Spiderman game without spider web. I don't care about what you find balanced.

THE GAME LOOKED LIKE THE MOVIE AND IT HAD A SWORD.
YOU CAN NOW SEETHE YOURSELVES TO SLEEP TENDIES

I had it on Game Gear. It’s apparently the same as the MD version. In fact, I still have it. It’s the only game gear game I haven’t lost to time.
I remember the jumps being messed up. It’s cinematic so you stop then jump with a jump wind-up animation, and I remember at least one jump that required near pixel perfect starting position. Am I wrong in my memory here? I haven’t had the game gear since the late 90s.
>>
>>12770352
The sword is a defensive weapon and you're meant to use it to parry and prevent damage.
>>
>>12770364
I had this toy as a kid
>>
>>12770435
The GG was some sort of obstacle course game, nothing similar to the Genesis game.
>>
I always found it disappointing that enemies just poofed into dust clouds upon defeated, it makes the sword feel, well, not like a sword, maybe a needle?
The game has great sprite animations, very good art direction, following the Disney design although some background graphics are just ok.
Level design is whatever, mid-tier western platformer. And the final boss is a complete joke, which is surprising isn't brought up more often, maybe because the people praising the game never finished it?
>>
>>12770352
Style over substance the game
>>
>>12770469
CRY HARDER THE GAME WAS GREAT
>>
>>12770456
>obstacle course game
That's only a couple of the levels, the rest of the game is a relatively slow paced platformer with Prince of Persia style ledge grabbing
>>
>>12770469
is this how you nintendo kids cope over getting the worst version of aladdin
>>
>>12770561
>but Nintendo!
There's better WESTERN platformers on Mega Drive, Aladdin is nothing more than OK.
>>
>>12770352
I've played both versions. The Genesis version is better.
>>
>>12770370
He doesn't use a sword in the movie though.

Mudslim brainwashing game that was created so that you'll be more okay with them as a grown-up.
>>
>>12770352
The sword was fun to have, but the real pull was the superior art style and animation.
>>
>>12770364
That would be accurate, if the Nintendo version actually had more refined gameplay. It was just bargain-bin platforming. The jumping felt more satisfying in the Genesis version.
>>
>>12770364
Man that looks so cheap for an officially licensed toy by Disney, the packaged makes it look like a bootleg, it should it come off in a box
>>
>>12770465
Yeah, they should be beheaded according to ancient, Muslim tradition, with Aladdin screaming "IN THE NAME OF ALLAH (PBUH) I SEND YOUR PUTRID SOUL FOR HIM TO JUDGE!".Or just some standard ISIS shit "Death to the West, Death to America, Allah is great"? With unusually detailed blood and gore. Perfect for a creepypasta.
>>
>>12770779
As someone whose played both versions, there was no brainwashing here. The Genesis port is miles better.
>>
>>12770815
We lost our right to privacy here in the west because faggots like you. "Oh my gah these terrorists are from the sand land, we need to surveil where every citizen goes all the time!"
In reality, they were never big enemies, we MADE them into big enemies. It was all about paying weapons manufacturers and sending the country into debt.
>>
>>12770465
> very good art direction, following the Disney design

The MD version literally had Disney animators working for the game and providing animations and backgrounds

>Level design is whatever, mid-tier western platformer

For me it's a middle ground between western and Japanese level design. To me it feels conscious that they wanted to make something with a global worldwide appeal. It may seem a little weird today because this type of western level design has been dead for 30+ years, but if you compare to even other western Disney platformers like The Jungle Book, the level design is very restrained and linear in Aladdin.
>>
>>12770352
SNES game is worse simply because it's too fucking easy. It's Little Mermaid on NES easy. It's challenge-less. The Genesis version isn't difficult either but I feel like I'm actually playing a video game with that one.

If the SNES had a sequel that ramped the challenge up a lot it would be the clear winner.
>>
Never understood the praise this game gets, it's just a mid tier western platformer of that era. I honesty prefer The Lion King to this.
>>
The absolute insanity of Sega fags who compare japanese Capgod with a janky euro-platformer

Aladdin Megadrive gameplay is awfull
>>
>>12770352
>I always find it funny that I'm typing up a paragraph of coping.
>>
>>12771245
It's different.
Both are good in their way.
You should always play both.
>>
>>12770465
Well what would you have done in an Aladdin game? Animated amputation (even if no blood)? The only thing I can think of would be to clearly play it for laughter, with enemies struck clearly lying down and holding a RIP sign and then becoming intangible or sth like that.
>>
>>12771245
>Capgod

tb h, the only Disney Capcom game of the 16-bit era that was really good was Goof Troop. Most of their output (the three Mickey Mouse games, Bonkers, Aladdin) were all pretty mediocre. Not Bubsy bad but much closer in quality to something like Aero the Acrobat.
>>
>>12771386
A mid Capcom game is still miles better than euro-platformer jank
>>
>>12771395
it's okay
show me on the doll where the euros touched you
>>
>>12771371
NTA but they could have done the Mario-esque "enemies flies off or is sent down the bottom of the screen". It's true that a poof of smoke make them feel untangible, unsatisfying.

>Aladdin on the SNES is fucking putrid puked-up dogshit.
You're just being as hyperbolic as the people you hate
(And Capcom still decidedly made better games than David Perry)
>>

Sure, but that list of games does not include Aladdin on the SNES, lmao.
>>
>>12771701
Truth. Street Fighter II and Mega Man X >>>>>>>>>> Earthworm Jim >>>>>>>>> Capcom Aladdin

Capcom had some great SNES gems, but Aladdin was poo.
>>
>>12770793
Lol well it was like the early 90s, packaging wasn't always fancy because we didn't have the plague of mamchild shoplifters raiding toy aisles we do today, and even major IP toys themselves were still sold at price points of like 5-10 dollars
>>
>>12771707
I disagree, Capcom Aladdin has great controls, tight level design with lots of well thought out obstacles, and also the emphasis on acrobatic action makes more sense for Aladdin.
Kicking a guard in the face while swinging decidedly feels more like the movie than popping dust sacks with a faux sword.
It's really hard to sell the idea that Virgin made better games than Capcom. The good sprite animation is strenght, not gameplay or design.

Tarzan had a shotgun at the end of the movie, should he have it at the start of his game?
Shit man, is there a vidya where you're swinging on vines/tethers while shooting shit? Sounds pretty bitching.

Because Tarzan already has a weapon in his movie tie-in game, his knife/spear.

Sometimes they did. Sometimes they didn't. Capcom got lazy a lot. Look at those god awful Marvel platformers they did.

Yep Tarzan did had a shotgun at the end of the movie, and if he had a shotgun on the boxart, manual cover, and on the cart, as well as other merch at the time, then I'd expect him to have one in-game too.

The sword sucks. There's a massic delay when you press the button because the game is more concerned about having nice animation than it is about having responsive controls.

Also the Megadrive version is missing the parachute which is an infinitely superior accessory/item. And more importantly, it's really fucking FUN. And it works in tandem with the level design, making it more interesting to traverse the world, and discover secrets etc.

I'm not the one who's been stuck for two decades making cope threads about a children's video game adaptation of a children's movie because I got the lame version instead of the RAD Genesis game.

Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues has vines you can use, pretty sure none swing though. Best I can offer.

it's thoroughly mediocre. And I say that as someone who still owns my original boxed copy of the game from 1993. I liked it when I was 11 but when I revisited it again as an adult I couldn't stand it.
>>
>>12770547
No, it was a 3-part game. 1/3 was auto-runner, 1/3 was shmup-style, 1/3 was Prince of Persia-esque platforming. Then there was a single boss fight at the end.
