nothing against Lucasarts, they're just really popular and i don't see non-lucasarts games get discussed a lot.

just finished pic related after nearly 30 years. great game, great humor, beautiful graphics/music. a few moon logic puzzles. don't like the UI. game suffers greatly from "find the single magic pixel to click on". also can't believe they included a south park reference. thinking about trying out zork nemesis next.

Not OP, but I've only played through the first one with a walkthrough because I got stuck partway through and wanted to finish. They're not really that good, just difficult. The first one is probably one of the few text adventure games you can lose due to bad RNG. And the 2nd or 3rd one is somewhat infamous for having that one puzzle that becomes unsolvable after you've performed X turns, making sure no one was going to solve it on their first playthrough. If you don't realize time is progressing in-game with every turn you take, you'll never figure out where you're going wrong. You might not even realize the thing you need to progress is now forever gone.
Honestly, Infocom made some much better text adventures that are far more enjoyable to play than the Zork series, the Zork series just had the old-school appeal in the 80's since it was a port of a popular 70's mainframe text adventure broken up into three parts. Their Sherlock Holmes text adventure game deserves far more praise than the Zork games. It had a lot of the same features of the Zork games, but a bit more polish and even a built-in hint system if you're really stuck hard and need a push in the right direction.

>have you played the text adventure zork games ?
nope. don't really have any interest for text-only games. i like the zork universe but not that much. video games are supposed to be a multimedia experience.
>>
>have to read 100 fucking pages of pointless exposition at the start of the game
Myst was trash. Riven is the wholly better game

They are way to slow and have way too much guesswork command wise. You are not a genius for playing text adventure games, you are a retard too stupid to read a good book instead.

Unironically old text adventures are lacking a lot of text because of floppy disk limitations

True. It was even worse on tape.
48k don't allow for many characters, moreso when they also have to store graphics & code.

"Important" and "good" can be different.
and "important" and "fun" are different quite often.

If a video game is "important" in regards to the development of video games as a medium, then by a matter of deduction, it is also "good" and "fun".
