Is Halo CE a flawless game? Great pacing, encounter design, every weapon is viable on Legendary, soundtrack, voice cast, Covenant are super fun to fight, Assault on the Control Room is peak, the second half of the campaign and the four way war aspect between the humans, covenant, flood, and sentinels is top tier kino, the warthog run finale.
I wouldn't call it flawless by any measure, but it's well-paced and the plot stands out as among the best in any FPS. No in-game time waster lore dumping, just read the books if you want more backstory, but none of that is required to enjoy the game and the plot as it's presented. The worst offense is the backtracking levels, primarily Two Betrayals. I'm aware the game was rushed toward the end of development, so it's a little more forgivable. It's a really solid example of an 8/10 game, IMO. Fun, intriguing story, great enemy AI, interesting levels to explore, but the copy-pasted levels are indicative of dev crunch for sure. It's aesthetics are unmatched to this day. There isn't much in any medium that evokes the alien feeling of Halo's blue-hued brushed metal and scenic evergreen landscapes.
