Kinda related, but I've been going down the WRPG rabbit hole and am on Dragon Age Origins (not /vr/ but just at the tail end of the era that I'll play) now after beating a couple other old ones... bros... what happened? How did we lose so much? From Baldur's Gate all the way up till around the early 7th gen WRPG's, we had something super special. Every game I play I'm instantly hooked and drawn into the world and character building. The dungeon crawling. The characters. WRPG's were so, so neat, and it's all just gone now. On one hand, it's okay cuz I still have so many more to play (plan on going to the KotOR games after this), on the other, it's just sad to see such a... what would it be... art form? Just lost. None of the newer games people praise look all that interesting to me, nor do they scratch the tactical itch and level of story telling some of these older games had. The modern story telling bleeds through far too much on anything after around the 2010 point.
