Another classic japanese retro IP is getting a modern streaming "anime" by westerners.
This time it's a Family Guy style Golden Axe series

Golden Axe is retro

If you're actually upset about some Netflix slop of the week I would encourage you to get better hobbies. Maybe read a book

The only good thing that will come of this is a surge in Tyris Flare porn.

Books get more modern slop adaptations than retro games

If it's not a traditional anime, what's the point? Just another westslop that exists solely as a medium to deliver nigroids and LGBT into your living room.

Western slop isn't anime

Not when she looks like this lol.
There's practically no fan fair for this anyway aside from Twitter bots. All the YT comments skew negative. There isn't even any outrage bait on YouTube like with say Velma. Everyone is exasperated with this irony-poisoned style of "adult" "animated" "comedy" to even hatewatch anymore. This show is dead on arrival

He's right though. The Netflix Castlevania series hasn't ruined Castlevania games, and you don't have to watch it. It exists, but it's not like people care about it even in Castlevania communities much.

>anything modern
All day. Video games and general entertainment could end tomorrow and we'd have 50ish years of nearly infinite entertainment to comb through. But in the end, it's still their utter fucking inability to make anything worth a shit whatsoever in a frighteningly consistent manner in a way that's just worse than the 80s similar garbage that completely changed the content
It's just massive piles of shit after massive piles of shit where these idiots consistently fails upwards and may one day start legitimately affecting the little left coming out that's actually cool. Which might end up happening considering how controlled the Internet is slowly starting to be
>>

Would rather it got the Fire and Ice treatment but anything would be better than what they are actually putting out. What gets me is that Golden Axe(along with other beloved series that get shit out) should be a lay up.

Netflix really is the slop factories. They are almost experts in doing anything BUT making something visually interesting. It's just a giant jobs program for millennials, and no one cares, no one takes it seriously. They "job it up" so to speak. They show up for a job, make it, release it, then never think of it again.

yes, it's sad that westerners are buying cheap Japanese IPs, when they could and should get something more respectful.

Irony, flipping concepts against expectations, and not taking things seriously was initally an original bold take. They were initially reacting to a cutlure that took itself seriously, and thus took its media seriously, where stories go in one direction. That became predictable and cliceh, and thus ripe for mocking.

...but this is now predictable and cliche. I can write entire episodes of this without having seen it. I know all the jokes, all the beats. It's slop. The sloppiest of slop. I'm sick of it.

I hope for everyone's sake they do not have a subscription to Netflix.
>>
>>12772243
>They were initially reacting to a cutlure that took itself seriously, and thus took its media seriously, where stories go in one direction
And this is the only dynamic that works. Playing it straight should always be standard, with ironic works being outliers. The moment this is reversed, we end up with arguments, because sincerity is extinguished. And it's also just shit.
>>
>>12772243
Planescape Torment did almost all of these and it's considered a masterpiece

You mean the way stories have generally been told for the last 4000 years? If you don't take your stories seriously, why the fuck should I be invested in the outcome?

Like most shit, you can trace it back to the 60s and 70s with underground media, like comics. These were seen as the cool guys, and the mainstream as squares. This movement builds momentum in the 80s and becomes what the Gen-X wants to emulate. Gen-X starts to gain creative power as writers in the late 80s and early 90s. You get shows like The Simpsons.*

Groening is a boomer, and season 1 was kind of sincere. After the Gen-X writers took over, the show became mostly irony and sarcasm. Family Guy and South Park then took this forward and solidified what an "adult cartoon" is.

But then it became the default. It became the mainstream. But it was only something that was *reacting* to the mainstream. Without what it is initially reacting to, what meaning does it have?

So it's become a new set of strict formula and cliches, completely predictable, and without the mainstream it was initially mocking. For instance, even the Simpsons was reacting to 80s squeaky clean family sitcoms.

For Golden Axe Netflix series? You'd have to go back and watch a series of sword and Sandal films to even get what the hell they're making fun of. There's no context for this.

I'm beyond sick of it. I have pretty much cut off "adult cartoons" since 2010.
>>
>>12772221
No, Konami had already done that without any help from the Netflix show.

>But then it became the default. It became the mainstream. But it was only something that was *reacting* to the mainstream. Without what it is initially reacting to, what meaning does it have?
Good writing. Interesting characters and plots. It's own meaning beyond reacting. I disagree that something like The Simpsons was *only* reacting to things. There was a lot of substance to the show and other shows like it beyond that layer.
>>
>>12772290
>“Evil cannot create; only ruin what good forces make.”
Sick of this quote, partially because the people repeating it are so often evil people who don't create anything of value.

>>
>>12772029

It doesn't, but the quote itself is retarded too. Evil creates art all the time. Sometimes even good art. Hell, Roman Polanski directed a lot of great movies.
>>
>>12772327

Who the fuck is this for?

Nobody under 40 knows what a Golden Axe is. It is not a recognizable IP.

It doesn't look like a Saturday Morning cartoon, it looks like a direct to Netflix She-Ra or Gremlins modern thing.

I beat both Golden Axe arcade games and I don't give the slightest fuck. Is it just a thing to put on Netflix because of screen junkies? Random content to fill the grid?
>>
>>12772426
>women centaur

>>
>>12772426
its because dungeon meshi was popular and they want to mine IP for something to leech off of the popularity. Of course its terrible because no one involved gave a shit and it was made as cheaply as possible to cash in on something else thats popular

I sort of agree. Mostly old fags will remember but it is has been on just about every Sega Greatest Hit compilation over the years so I'm sure it has some name recognition. If it was done right with swords, blood, tits, etc boys of all ages would enjoy and become fans. Doesn't look like that is going to happen tho.

>Random content to fill the grid?

It's mostly this. Netflix needs to produce a huge amount of new content for business reasons. Very few people really give a shit. They just look around for properites that are both cheap enough to adapt but also have SOME notability. The fact we're having this thread is proof of this. If they adapted some 1920s French novel we wouldn't have this therad.

No one making this cares. No one at Netflix cares. The Japanese publisher that gave them the rights do not care. Likewise we should not care.

It's really obvious to see if a series has care put into it verus just algo slop.
>>
>>12772490
>No one should care
Fuck off
This is more and more and again and again utter fucking sloppification of content
Any of that cash could've went to cool Newgrounds animator of yore, which I'm still puzzled barely any of them ever got a show
Sloppification of content for a shitty business model that's not too functional ends up highly enshittifying culture as a whole. You should be highly mad about that
>>
>that art

The US really did stop producing decent artists after a certain point.
