Anybody else feel that of all things in retro gaming you have to buy that cables are the biggest rip off in this hobby?
>>12776019Yes 100% I am a fucking sucker and I bought that cable (and it looks fucking amazing) but god damn 100 dollarydoos for a cable yeesh.
>>12776019YPbPr wasn't the developers' vision. Component, S-Video, or RF. That's all you should ever need for retro gaming. Maybe Scart if you're a Europoor.
>>12776019Probably second to 4K monitors if you want CRT visuals. I intend to get one anyway but I fear that the nits may not be that much higher than my current 1080p. 1K nits are out of my budget.
they probably get away with it because there is no chinese manufacturing process that can rapidly undercut it
>>12776197>second to 4K monitors if you want CRT visualsHow about, you know, getting an actual CRT?
>>12776019dun buy from any shop called "retro"?that said i tried looking for a VGA to Composite converter ages ago,IRL in a generic electronicas store, and it cost about 50 bucks, made in commie china. that's bullcrap
>>12776178YPbPr is component you mean composite.
>>12776178>Component is too good but RGB is fine but only for certain people
>>12776019Have to? NoPic rel is a specialty cable with active circuitry. Made in low volumes so of course it's pricy.
>>12776207My purpose is emulation. I lack the space for loads of consoles plus the CRT. Most I can manage beyond that are controllers, and I don't know if the Retro-Bit ones for Genesis and Saturn are reputable.
>>12776178YPbPr and S-video are both component.
>>12776019>you have toYou don't. Just use RF or composite
>>12776402IMO 4K is a meme unless you want a good looking slot/shadow mask at very low TVL settings. High nits/HDR and high refresh rates are more important.
>>12776178>YPbPr wasn't the developers' vision.I don't give a shit about that unless a game is specifically designed to exploit composite blending.>Maybe Scart if you're a Europoor.SCART is just a connector standard that can carry different types of signals including composite and RGB.>>12776408Lolno. S-video is a split signal since it has separate chroma and luma, but no one refers to it as "component". YPbPr is component.
>>12776019>buying cables with a transcoder built inactual retard, buy that shit once and just buy cheap native cables.
>>12776503Native Genesis YPbPr cables don't exist. Genesis games rely heavily on blending effects though, so I'd argue composite is a better choice for it unless you're playing on a modern display.
>>12776518>reading comprehension
>>12776457Good thing the 4K I aim to get next month (at the latest) has 120Hz. Just know that I don't want to go drastically overbudget. 350 nits must be somewhat better than 250 nits. HDR as well but reviews say its rather basic.
>>12776503why only once
>>12776716Why would you buy a transcoder every time you buy new cables, instead of buying it one transcoder and just buying passive cables?
>>12776019that cable actually works though, I own one, stopped using it and went back to composite because the image was so crisp I might as well had been emulating
>>12776019Yes. All you ever need is composite. MAYBE S-Video if you're feeling fancy. L of these consoles literally shipped with composite cables. Hell, some of them shipped with RF.
>>12776503This is what bugs me about these. It's like buying a separate set of speakers for each console. Just buy one and use it with all of them.
>>12776501>S-video is a split signalThat is literally the definition of component
>>12776178You can get composite through component if you just plug in the green cable and the red and white for audio
>>12776019I backed their kickstarter for the cables. I hoped they would become a successful business since it was such a small hobby I enjoyed because I could never afford the modern games, reliant on the cheap games of old that were still great. The cables did allow for the old systems to be connected in the high definition era.
>>12776729You don't, their Genesis cables have passive adapters so they can be used on several other systems. I use mine to play my PS1, but I have the Saturn adapter for them too. The only system that needed it's own cables was the SNES.
