I heard this game is too easy. Do you reckon Crazy Mode would be good for a first-time playthrough if you love RE1 Chris mode and Ninja Gaiden Black?
>>
I loved the game on normal and then when I tried the higher difficulty I dropped it after 30 mins because it's just "let's multiply the damage value enemies do by X"

Play the game the way it was designed to be played (normal). if it's too easy then you should breeze through it in a few hours and maybe then you can try a harder mode.
>>
>>12775316
Isn't that basically the difficulty of NESvania?
>>
>>12775326
In the NES games you die in 4 or 5 hits, iirc in Lament's harder difficulty you can die in 2 even from basic enemies at the start of the game
>>
>>12775327
Upgrading your HP should deal with that
>>

You should play it on normal first. Crazy mode is very difficult. There is a buff in the sewers above the pendulum blades you'll need.
>>
Unlike what >>12775316 said, Crazy mode is not just "enemies deal more damage", but also there's more of them. Stronger enemies that only appear a few times in original mode will become regular enemies in Crazy.
I think it's worth it, I didn't find it unfair, and makes traversing the levels more risky. I definitely had more fun with hard mode and would recommend.
Also, CV1's hard mode is kind of disappointing, starting from level 4 or 5 it's exactly the same difficulty as normal mode

Yeah it replaced some of the weak enemies entirely with stronger ones with tougher patterns. Also some bosses had new patterns, the Doppelganger boss you had to fight two of them at once and so on. It was enjoyable and pretty well balanced compared to the engine sequel Curse of Darkness because there were no level-ups so everything could be tightly number balanced.

Sounds cool, I'll play Crazy Mode then

I feel like it’s a hugely influential game, like *Shinobi*, but the controls are terrible. I even think the even clunkier N64 games are better than this one because, at least in those, they tried to emulate 2D CV physics, which makes for interesting controls. But this game plays with those annoying tank controls. Combat is repetitive, and the level design had potential if they’d gone all in on the random approach. I think the other PS2 CV game is much better. The controls are better, the combat is better (quality > quantity), and the gameplay loop with the steal mechanic is way more fun than what this game was trying to do. I feel like with a lot of PS2 games, the controls are just bad in most of them. For every God Hand, GOW, and NG04, you had shit like this game.

>tank controls
huh?
>>
>>12776976
Yeah, the game has tank controls
>>
>>12776990
Not the version I played. When I press left or right, Leon walks in those directions, if I press down, he comes walking towards the camera. He doesn't rotate in place like tank control games.
>>
>>12776990
Can you supply video evidence?
>>
>>12776990
No it doesn't, it has the equivalent of Silent Hill's "2D" control scheme. The only control jank is some of the fixed camera angles in some areas.
>>
Everybody talks about Lament ripping off DMC, but nobody talks DMC3 ripping off Lament's Succubus boss fight.
>>
>>12777345
I'm gonna come out and say it: The Lament succubus is hotter than the Symphony one. SotN succubus looks like a cheap whore, LoI succubus has some elegance and class. Superior sex demon.
>>
This game is garbage i dont understand why people hate Castlevania 64 but never talk about how awful PS2 games are
>>
>>12777410
The difference is that the PS2 games were games with no real target audiance except 'maybe we'll get a portion of DMC fans', so of course people talk about them less even to this day, the games still suffer from being made for this vaccuum and even most Castlevania fans are like "oh yeah, those games existed".

On the other hand the N64 games were still made for the American Castlevania fans. They were the main game in the series (not SotN), designed for Nintendo console (where the main Castlevania games had always been) and they were an attempt to tranpose classic CV gameplay in 3D for the N64. Fans acknowledged that, but didn't like it as much as the old games.

The N64 games represent the point where the series lost its old fans.
The GBA games are where the series found its new fans.
Lament is kind of in between, the series trying to find a new audiance but failing to find those players because it came off as "DMC-lite" to most.

For the record I like both PS2 games
